Although Tetris games are different, and this one is more different from the others than Baxter's recent deluge of Tetris submissions, I don't see a need for publishing all these very similar runs.

We should link to that video with the scrolling text the next time someone suggests watermarking or something similar.

I've had a few requests for the AVI with commentary included, but the torrent is sometimes pretty unavailable. So, I uploaded the AVI with commentary to the internet archive. http://www.archive.org/details/OoT_TAS_With_Commentary

Thanks, guys! I may retry this with more video knowledge, just not anytime soon. And if others who submit their Super Metroid runs are interested in this, I could try it again then, too.

Oh yeah I remember this final fantasy arrangement! The MTPO reminds me of F-Zero's Big Blue more than itself. I hope you pursue more arrangements in the future :)

If by "support", you mean "wondering aloud why you were still TASing this game if you hated it so much", then no problem :) You played music with the input <3

Thanks Tompa. Yay someone else found value in it :) This is my first real experience at encoding things, and I do agree that the video quality is sub-par when compared to the official tasvideos encodes, though it's not by any means unwatchable for me. I've been given some tips that can hopefully improve my future projects. However, I didn't want any kind of introduction; I wanted the action to start from the beginning and never let up until the end. That was the whole point of the video. I don't think that saying "door transitions and such were removed" is necessary at all. Watch the video for a few minutes and it becomes obvious that there aren't any door transitions. I also believe that someone who watches it, and is interested in figuring out the origins of the video, could educate himself.

I think that attitude is too concerned with what other people think. There will always be people who don't get it, and others who take it upon themselves to try and inform those people can end up censoring themselves. It reminds me of the "God's Hand" fiasco - getting worried because someone else might make an incorrect assumption and think badly of the product or its producer as a result, and censoring the whole situation to avoid this scenario, even though at the core, there was nothing malevolent there in the first place. My response is: So what? Since when is it my job to make sure that no one misunderstands anything I do? I just made this video because I think it's entertaining to watch. I don't care about the "reputation" of TASing. This won't be replacing any official publication at the site, so those who are hopelessly lost trying to watch a Super Metroid TAS without first reading the plot can refer to the original encoding.

Homer: Well basically, I just copied the plant we have now. Burns: Hmmm. Homer: Then, I added some fins to lower wind resistance. And this racing stripe here I feel is pretty sharp. Burns: Agreed. First prize. Hello! I've finished work on an AVI which takes this TAS, and removes the more boring parts, such as door transitions, item acquired boxes, a good part of the elevator rides, the intro, the credits, and the cutscene between Ceres and Zebes. Normally, hacking apart this run would throw the sound out of sync, but I remixed the sound partly by use of the sound channel toggle that Upthorn added to SNES9x 1.43, and partly by manual reconstruction of the individual sounds. I also took advantage of this position by turning down some of the louder sounds and playing the music tracks for longer instead of always following the environment. Anyway, I'm really happy with the result. You can download this from the Internet Archive.

Super Metroid is unfair to TASers in the way that the very first segment is one of the most difficult. Tonski, evilchen, anyone else, if Ceres is giving you a lot of trouble, you might be able to better practice TASing skills at other parts of the game, then return there later with more experience. Green Brinstar is where I start really having fun. Maybe it's the music. :)

I think intrinsic words that no one should have to complicate are illegal, just like MP3 format. You wouldn't steal a car, would you??

Thanks very much Upthorn. Now I can continue this video and show everyone why I'm excited about this feature :)

Just remembered this one: Girl got a ass as round and fat as Dr. Robotnik Auto-tuning...wow. Not that I can really speak down on that, since I use re-records every time I mess up when recording :)

I realize that dev on a deprecated version of software isn't exactly the best way to go, so I'm not surprised there is very little motivation for this request to be fulfilled. SO, I'm now willing to compensate the person who takes the time to do this change. Please send me a PM if that is something that you are interested in, and we can discuss it further.

Hardware: I record with a Shure microphone interfaced through a Sound Blaster Audigy card. Software: I use Fruityloops and a couple sample packs for beat sequencing. I record my vocals in Goldwave, and mix/master them in Acid. Thanks for giving it a listen :)

Yikes. When jump-climbing a ladder, can you grab the ladder at any time besides the peak of your jump? If so, it looks like you might be able to climb the ladders faster by grabbing and rejumping more often. I haven't tested it, though, mostly because I'm lazy.

This is a cool bug, but the run wasn't too interesting for me. I give it a meh.

I tried adaptive pitch again with liberal use of the replay button and got 0.3375. Once the sound difference gets down to 0.09375, it's a guessing game for me. This probably explains why I'm the only person I know that notices that Top 40 radio stations are slightly speeding up songs (making the overall pitch very slightly higher) in order to fill in more commercials (I'm assuming).

I guess I'm only good at my very specific style of music. Anything techno or jazz sounding totally threw off my sense of being able to keep track of it. Rhythm test: 80% Tone deaf test: 66.7% Adaptive pitch: 0.4875 Hz Edit: There's a replay button on the adaptive pitch?! I guess my sound recognition far exceeds my visual recognition. (As if I'm not reminded of that every day I drive somewhere)

The smv in the publication is always changed to that format. The smv in the submission is still the original name \o/

My respect for Eminem's skill disappeared when I first listened to Encore. I realized that he's just as repetitive as those other mainstream rappers, he just chose different subjects to repeat than most. If deep and personal lyrical content is what you search for, I highly recommend some Joe Budden mixtape tracks, especially those off of Mood Muzik part 2.

Thanks for the comments guys. Ironslayer, there are more references. "Just a Game" from My Words, and "Now Loading" from extra songs both focus heavily on them, and "My Voice" from My Voice has a few in the 2nd verse. There may be more that aren't coming to mind at the moment.

On the SMW screenshots, they look like they have background clipping off (default toggle is Backspace), causing some blue backgrounds to turn black.

The SNES implementation of this is...well, something isn't right with it. Example 1 Example 2
