I don't feel this way. The run to me is "run to the next boss and then fight him quickly". It's well done, and a couple surprising moments with throwing the trash can against walls and such, but it's nothing mind-blowing to me. On the other hand, I think the scene NrgSppon described would be extremely entertaining to watch (mind wanders back to Battletoads Level 6...*BOOT*)

I can't think of what to change it to. This could stay as a thread for anyone with the same problem I had (it seems to be becoming that anyway).

I wasn't sure at first, but then I got to this second level: This was the crappy image I was attempting to draw above, minus 10 years of memory loss. FODA, you are my Dad. Thank you for solving this mystery for me!!

I personally think that a run fooling around like that would be much more fun to watch than what has already been done. (I never understood how that run got a star)

I just tried Section Z but that isn't it. I know it isn't Legend of Kage...this game is more colorful than LOK if I remember correctly. I always thought the word "Castle" was part of the title, but it seems like I've tried every game with that word in the title and none were what I was looking for. Edit: I tried to draw a picture of what my brain remembers. It accomplished nothing, but I thought I'd post it to let everyone get a good laugh from my lack of visual ability. (The red path is the player's jump path)

Although linked to somewhere in the other topic, here is what Spezzafer had done of the 100% run.

I'm sorry it's so vague...this is really the best I can remember. I think the guy was wearing some kind of space-suit type deal? The main character I think reminded me of the one from Clash at Demonhead.

Post subject: Can anyone help me think of the name of a game?

I played this game back in the day at my aunt's house. I don't know if the name would even be familiar, but any suggestions that I'm not sure aren't it, I'll check out. Here's what I remember about the game: It's a side-scrolling platformer for the NES. The main character can jump quite high, and I think the main character can shoot. The "level" I started at was a very repetitive outside scene where the floors were made of pillars of seemingly random heights (this is why I think you could jump high). I think the platforms were brown or tan colored. You could walk left or right, but it didn't matter because you could go in either direction for what seemed like FOREVER. Once I somehow made it to some other scene that might have been like a stone castle or something, and it also had the property of seeming to extend forever in both directions. I don't remember much else (it's been 12-15 years since I played this). If anyone has any ideas of what this game might be, please let me know. Thanks!

HAHAHA This game is awful. Why it was ever published before is beyond me. I'm not voting, I can't bring myself to vote yes on such a game, although it was played very well.

Your list says there is a Castlevania 1 run by Phil & Genisto in the queue, but I don't see it in there.

Perhaps the hardware upgrade is somehow related to this error I get when trying to send a private message:

The message does not send, as far as I can tell. (Either that or I've sent about 10 duplicate messages)

Angel Island is particularly quirky, due to its map boundaries. The second half of act 1 is actually delegated to the act 2 map, using the flaming intermission to make the switch
That explains why exiting second bonus-level ring of Act 1 gives you Act 2's music.

If it only uses a counter, does that means you can get this perfect bonus in Sonic 2 even if you can't keep all the rings (you get hit sometime and lose them)? I never even knew of this perfect ring bonus. It's cool.

Saturn: Thanks man! I try to get as professional of a sound as I can so that is has a chance of being taken a little more seriously than it otherwise might be. Todd: Not a problem. Glad you caught High Score, I figured that members of this site would get a kick out of it (although personally it's not one of my favorites). I have a few other video game lines strewn throughout my songs, they always seem to creep in. One of the songs also samples a piece of music from a popular SNES game with awesome music... FODA: Yeah, I forgot to reply though (but I have now), thanks!

Probably the reason for that is I fixate on virtuosity and am impressed by little else, and am turned off by imperfect technical execution of both playing and singing in music.
I can somewhat relate to this feeling myself, although I would rate technical execution as important as the feeling of the music instead of more important than. (This is what has driven me to become proficient with my own mixing / mastering) But my reason for posting is that I wonder if this feeling is somewhat common from users on this website, since the movies we make and watch are generally aiming for technical perfection as the primary goal.

I think the problem most people (myself included) have with rap is not the music (let's come back to that) as much as the people who like the music. The whole subculture around rap is just completely unappealing to me, and always has been.
I feel the effects of this too, but in a different way. When some people discover that I like rap or rap myself (usually people a generation above me), I can tell that I'm basically looked down on for it, because that entire subculture is portrayed so heavily in the music that people who are unfamiliar with it equate liking the music with liking that same subculture. Those who are less familiar with rap probably hear more about the subject matter they find offensive than anything else, and that can give them a skewed view of the genre (and thus, the people who like it). Those who are more knowledgable in it know that you can find more than that, depending on what you are listening for or who you are listening to. This is probably somewhat observable in (some of) the rap I make. I don't rap about things that aren't familiar to me, I just prefer to talk about the way I feel and my life. Of course, those type of people who adjust their personal opinion of others simply because of the type of music someone else enjoys are the kind of people who's opinion of me I could give a shit less about, so it's not too big of a deal.

Thanks a lot :) I'm real happy with how that song turned out.

There's a lot of their stuff I haven't heard, but I do like them a lot. My favorite song is "It's Yours" (probably spelled incorrectly (correctly)) because that beat is a good old-school beat and they snap on it from start to finish, especially Inspectah Deck. I personally don't feel 50 because I don't like his "singing" voice (and it sounds like he's rapping with a mouth full of crackers), but In Da Club's beat was a banger - no surprise with Dre behind the boards. In contrast, I just bought Sean Paul's album Trinity - now there's a guy who has a voice fit for sing-ish-rap. Quan also fits this category, but now I'm just rambling...

Wow, my list is going to be NOTHING like what is already here. In addition to all sorts of video game music, I listen to a lot of rap. Some of my favorite artists are Bone Thugs -n- Harmony, Joe Budden, Outkast, and Nas. I don't like rap that seems to be popular nowadays, as the lyrics are pretty mindless (which is why most people here don't like it, I'm guessing). I like really complicated rhyming schemes in the lyrics, and I especially enjoy very fast rapping. I've started listening to this station that plays classical music recently as well. I hear some of the classical music and think "Wow, this would sound even better with a tight kick/snare in it!" ;) And as stated above, I do rap myself, so I might as well post that link here since it's in a more relevant topic :) http://www.skuzz.com/jxq/music.html

This latest update was superb:
  • Hitting as many (-) barrels as possible on Haunted Hall was clever
  • Gusty Grove was a great watch
  • Parrot Chute Panic was Un-freakin-believable
  • Web Woods (one of the slowest and toughest levels) was destroyed
Is there just a glitch that allows the Spider to jump in mid-air after being hit, or did I miss something?

Yeah I didn't mean for it to become like this, sorry. I only posted it because I used to think that the rank meant something around here, but after reading the discussion that took place, I see that "rank" is completely meaningless.

How can you get a blue suit with a crystal flash? I thought it was gotten by speed-jumping into Draygon when his energy is low enough to kill him that way.

You didn't actually select expert mode in the options, you only made it available with the code.
I wondered about this. I didn't realize you had to select it after the code enabled it. I kept playing through thinking "this doesn't seem too expert-ish". Ah well. Gave me a couple fun hours. About the blue whip: if you get hit after getting it without whip upgrades, you automatically have the longer upgraded whip - not that it matters, cuz getting hit is probably bad.

And the final boss from Contra makes a cameo appearance! Lovely. This run should be a huge emphasized example of the "takes damage to save time" flag.

I did a run and got the red ball at 3:10:56. I'd upload it, but it desynced. Imagine my lividness. EDIT: Fixed it! Holy crap I love hexediting. Edit again: Anyway, I don't know if I know everything about this game, but I figure it's got some good strategy anyway. Edit X3: Some errors I've noticed are pausing during the white skeleton dragon, and some missed hits on the final boss (eek, that's bad).
