Oddly enough, I felt the same way about Diabeatus. ;)

About the pauses, they were the fastest way I found. To make them less obvious (ie, a series of small pauses) might change where the enemies appear, because they appear in relation to Link, and I would still have to wait to avoid them. It is probably only possible to spread the large pauses over 2 or 3 steps. If that's better, it's something to keep in mind for next time, if there is a next time :) Also, I was thinking of potential screenshots. I like the Link in the lava from the current run, and that could easily be used again, but what do you guys think about a moment like this:

Gargoyles Quest 2, maybe? It's got pretty complicated movement, but could be cool. Magic of Sheherazade could be done, but I've only played it for about 5 minutes. It might wind up being recieved like Crystalis in stead of like Zelda. Master Chu and the Drunkard Hu maybe? It'd probably be a simple task, if I recall the game correctly. But it could go either way. Orb-3D might be doable. It's a unique game.

I still haven't done (read: started) my shopping. I suspect I will be killed sometime over the next few days in a mall trampling accident. And you all will not miss me. I can tell. :( Merry Christmas, anyway.

anybody going to bring up the fact that we already have a tetris attack and shouldn't have 2 runs of the same game?
NES Marble Madness. Genny Marble Madness. The sameish game, with some slightly different shortcuts and physics. Sounds a bit like tetris attack and ...other tetris attack.

By the way, good job adelikat. This was one of my favourite runs, and the improvements were nice.

Oh hey guys, sup. Read this chatlog, it's way on topic. It's from about 10 days ago. Inzult: hey Jack Inzult: How's it hangin Rising Tempest: not bad Rising Tempest: just being hungover and working on Goldeneye Inzult: A deadly combo, for sure. Inzult: How's the progress? Rising Tempest: I started the facilty over because I found a way to save about half a second Rising Tempest: right now I'm at the hallway where I need to fire the KF7 to get a door open Inzult: That's good news. This might answer some questions, maybe. I bet if RT wanted to, he would have posted in this thread by now, so he's probably going to beat me up for this :(

We can also hunt moose or go ice fishing if we want. But I am interested in finding out stats-by country. Average movie length by coutry, rerecords by coutry, etc. Could be interesting.

I have nothing of of particular value to add to this subject. But I would like to say that everything that The Kins does makes me smile on the inside.

As per the goals it'd be a total higher score in a shorter time. In terms of adidng variety or doing this differently, I don't think that a higher score in a shorter time can be met, as this was pretty optimal. At best I could probably maybe save a second or two of in-game time for a few levels, but I'd be suprised if that AND score could be improved.
You don't think it can be improved. Well. Okay. You do think it can be improved. Or wait. You don't think it can be improved. As per the goals, It sounded to me like a random strategy was decided, so long as it was pretty fast and gave you a pretty good score. Hypothetically: Is a much higher score in a slightly slower time an improvement? Is a slightly lower score in a much faster time an improvement? If points per frame is how the run is supposed to be measured, then it seems that the answer to both could be yes.

...the best ratio of score to time...
Hey, that works. It allows for an objective element to compare other runs to. Thanks for putting it so simply for me :P So okay, I'm voting yes, because I did enjoy the run. I still think the goals are a bit fuzzy, but whatever. I was entertained.

First off, I enjoyed the youtube videos you posted of the WIP in the other thread. I have a question before I decidewhat I want to vote. How would you go about improving a movie like this? It's obvious that a higher score in a faster time would be an improvement, but what about a higher score in a slower time? Or is a lower score in a faster time okay? What is it measured against? The goals of this run seem to be 'I played SSB faailry quickly and also got a pretty good score'. Maybe I just don't understand.

I think that the inclusion of stick men would make it for me. Disembodied text is a touch avant garde for my tastes.

Since I can tell everyone's so excited about this game, here's level 1 completed. Tell me what you think, anyone who bothers to watch it. After figuring out a bit about how the game works, it winds up being pretty fast. You are able to keep your dash speed by staying in the air. I was going to test if having the space suit saves you from being killed by the damaging floor in 1-3, but then I found that if you jump on the first frame you land on it, you don't get hit. I have managed to get partially inside up-right slopes in testing, but I get ejected pretty quickly back to the left. I have not yet tried up-left slopes. There may be applications. edit: oh, uh. I used the Ninja Jajamaru: Ginga Daisakusen rom. It may work with the Squashed prototype as well, I haven't tested. If you have Squashed, the movie plays until the first slope of 2-1

On that note, I think the two NES Zelda games would work as a dual TAS. It could probably be done almost as quickly as the normal Zelda 1 tas, using L&R movement in Zelda 2 wherever possible without to catch up to Zelda 1. I was working on it, but had some severe desynch problems in whatever game I had going in the background. Mario 1 & 2j could probably work. Even adding in Mario 3, with the autoscrolling levels could probably work. But I imagine it would be pretty slow, compared to the usual TASes.

that just doesn't make any sense... not at all.
They tested the possibility of basing the Starfox engine off of the Zelda engine. Then they didn't delete the work they had done. I'd say it makes perfect sense. A lot less development is required if you base one engine off of another. It just so happens that it wound up left over in the code.

What is with the bunny? Couldn't you have ignored a hazy maze star and just went for the bunny's star?
The flaw with that is you can't collect the bunny's star to meet the minimum requirements to make the bunny appear. Because it won't appear. The number of stars a run of this nature gets isn't really of any relevance besides making the bunny appear. edit: The run was magical, by the way. Good work.
