Wow, go to sleep early one night and look what happens. When a movie replaces an old one, the movie has been "obsoleted". That implies time, to me. I also have to say that I think it's ridiculous that Sleepz is so protective over his name staying on a run. I never thought that was something that went along with a TAS, because of the way they are made. It's never been about who makes the movie, it's about having the best movie. And when did 36 frames of improvement become "not enough"? When a game's time is as close to the theoretical limit as (we think) SMB2's is, improvements will be small at best. And this wobbling nonsense - you people are just looking for a reason to keep Sleepz's name on the main page. I can't imagine the thought process behind "Wow this is a real fast run! Oh my gosh look at the wobbling. What a previously great, but now horrible, run." Cry me a river. In conclusion, quit acting like a bunch of bitches, and just keep the vision of the sight in mind. Also remember that speed is the primary form of entertainment. And if this run gets rejected (or the publishers aren't in a "hurry publishing this movie"), then it is blatant favortism over players rather than the product, which is unfortunate. We will only delay the process of the movies approaching perfection with this attitude.

Or both, maybe. Teamwork made the awesome (short) Super Mario World run. I looked at MF's first post, and he has a list of glitches he was planning on using. The only one he hasn't described or done yet is "Platform yank". So hopefully if he's cool with someone continuing his WIP, he can also let us know what that trick is. Unless it is already known - in that case, I, the idiot, should be ignored.

Sorry to excite everyone by bumping the topic, but I was wondering if Michael has worked any more on this run. And when I say that, I really mean "I hope he's made huge amounts of progress and just isn't telling us because this was the most impressive WIP I've seen on the forums"

I've only played the SNES version, so I don't know, but I wouldn't think that they are mostly the same, aside from graphics and sound comparisons.

EDIT: Just tested, Easy difficulty lets you play up until level 11, and according to all the FAQs I found (and my memory), this is the last level.

I got this working finally. Bisqwit, I'm just wondering if you did this level design yourself. It's very good!

Awesome, thank you. These are very interesting. I never realized that getting KONG gave you 100 points. Very helpful!

No promises, but what would you all think of a Cool Spot time attack? If yes, then some more questions for you: What difficulty would be the most interesting? I know that we have the "play hardest difficulty" rule, but the higher the difficulty, the more cool points you have to collect before being able to leave the level. Also, more are required to enter the bonus levels, as follows: Easy: 30 to finish, 75 for bonus Normal: 60 to finish, 85 for bonus Hard: 90 to finish, 95 for bonus Each level has 100 cool points hidden throughout. The problem is that many are not on the direct path through the level, so as the required number goes up, so does the time spent veering off-course. Also, this is not the only difference in difficulty. There are a lot more enemies in Hard than Normal. The bonus levels would be the best part of the time attack, in my opinion. You bounce up through a 7-up bottle on reappearing bubbles to get to the top. Also, collecting all the points in these levels ends them early, so getting them as fast as possible would make a good video, and speed up the level. Lastly, this game has eleven levels, only ~six of which are unique looking. This may get boring to watch after a while. Plus, there are only six bonus levels, so after completing them, there is still more game to get through. So, here is the final list of questions for everyone: 1) Would this game make a good time attack? 2) What difficulty would be best to play? 3) Should this be a minimal run (completing levels only), or should it include bonus levels as well, or should it get 100 points in each level? Advantages and disadvantages of each choice:
    Easy difficulty:
      Advantages:
        Would create the shortest movie
      Disadvantages:
Would create the easiest-looking movie Goes against hardest-difficulty rule
    Medium (default) difficulty:
      Advantages:
Would create a good balance between fast and good movie No need to change difficulty at beginning of movie
      Disadvantages:
        Goes against hardest-difficulty rule
    Hard difficulty:
      Advantages:
        Would create the best-looking movie
      Disadvantages:
Would create the longest movie Lots of sidetracking may bore the viewer
    Including bonus levels:
      Advantages:
These would be the best part of the movie, in my opinion. They are fast paced and fun to watch. Only six out of eleven levels would need to meet the bonus stage requirement, allowing for optimization of which levels to collect those extra cool points in.
      Disadvantages:
Levels would require more cool point collection, and be longer as a result. Movie would be longer, as it includes six more "levels"
    No bonus levels:
      Advantages:
The movie would have less levels, and less cool point collection would be needed
      Disadvantages:
Missing out on a potentially cool viewing experience
My answers would be: 1) Yes 2) Medium (or maybe hard) 3) Bonus levels, not 100% I'd like to know what the community thought before even thinking about doing this run, so fire away. And if there is a better way to edit this page, then feel free to let me know, or edit it better, if you are an editor. Thanks.

Do you or anyone else happen to have the smv to a score this high? I'd be interested in seeing it, and I didn't find any on this or the other forum discussing it.

is the ending as long as the actual recording?
The ending goes from frame 36783 to 63700 or so, which is 26917 frames. So, to answer your question, not quite, but it is longer than level four! Also don't forget to come back and tag a yes vote when you get that fourth post in :)

It is an innovative idea for a time attack, but it got very repetitive to me. There just isn't much interesting to look at in this game. Although the moves you did were planned well, as you said, it just doesn't have that "look that screams perfection." However, to someone who has played the game more than I have, it would probably be more enjoyable. Since I haven't played this game too much, I won't be voting.

I don't know how to further my argument but it sounds so damn unlogical (or is the correct term; illogic?) that its for the best for Pharaoh Man to stand on the center of the screen.
You think the game is programmed as follows: Loop until Pharoahman = Dead then do Explosion animation and simultaneously start a small timer to delay Mega Man obtaining the weapon. However, the game may do things in the following way: Loop until Pharoahman = Dead then Loop until Explosions = offscreen and THEN start a small timer to delay Mega Man obtaining the weapon. That's all I can come up with from watching the videos side by side.

I noticed this too. I can get up to 400% and it seems legitly 4 times faster, but 800% is just as fast as 400, but with crappier sound. Must just depend on the individual hardware. So if someone decides to implement this idea, maybe they can also throw in an input display hot key. (Forum: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2650)

I can't get this game to work. I'm using Firefox 1.0.6, and everything shows up (instructions, details, and records) except after clicking Game, I get a blank window, and the timer runs. Any ideas?

Interesting that completing this game apparently makes you the Messiah of Earth. Guess we can all stop reading our Bibles and play Zanac. I don't know if this video could get published due to the code it uses, although I understand why. The Zanac video currently is a famtasia full-run with a long long long long description. I'll vote yes here in hopes that it replaces the old run.

The last level of this game has some sweet music. Faster than existing record, and gets rids of a famtasia movie! Two reasons to vote yes.

Princess Tomato In The Salad Kingdom is another menu-based storybook type game for NES, in case you were looking for more to do.

I vote yes. Nice video, and not knowing SMB2 as in depth as someone like Bisqwit, there are no mistakes that detract from the entertainment.

Is there a way to have FCEU show you what keys are pressed while playing, or while playing a FCM video? (Much like the ',' in Snes9x)

I don't understand the specifics all that well, since I haven't played these games, but all I can say is that if the kind of entertainment made on this website can get people in an uproar, I can only imagine what the effect of this will be. Still, hilarious.

I think most ROMhacks are generally less impressive than the original game, if nothing else, because it's not familiar. Any impressive techniques wouldn't even be noticed because most haven't played the game.

Yeah the (E) means European, which typically is the PAL version. (U) is the US version.

I played in the Blockbuster tournament as well, and won the store with a score of 3027, by ten points. Phew! I even got a little piece of paper in a frame with my name on it. I'm more proud of it than I am of my high school diploma!

Have you played this? I would have to vote no on this possibility. I always thought it would be cool to try a run of this game, though. I was able to get 4001 after much practicing, but this was without slowdown / savestates. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1816 This has the version of SNES9X with mappable hotkeys, under Input -> Customize Hotkeys.

the title screen music is more entertaining than Stage 4
I totally agree. The digitized voices in this game were ahead of their time in NES sound quality, but hilariously bad for voice-acting. I wish that somehow I could have talked to Lester ("Check it ouuuut") but all the tricks he teaches you are useless. I also thought it'd be cool to let some of the between-level cinemas run ("Major bummer dude"), but that would have probably doubled the movie length. Let's not forget that Icepick looks like a cross-dresser and that makes me laugh. If anyone hasn't played this game, I'd suggest at least listening to the title screen for a bit and watching the opening scene. If that doesn't make you roffle while watching it then you are most likely a poseur. EDIT: http://www.nesplayer.com/skateordie/index.htm will automatically play the title screen music, if you can't find / don't want to get the ROM.
