In particular, I noticed one trick not being used in this run. The one right before Mother Brain where you glitch through a wall and avoid having to destroy all the obstacles leading up to her. Was it faster this way? I also notice you don't stand on the frozen projectile and pummel Mother Brain with missiles from there. If you're able to fire at the same rate this way but have the added advantage of not just standing there, I guess this is better. Is that correct?

Nice. Any idea how feasible it would be to expand on the recording support to allow for the sort of stuff we do on this site?

Okay, well, that answers my question, I guess :p I suppose I can always make an unofficial TAS and record an AVI of it. Maybe if people can see a really cool TAS of a commodore game it might encourage someone to work on a rerecording C64 emulator.

Just wondering if it's possible to use DOSbox to run, say, a commodore 64 emulator for TAS purposes. If so, what would be needed? Would the emulator and the rom need to be in the same directory? For playback, a person watching would obviously require the exact same version of the C64 emulator as well as the dosbox emulator. Would the C64 emulator have to have the exact same configuration? It seems grossly complicated to do this, but it's possible, right?

Thanks. It all makes sense to me now. One of those nagging life mysteries solved. Now if I can only figure out what the writers of SuperFriends were thinking when they wrote any single episode.

hey... where's that Game Genie run? Better... Where's the Phantom Zone?????
I assume because it was completely and entirely removed that someone really doesn't want that video on here, so I won't post it. If you really want it, I can send you a PM.

I uploaded a submission 1337 (A game genie speedrun :p) but it was removed, because it was either offensive or just too stupid to even be mentioned on the site. Oh well. Wasn't meant to be taken seriously, obviously. Was hoping to just cancel the submission so it'd end up in gruefood, but instead it was completely banished into the phantom zone. No hard feelings I hope.

It seems like I've had to more or less start over at the beginning again. Soldiers with guns take off 2 points of damage when they shoot you and I found a way to avoid getting hit by one right at the start, while sacrificing only 1 frame. This saves 16 frames from having to switch characters twice later on. At least I now know exactly what points I can take damage and where, and how many gas canisters I can use. I'm convinced that once I actually do beat the first mission, it will be as optimal as I can possibly reason. Someone would need to discover some pretty wacky glitches to beat my time.

Hmm. It occurred to me that since it takes 8 frames to switch from Grant to Nick, take the appropriate damage, and switch back, it may be faster to avoid damage altogether. I only need to avoid getting hit three times, as a health kit becomes available soon afterwards. And since the molotov takes 50% of my health I'll need to switch anyway. I'm going to test this a bit and see what I can come up with. Edit: Okay, there are definitely a few places where I can save time. Right at the beginning, the first time I take damage, I can just punch the guy and that would take about three frames or so to do. I'll need to find the three places where I can avoid damage the most quickly.

Okay, my curiousity has finally gotten the best of me. Please tell me what the context of that Bisqwit quote is.

I once thought about doing Anticipation for NES as the lamest run. But I keep getting too lazy to do it. For those who haven't played it (shame on you), it's like pictionary, except the AI starts to draw the picture and you hit a button to answer when you know what it is. With a TAS, it would seem like the player is telling the NES what to draw.
The trick would be to luck manipulate the AI into picking the shortest possible words.

Here's a WIP. I'm back in the middle of the first mission. http://hyena.kiwibonga.com/Heisanevilgenius-MissionImpossible.fcm As you might have noticed I made some changes. Changing to Nick and using the disguise is no longer done. Grant just moves faster. I probably should have done that from the beginning. As a result, Grant loses more energy earlier and I'm forced to switch characters every time he'd lose damage. Each time I switch characters it takes 8 frames, but overall I'm sure I gain more from sticking with Grant and his faster movement. I also have one more gas grenades at my disposal, which I think will pay off. I've saved 276 frames so far from the previous run.

I started work on this again. The frustrating point where I stopped was one of those big molotov throwing guys in the first mission. He blocks the way to a passage and he takes two hits to kill. The fast punch trick works, but he seems to have a long invulnerability period after getting hit so I couldn't get him with a quick one-two. I did accidentally discover a way to slip right past him but it has to be absolutely frame perfect, and it only happens under very specific circumstances. It took me a long time to figure out the minimal way to get past him. Essentially, his collision box seems to change when he switches to his attack animation, meaning that in order for me to slip past him, I need to allow him to attack me (which means taking 50% of my health in damage.) I seem to have gotten the hang of it, so work commences I guess.

http://hyena.kiwibonga.com/Aerofght.smv Okay, I found a way to kill all those massive amounts of enemy jets with the slow plane. The answer: Kill myself so that it spawns a weapon powerup, which gives me spreadfire. I had to pick a very very specific moment to do so, because the death/respawn sequence takes a while and any other place I would have missed some enemies.

Nitsuja, please. If you have any feelings at all... if you have any conscience... please do not ask me to offer up my firstborn. After watching this run, I would be honour-bound to comply. Even though I'm unmarried and have no children, I would have to find a way. For those who haven't seen it, this may salivate you enough to want to see it: Some parts are so amazing that other parts in the run seem incredibly boring in comparrison. The incredibly boring parts are still great by TAS standards. The boring parts alone would warrant my yes vote. Instead, however, I spent the boring parts trying to come up with what I could possibly say about this masterpiece. This is the best I can come up with and it's sorely insufficient. Maybe that's because the boring parts were constantly interrupted by sheer awesomeness. If and when I do get married one day, I will have to in all honestly ask my bride-to-be beforehand if she wouldn't rather marry Nitsuja instead. If I don't, the unasked question may haunt me. (P.S. Voted Meh)

That's what I did too, I gave it right before the first one touched the floor (and let the rest die), and did the same for level 10 ...
Oh, sorry. I didn't click the video. I thought it was a different one that was linked to in another thread, which was just the first three levels. Well, I guess I can pretty much scrap my old Lemmings project. Every idea I had that I thought was original was already taken. (I did the music thing too but not as well.)

I attempted a run of Lemmings way back and I found a trick that Acclm apparently didn't. In the second level, there's an unneeded delay when you give a lemming an umbrella as they halt in midair. If you hover over the lemming with the umbrella selected and click at the last possible frame, they simply land and continue walking with no drop delay.

I've noticed from the movie "Life is Beautiful" it translated an Italian riddle into English where both seemed to use the same double meaning: Second, used as a word meaning one sixtieth of a minute, and also meaning after first. Not only did they have the same meanings, in fact, but also phrasing. Both languages seemed to use the term "seconds" for getting another helping of food.

I voted meh for your previous movie, but this one easily deserves a yes. Even though the last level is tedious, you still pulled off some nice stunts in the first four levels that made this well worth watching. Good job. :D

I love the card glitch in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. The glitched run of that dropped my jaw. First you skip the entire game, then you kill Dracula during a cutscene and gain over a dozen levels immediately.

I know what I would like: Instant luck manipulator. Tell the program what you want to manipulate and it instantly tells you what you need to do it. Hooray for wishful thinking.

Ugh. Had a setback... my latest backup was deleted somehow. However, I still have my non-optimal run to use as a guideline. I just need to re-optimize. It's probably just as well, since I wasn't so sure that some parts at the beginning were completely optimal. Edit: By the way, I determined that Baxter's SRAM trick only saves 40 frames in picking level 20 and high speed, so in order to beat his time I need to finish within 40 frames of his movie.
