The damage of each is known. It's just a matter of putting it all together in a way that's fast :]
(the boss energy address is 00f6. I had posted it perviously in the thread)
C0DE RED, I will watch the new WIPs as soon as I can, looking forward to the polishing you've been doing.

Well ok, Level 4 laser does 8 damage, same as a level 4 barehanded attack (knee drop). Level 4 laser uses 3 bullets.
Minibosses in Area F:
1) 70 HP
2) 60 HP
3) 70 HP
4) 90 HP
Then Cobra commander with 168 HP
Which means if you want to kill all 4 minibosses with only the laser you will need 111 ammo above what you have for Cobra Commander. Minus 3 for every knee drop or 8 punches you do.
So 99 ammo if you do your finishing move as a knee drop on each boss.
I didn't look at how much ammo a level 3 gun uses because I think it's worthless either way.

Yes, level 3 gun does 3 damage per shot if all bullets hit, same as a kick. I will look at what a level 4 laser does when I have a chance, since I forget exactly.
The rate of fire of the laser is very high, though. And punch/ducking is also faster than shooting the gun for enemies that aren't knocked back anyway, and is better for conserving ammo. so level 3 gun is probably not too useful overall. MAYBE for bosses with knockback but I would think laser would be the better choice there.
When I have a chance I will also look at the HPs of all the bosses for Area D and on so we can get an estimate on how much ammo you'd need.

Yeah, you're right. There are too many guns for kicks to be the main strategy later on. But even so, you're using laser against most bosses, right? There might be time for 1 kick in between shots, since the gun has to cool down and everything. I haven't really taken a close look at boss invulnerability periods, but I know some weird stuff happens if you're switching from guns to barehand so maybe kicks aren't used at all after Area D... Anyway, you should be okay with punches in the worst case :)
I watched your new wip, without looking too closely at exact framecounts, it looks like you're on the right track. I wasn't too sure about the boss in Area A at first but after watching a couple of times it looks ok. Keep up the good work.

Your link doesn't work. I'd love to see your progress though!
Level 2 handgun will be very useful, yes. If you can get extra POWs without too much waiting of course.

Okay, so I watched your new WIP c0de red, and the level of play in this new WIP is a lot better. I don't know if you've worked on it more or if you're still working on boss strategies but I have 2 things to show you:
knockback boss strategy with kicks (~100 frames faster than your newest WIP):
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1941691185/boss%20strategy.fm2
^I made a few mistakes here but it's for demonstration purposes so hopefully it gives you a better idea of what I've been trying to say about bosses.
example of how barehand level 4 falling is faster than normal falling (~10 frames faster than your newest WIP):
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/437025221/falling.fm2
Otherwise, the level of play is very high, good work! I know your next version will be worth submitting to the site proper.
If you have problems with dehacked's microstorage let me know and I will reupload the files.

Alright, I watched your movie. The play is pretty good, though towards the end it got a bit sloppy. You should choose better POWs for your laser. ALSO, level 4 barehand attack makes you fall faster than just normal falling so you should get it by the time you're rescuing hostages.
here's what I was talking about with using kicks:
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/441660047/route1.fm2
It is your new run of run of route 1 with a different boss strategy at the end, ~26 frames faster. It could be even faster if the gun is used, I didn't use it at all. (also I didn't bother optimize the collection of the item at all).
The kick strategy works on every boss, even the ones that get knocked back because you can walk forward the whole time. I'll do a demo of the next boss later if you need.
When you get the laser, then you should focus on laser shots and use kicks when you have to wait to shoot in stead of punches :)
Level 4 barehand does about twice the amount as the kick, so use it for the last hit to save one attack.
Let me know if you have problem with mictrostorage I'll reup the file somewhere else.

Ahhh of all times for my PC to be broken. I'd love to watch the run and maybe point some stuff out, but that can't happen right now. Any chance of an encode, anyone?
edit: based on the filename of the wip of mine you posted as an .fm2 you're probably using the old boss strategy (which is slower). Kicking is better for bosses than punching.

I think having a good run on the site is a good reason to switch to the J rom.
(I think having a better run on the site down the road that I can read is a good reason to switch back.)
I happen to think this is a good run. Well, what I saw of it anyway. Nicovideo blew up about half way through for me too. I'm waiting for one of the goodly people here to upload an encode somewhere before dropping my vote in, but unless play really drops off in the second half, I'm voting yes.

After only a few tests with the powerpak on my NES, the stage clear happened a few times, the game reset a few times, the group of jumping enemies appeared and etc. If I had a camera I'd take some pictures but it's not really necessary. This more or less confirms OldPPU is correct.
I'll continue messing around with the rom in case something unexpected happens, but I've seen the stage clear happen 4 times or so thus far.

I own a powerpak and will gladly test... but a lot of this stuff just goes right over my head so I'm not sure exactly what I'm testing. Just whether or not the rom would boot/run on an NES?

I guess the one snag is that afaik you can only get a wall tome from Mysidia and I think it costs 5000 gold. I guess you would have to go down there sometime before fighting the red soul.
Warp can be bought from Salamand or Mysidia, but you can also get Toad from Captains, wandering around Fynn.
The other spells can't be gotten until later, I think the next opportunity is in the Coliseum from Sorcerers.
I was thinking about this, if you get one character poisoned at some point, someone would always be low on HP before a battle starts, so cure spell is always useful. Does the battle skip also work with ethers? If not, it still allows for a lot more skipping than just filling up on potion. It would be more expensive than just using potions, but might be a good idea later on when the dungeons get longer.
Edit:
Forced fights:
-Land turtle: Exit spell treasure MIAB (maybe can skip it, might be useful)
Kill with Minwu's exit spell or Ice or Swap
maybe manipulate Mythril Shield drop
-Sergeant: Guards mythril
Kill with Minwu's exit spell or Swap
maybe manipulate Mythril (Helm/Axe/Armor/Bow) drop
-Adamantoise: guards goddess bell
Kill with SouthWind from B3 or Exit
maybe manipulate Diamond Shield drop
-Borghen: after adamantoise
Kill with Exit, or maybe punching with a third character
manipulate hi-potion drop
-Red Soul: guards Egil's Torch
Kill with wall and warp/toad
-Pirates x8: get the ship
not too sure. 45 hp each
-Chimera x3-4: guards pool of life
not too sure. Casts blaze (ice shields?)
-Lamia Queen: Fake Hylda
Kill with wall and warp/toad
Drops protect ring, gold hairpin, ribbon
-Behemoth: Coliseum
Kill with wall and warp/toad
-Gottos: Retake Phyn
Kill with wall and warp/toad
-Gigan Rhino x1-4?: Guards Black mask
Kill with wall and warp/toad
-Barrel Worm: Inside Leviathan
Kill with wall and warp/toad
-Fire Gigas: Mysidian Tower
Kill with wall and warp/toad
Drops flame sword/armor and confuse tome, may be too late to be useful
-Ice Gigas: Mysidian Tower
Kill with wall and warp/toad
Drops Ice Brand, SouthWind, Stop Tome
-Thunder Gigas
Kill with wall and warp/toad
Drops Wizard's Robe/Black Robe (!)
Tornado Boss 'rush':
-Royal guard x3-4?
no idea.
-Royal Guard x3-4?
no idea.
-Emperor, Royal Guardx2, Wood Golem
no idea.
Jade/Pandemonium:
I can't remember how many of the fights in here are forced. I'm pretty sure all the bosses are optional for treasure. But I think they're all singles so wall & warp/toad
Final Boss: Emperor
Kill with wall and warp/toad

Arise, thread, from the grave.
So, the enemies that are immune to instant death spells like toad and warp (which, as it turns out, are pretty few to begin with) can be killed with this glitch. This means the only thing you really need is (maybe) someone with huge evade to stand in the front row (and run if you can't carry enough potions), someone with wall, and someone to cast murder spells. Probably can be all one character.
I am uncertain if this works in the GBA port. But it does mean any boss can be killed without having to worry about things like fighting.

Really nice run. When a game gets progressively more and more worked over, an hour goes down smooth. I've watched it twice already and I know I'll watch it again sometime soon.

It's coming out in less than 12 days I think. There was a problem with the manual printing that's delayed the release.
I've played a few beta builds and the demo and everything. A TAS would be lovely :)

Oh dear, I missed this question. Uh, when you get enough EXP to buy a level in any one of the three categories, you're forced to take one. You can't cancel the level if there's no 'next'.
It's a non-issue if I'm skipping bosses, will finish 1-1-1 easy. Killing bosses changes things, since most of them give enough EXP to force a level at 1-1-1
;~;
Initial testing indicates palace 3 probably won't be possible before palace 2 so that's something! I already knew you can get the raft with just left&right, but looks like I may need the glove to get to the boss. Otherwise I have the west hyrule route more or less nailed down, two more things to check then I'll start a rough testrun of that part of the game
