Diman, I meant that you had it spelled right, and Bisqwit wronged it. Even after the then/than is one of his pet peeves :-P I am reading that sentence as meaning: "It's better to begin with the hardest level first, and then go backwards." Bisqwit is reading it as: "It's better to begin with the hardest level first than to go backwards." I'm not sure which way you meant, but I assumed the first way because you didn't have that "to" in there, but neither was the "and". Thus, I'm removing myself from the discussion! Didn't mean to anger any editors! Run away! *poof*

TASing for me has become addictive. This probably contributes to our breakneck pace so far. I thought about trying the 11-exit SMW run, but now I'm not too interested in it - mostly because after running SDW for so long, SMW just seems so...simple, I guess. I'm not trying to knock SMW cuz it's a great game, but now I'm almost expecting seventeen enemies attacking me from various angles as I make difficult jumps. I also have thought about a SMB3 non-warp (but not 100% either) run. I enjoy the optimization of level order and using items on the map in the right places to speed levels up. I actually have been able to use similar strategies quite a bit in this SDW run :) But before I did that, I'd have to learn that game as in depth as I know this one. And I also have my SDW 15-exit run that now could be improved again, but I would estimate by no more than 4 or 5 seconds, and the strategies would basically be identical, except for the first few levels. Maybe someday, but I definitely think this full run is going to be much better. There aren't very many interesting levels in the 15-exit run. I also noticed that I have been changed from "user" to "player". This must mean Bisqwit thinks I should make more runs ;-) Thanks for all the kind words!

"I think it's better to begin with the hardest level first (which is channel4) then go backwards." was changed to "than go backwards." Starting with channel 4 is going backwards, I think it just needs a comma after "hardest level first". Cool little revision difference page though :)

I thought this was a great run, definitely better than any of the previous runs. Although I'm sure the day will come when the techniques Bisqwit mentioned will be combined with the tricks from this run, I'm voting yes for this.

That's where n64 or any other 3d TAS comes in. I don't think frame advance will do much of the trick there.
I see a trend. With 2d timeattacks, as emulator features became more robust, it was easier to come closer to the perfect run. Features like frame advance (or really just being able to control the presses on each frame, whether this or 5% speed) and frame counter. New features are always being brainstormed and implemented - Bisqbot and Frame Search are two examples that come to mind. When TASing fully hits 3d games, I would expect it will evolve in a similar way - new, exciting, and more challenging to make at first, and then as things become more standardized and emulators become more robust, the runs themselves will become more streamlined and seemingly mass-produced.

I don't think that run can be classified as anything except [scooby doo confused noise].

GWing, I'm confused as to what made you think we were mad at you? Heck, I wouldn't have done my first TAS of this game if I didn't have your smv of the first two levels to try and beat, so thanks much for that! As far as actually doing the run, I think it'd be tough adding more than two people, just because coordinating something like that takes some effort, but we definitely appreciate everyone that's giving input and ideas. It's the easiest way to help for later levels, and it means less hex-editing for me to do when an error is found later! We are still doing some entertaining stuff at the price of very small amounts of time, but we just make it look so slick that it's tough to notice :) And a big thanks to everyone's words of encouragement!

At about frame 26100, are you sure that couldn't have been done faster by flying to the left first so you have more rightward velocity by the time you're high enough?
I haven't tested, so I don't know for sure, but from the way it looks, since you immediately need to turn back around after getting the key, and the jump taken seemed to clear the block on the way down at the earliest possible time, I would think that more momentum to the right would just have to be canceled by pressing left earlier, resulting in the same moves. Edit: Just tested, and my guess was correct - it didn't save any time.
What was the point of using the message block after beating the castle 3 boss? It didn't seem to save any time, and I assume it wasted time to get it, though I'm not sure because I'm too lazy to watch that part again.
Gorling's right; it didn't take any extra time to get because we had to wait for Yoshi. We tried using the message block in Crystal World to save time, but all our ideas were obsoleted. The closest we came was using it as a platform to enter the door to #4 boss much earlier, but not having firepower wasn't worth it by the time he was defeated.

Also it should be noted that this needs to be watched from the beginning, not a savestate made from the earlier WIPs, because it has been changed from the very first level.

Yeah, that's the general consensus for this run. Played well, but bad game. It probably doesn't help that not too many have played this game. IMO, there are much worse games/runs that have been published. There have also been much better ones, but not every run can have star potential :) OH WELL. Working on this game got me into it, and now it seems I'm addicted to making them.

The reason we haven't put WIPs on the forum recently is to keep the run a surprise to the majority of the community, much like Angerfist is for his current MM4 run. However, like Fab said earlier, we are sharing the run with those who want to help in quality control, in an effort to end up with the best run we can make. And if enough people really want to see the progress, we may change our minds on this. Thanks to everyone for their interest!

The dialogue in this game is beyond awesome. I now have a new signature! I had forgotten about this game. The run was played well, but the game doesn't lend itself to being that fast. I say meh.

All the order is based on is the difficulty level and the character you select. Thus, it's basically unmanipulatable :( Also very glad this movie was published, been a long time coming.

Yeah, Sky World is now finished, at a time of around 51 minutes. Hopefully we can keep up this pace!

It is a neat idea but I don't know if it's needed. A run that is rejected is usually (not always) breaking some rule, like using a hacked game, or submitting a run with almost no rerecords, etc. Otherwise the games seem to remain in "new" status. A run that is canceled is usually being re-improved by the author or someone else, and that topic is handled already by the individual games. However, there could be situations where it's useful. Maybe when a run is canceled, have the option whether or not to lock the topic for the author, and when rejected, for the one who rejects the run. That way, interesting canceled/rejected movies could still be discussed.

You also need to finish with even time units, otherwise your score will tally up to the wrong digit after completing the level. Well, or you could finish with odd and the incorrect digit, only to have it correct itself. How slick :)

How can we improve the usability and usefulness of this website?
Correctly title and alphabetize the movie pages. It's confusing having Mega Man after 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. It's real confusing having Legend of Zelda 2 in the L's, and Zelda 2 in the Z's. The 3 Castlevania games are nowhere near each other. Change Castlevania 3 to the English name first to stay consistent with the rest of the entries, the same way that Bionic Commando was recently changed.

The (perhaps imagined) higher maturity level should exist not because we refuse to poke fun at each other, but because we don't take insult when we do.
I know that if you were saying stuff like that about me long after the situation has passed on a completely unrelated thread, it would come across as insulting to me. Whether or not what you're saying is immature bickering, or a mature joke, is a personal judgement call. Either way, I just feel it's unneeded and detracts from the atmosphere of the thread about a completely different game than what you're referring to.

I don't understand what your goal is with posts like this. Are you just trying to restart an argument? I personally like that this forum seems to have a higher maturity level than the average forum. Hopefully that fact remains for a long time to come, but posts like this accomplish the opposite.
