can you sacrifice speed for entertainment and actually do the bonus levels?
You have to, otherwise you can't play the extra five levels and actually get 102%.

I figured it would be good to start your own recordings so that you could put your name in the author field (or at least not have someone else's name in there), and so the re-record count isn't artificially inflated.

I'll continually update this post as I progress through the remainder of this game. The run is finished, go watch it! The submission is here: http://tasvideos.org/987S.html

It takes BW 44 seconds to get those shoes...and it saves about 1 second even (at the most) per staircase on 8+8+9+8+9+6=48 of them. In his run, since he's going over each staircase twice, it definitely is worth it for him. However, if you are using these scrolls to skip the down segment of the towers, this makes only 4 seconds gained (which is a rough estimate), and this money would probably be better spent on a scroll or two. As far as other items, I don't even know what they do. I'm excited that this run is being improved (and by quite a lot, from the sounds of it). Good luck!

It's a red koopa shell ;-) I got the green shell earlier in the level, but got rid of it. I thought about bringing it along as well (and trying to juggle it), but getting the P-Switch and green shell through the blue fire blocks without hitting the shell with a fireball (and still having fun with the Chuck) seems pretty much impossible. Plus, juggling four things down the big drop is probably not possible (one could be dropped far to the right early, though), and the green and red shells couldn't touch, else they'd knock each other out. Something to consider trying if I ever find a reason to make a fourth version, I guess.

it might not occur to a visitor viewing the starred list that there might be more movies for the same game so there's a high probability that he won't even try to search.
This is true, I didn't consider this.
This is almost like giving all the movies the stars, but the actual list gets less cluttered.
Personally, I don't see the list getting cluttered as being much of a problem.
Some people felt the need to give a start to all those smw movies because they thought they were all good. The problem with this is that there are too many of them, and less would be enough.
The thing is, this is all opinion. Everyone has their own opinion of what the star list should be or how full it should be. It might be neat if members could create their own list of favorite movies. Then people could search for movies based on how many people consider it one of their favorites. Of course, this would need some kind of anti-lurker policy, much like the voting.

I think the ratio of star movies to normal movies is what should be kept constant, not the absolute number of them. (Perhaps this is what others mean too, but I wanted to clarify)
Warp wrote:
In the description of the starred one put links to the other movies with a text like "for other similar and equally excellent movies see also: link link link".
I see this as redundant; people know that there are more movies on the site than the starred movies. If they are a fan of the game, they'll go looking anyway, regardless of whether there is a link in a starred description. To me, it seems the definition of a starred run as a "good movie for a beginner to watch" and "a good movie to watch" is often blurred. Anyone who is coming here has at least some type of interest in what is done here; they'll look for the games they want to see. Perhaps runs that are good for beginners should be determined by which runs are the most popular to the general public of the site...although there is not a great way to determine that. We have download counts and voting systems...but still no great method comes to mind. Also, maybe this discussion should be moved to the star nominees thread.

Hey I saw this buried with a lot of progress done. Sounds like you have a chance at getting 0:38 for the game timer if this improvement keeps up! *Encouragement*

I don't know anything about this game, but the main character has some spastic movements that are fun to watch. I also think you did a good job overall of filling the areas that needed waiting with entertaining Johnny Bravo poses.

Why did you get 14 stars in Misty Isle 3?
It helped the fadeout lag to get stars in this level, but none of the others benefited from it this time around (most were slower if I got the stars).

I really like the music on this game. Unfortunately, I don't think it's well suited for a published TAS. It looked like it was played pretty well, but the game just seems very slow. For example, the first-person bosses last (17 * life) frames with no way to speed them up, and it just looks uninspired to shoot slowly at them, especially because they take so many shots to kill. I fast-forwarded through the final boss and it still seemed too long. Also, the comment Bag quoted caught my attention too, but after watching the game, it seems to me that it would save a very minimal amount of time if any at all.

Could someone try to hexedit the start of this so that it turns on the Stereo option, please?
I gave it a shot and I'm getting a consistent desync in the first level. I'd vote yes on this based on World 5 alone. Edit: Finished watching the run. Chain Link Chamber was, well, off the chain, to say the least. And Toxic Tower had me laughing, watching those stupid animals dominate things.

One thing that's been strange to me about downloading statistics is that obsoleted movies are not accounted for. Someday when SMW-11 is obsoleted, its download statistics are discarded, and as far as the goal of statistics, it doesn't seem accurate to me. Not that I have a good alternative.

It's definitely possible. Mr Bob, where were you talking about losing those three frames? I can't find a box you jump up to hit in YI3. The frames may be lost from random lag throughout the level...I know Super Demo World is bad for that. Also, you may want to start your SMV over from scratch, because yours is just recorded from the middle of the first level of the current published SMW-11 run (I'm not sure if that's allowed or not).

I don't know for sure if this is the same problem, but there is some hotkey-joystick (and turbo) discussion in this thread. There's also a modified version of SNES that fixed that issue, so if this is the same issue, then that may help you.

Hooray for ethnical diversity! Good to know that kids of any color (two) can jump skyscrapers. I don't know this game well, but it looked good from here. The run, that is. The game looks goofy as can be.

Yeah I feel kinda dumb for not fully reading the instructions. But if Truncated was already three seconds ahead of me on a harder difficulty, then my run definitely missed something regardless. Yay for no one wins!

The mushroom house death (and all sorts of other tricks) can be found on Genisto's Full Amazing SMB3 Run. Prone to desyncs, depending on which version of FCEU you have. The thread on this run is here.

It looks pretty optimized already to me. Dear lord the music in this game is awful. Taking old classics and playing them in ever-changing octaves over a NES does not sound good.

I don't know anything about the game, so the second level looked strange to me (mostly, I was just thinking "This would take FOREVER playing normally"). The first level looked good though. I'm hoping in later levels, there are more places to use the...um, snot?...grappling beam to get speed boosts. That would look really impressive in the right circumstances. Not knowing the game doesn't let me make many informed comments on it, but mostly I just wanted to say welcome!
