Well, my stategy involves pressing select every other frame, but since you're going so fast, sometimes pressing select does nothing. So you have to wait an extra frame or two here and there. So if you get unlucky with it, and end up having to wait 3 extra frames in between kicks, using a punch (or two?) in stead to is probably faster than what I did. Come to think of it, if you have to wait 2 frames, one punch might 'fix' the select problem temporarily. I haven't tested this, though, it was just an idea I had.

Hey, cool. I'll watch the wip when I can and offer up some advice.

Yeah, computer problems, lost the WIP. I had to restart anyway. And I don't have the means to restart even if I wanted to.

I like Inzult's strategies to fight boss, but I'm pretty sure that upgrading your gun to the level 3 on the first stage will do more damage to the boss, but it will be much slower since jump kick seems the fastest way to complete level...
Yeah, I'm pretty sure upgrading the gun after is better. You only get a couple of shots in in between kicks. It seems to me that some combo of kick/select and punch/duck should be used, because occasionally there's some small number of frames where you can't press select. So my strategy was probably not optimum (but reasonably close). It doesn't work all the time, though, some bosses get knocked back when you hit them. The strategy is similar, except occasionally you have to jump, then kick to get closer while still attacking (not jumpkick, that knocks you back iirc).

In menu transition I'm one frame slower than Inzult and for now I really didn't understand why...
At some point, I sort of remember discovering I was even a few frames slower than BoltR on the title screen and menus. I didn't even check against him at first because I assumed I could do the menu as fast as possible just by being careful with it, but I guess I was wrong! Good luck with it. I'll try to borrow my brother's computer sometime and show some other boss strategies if I can.

I have to go with Mario Kart. Almost every track has a totally out of the ordinairy strategy, and the tracks where there's "actual race" there's a whack of visually appealing extra long boosts. Actually, I'm going to go watch it right now... in a paragraph or so All items Super Metroid is a pretty close second, though. For some reason, I really like watching Metroid runs, even though I hate playing those games. And for some crazy reason, I find the longer the better.

I don't typically laugh at TASes because they're funny. I have a hard time seeing humor in gameplay. I laugh when I am impressed until my brain breaks. With that bias in mind, Silius was incredibly entertaining while being silly during wait times. So that gets it for me. Chip & Dale is a close second, for being silly in its haste to beat the game.

I don't see how saying you enjoyed a movie (or not) is ever pointless, and that's what's being accomplished by voting in the poll... Anyway, I liked this run okay, there was a good number of moments where you brought a smile to my face. I don't know if it stands up over such a long movie, though. I was getting tired of it towards the end. Even so, I'll probably watch it again.

But, speaking of RPG-type games, I do not know them well, and so I have no knowledge as to which ones have more luck manipulation than the others. Pokemon? Final Fantasy? Dragon Warrior? If someone is more familiar and has some input, it would be appreciated. Thanks :)
I have a soft spot for RPG TASes, but I am still considering what's most lucky. Only started thinking about it when you brought it up in the other thread. I only want to make one or two suggestions... I'll make 'em soon! Maybe! But on another note, I would like to nominate Swordless Link as an N64 TASer. You know, great contributions and all. And I know Super Mario Kart is already in SNES TASes, but I think it should also be in "Innovative". The way the times were gotten was the most amazing part. Very unorthodox strategies were used on every track. Unless I am misunderstanding that category, then nevermind!

Once the catergories are decided, a single nomination thread would probably suffice, with all the categories at once. Or even nominate through PMs, if people think public nominations will get someone butthurt. Anyway, you nominate some arbitrary number of movies or TASers, say 3 per category, and then move onto seperate threads with polls... I find what people collectively think to be more interesting than a list of stats or people nominating people for random invented categories.

Ok, well I'll just post my idea in this thread then, and see where it goes. [idea]
I would love to see this happen, what with a nomination thread, followed by polls based on nominations and all that lovely stuff. I think you pretty much have all the categories covered, too. But maybe 'funny-' could be swapped for 'entertaining-' or maybe both, I guess... Someone may have to take the bull by the horns here, and do some actual organizing of just how it would work. But I'm certainly interested in seeing how something like this turns out.

Note: I didn't use this trick in stage 8-3 otherwise I would have had to decide whether to waste 42 frames in watching three fireworks or not to by wasting 19+ frames somewhere else to miss them....
But would waiting the ~19 frames be quicker than watching the flagpole go down? I am not even close to familiar with this game (even as a casual player) so maybe I'm misunderstanding what the wait entails... But that's the explanation he gave, anyway. e: haha, hi randil

Subbookkeeper comes to mind. Unless you consider it invened for the sake of people being able to say a word has 4 sets of double letters. In which case, bookkeeper comes to mind :)

Quite remarkable manipulation, here. Watching the fights go by while the game is paused is unusually interesting. It's as if the fights are winning themselves. If that makes sense. I wasn't sure about save-resetting when I read about it, but it works out quite well, and only adds to how cleverly manipulated the game looks. I'm certainly looking forward to completion, as far off as that may be. Keep up the good work, sir.

I liked it. New stuff happening all over, and going from one place to the next doesn't seem to involve any obvious routes. You know, lots of "I'd never think of that"s packed into the gameplay, nice job. I'd definitely watch it again, adding one to the yes tally.

Somewhere in my country are Chamale and Rridgeway. oh SNAP But there are a surprising number of Canadians here. That leads me to beleive there's probably nothing better to do here than sit on the internet.

Is there a reason you revive long "dead" gruefood submissions? IDK about anyone else, but it seems a better place to post comments or questions would be in the games respective thread... or, better yet, to PM the player. Just an opinion, but it does bother me.
Seems to me it's a reasonable enough place to ask if anyone knows if this is the same run that wound up on another site rather than adding noise to a thread meant for discussing the creation or improvement of a run. Weatherton is still active, so a PM could have worked, granted.

Think about it ignoring long term problems like other members on the board does not make the problem go away.
Users could ignore other users. Moderators would still have the unenviable task of reading all the posts. If there really is a problem that the moderators might consider serious, I imagine they would deal with it whether the user complains or not. If it's a simple case of someone being annoying, someone else has the option to block it. So in stead of users trying to 'drive off' annoying people, and being annoyed when those people stay, cumulating in the user trolling the annoying person, pressuring the moderators to take action, and possibly both parties being banned, the user can choose to simply cut him or herself off. This sort of feature can keep the atmosphere of a forum from getting too negative. I don't see a downside, really. Besides the work setting it up, I mean. It's all well and good to say if there is a problem on the forum, report it, but most people want to purge thier forum of dumb people, whether those people are following rules or not. You can't very well report someone for being stupid or irritating. But if you think you can get away with trolling someone into quitting, then why not do it?

if the feature was implemented I would end up choosing to block several previous posters in the thread
So would I. But that's neither here nor there. Don't get me wrong. I'm quite capable of scrolling down to the next post if I come across something I don't like. It's clear that a lot of people do not share this skill. An ignore feature would save me some scrolling time, though.

I actually think this screenshot reasonably demonstrates the spirit of the run. I think it's kind of funny. You know, since approximately 95% of the run is walking through town. But this moment might be a suitable replacement. I can't look at the exact frame number, as my desktop is (once again) out of comission, and I'm (once again) rockin' my iBook.

This may seem like a trivial question, but I've seriously wondered about it many times. The pages and ink used in many of my textbooks have some weird reflective properties that basically make them unreadable if the light source is within a certain distance or at a certain angle to the book. This is quite inconvenient, as you may imagine. Does anyone know why such paper and ink is used?
The ink is probably the same used in any other publication. The paper may be heavier than what you find in a magazine, for durability's sake. What you are likely experiencing with the reflectiveness is mainly from the book's finish — glossy or maybe semi-glossy. Glossy finishing is used because it is shiny, appears more vibrant and colourful, it has the best optical density and it's pretty much the industry standard. It probably accounts for about 20% of the cost of your textbook, by the way. Newspapers use a matte finish in stead of glossy, and are a much lighter paper. And a lot easier to read, I think.

When you pass Zelda, one game is passed out of one game played. That is 100%. Hey, the published run is now also a 100% run, wicked.

Any game with multiple final bosses or victory conditions? Games with no goals? No end? Shadow the Hedgehog, maybe? Civilization? Sim City? Pacman? Tetris? Rhetorical questions?
