Let's not forget that SCW has no ASM either. Absolutely none. And funguy10, you've said the other hacks (like Super Demo World) are boring, so I'm not sure why you're bringing them into the picture.

I just meant that having a takeback feature negated the need for savestating. And a chess game isn't about real time reflexes, so TASing it seems redundant to regular play of the game.

I watched this on moozooh's recommendation. Fast paced throughout, and this can't be stressed enough. This TAS never slows down! Great music - only 4-1 wasn't too good. Nice graphics, though not too colorful. The boss's explosion animations were top notch. A TAS of this game takes the control and makes it look like a blast to play. I'm not sure if this is the case when playing real time, but this was a great watch.

This "game" still makes for a terrible TAS.

I hope Saturn gets in on this :) (The TAS guy, not the planet. Though I have nothing against the planet.)

A chess game with a takeback feature seems "TAS-proof" to me.

I think that'd pretty much cover it. Although I'm very much the opinion that every game should be made with speedrunning/TASing in mind. For one, it increases the replayability enormously.
This quote interests me. I totally agree for regular speedrunning, but not for TASing. I think human error is more than enough to provide some nice exploits in games. Trying to replicate this intentionally would make the whole thing seem...cheap? I guess.

Very funny. Are you going to follow this up with "Ocarina of Time Sucks Ass" and "Chrono Trigger Blows Bad"?
No way, these titles aren't nearly clever enough. You didn't even put "Blows" on the Ocarina of Time title! An Ocarina is a musical instrument that you blow! Missed opportunties, my good man.

Or, give it a shot yourself. None of us knew how to TAS at some point. There's plenty of material on the site to guide you and answer common questions.

I agree. The TASes of both Super Mario World and Super Demo World are too boring because they mostly just fly through them.
Have you watched these runs? There is flying, but there is much hopping to keep things more entertaining than standard flight.
TSRP2 has levels that do not allow for one that do not allow one to start/keep running speed and start/keep flying. So it will actually be more entertaining than those 2 runs.
I do not follow this at all. Because Mario has to go slower due to level design, the run will be more entertaining? I think not.

I'm not sure if this is your intention, but if you are trying to argue that Second Reality is better in an attempt to get someone to TAS it, it's probably futile.

Sigh. Forest Temple? Honestly, don't let the conversation wander. Only posts specifically instructing Guanobowl what actions to take next should be posted here. You see, forums aren't for primitive things like having conversations or discussing things, they are simply mandatory robotic checksums designed to make sure someone's TAS adheres to the guidelines of someone else, portion by portion. This derailing of the Ocarina of Time thread by talking about issues related to the Ocarina of Time game is unneeded and distracting. (This is sarcasm, by the way)

I thought Mupen didn't support recording from a snapshot (which would make it not possible at this point).

I agree that TSA is not the best person to talk to for a modest, neutral conversation, but for God's sake don't shun him for an inflated ego.
Don't shun him for an inflated ego? Please, I will do exactly that. I don't respect Kobe Bryant either, because he's an arrogant little prick. He's good at basketball, but that doesn't let me ignore how much of an ass he is.
Look at Muhmammad Ali. A legendary fighter who was a cocky, arrogant bastard, but boy could he fight!
Right, give his fighting credit, but not his demeanor. That's exactly what I'm doing with TSA. He might be good at Zelda speedrunning (though many say there are several who are better), but I don't care about Zelda speedrunning as a skill. All he's got left after that is his shitty attitude.

I don't understand what you mean. I never said I did or didn't believe you. I'm just trying to explain what independent discovery means.

Yes it can, because the time/technique (I mean the same thing here) found by Genisto wasn't given to the community in the form of a demo or another run, so the community can still discover it for themselves. Genisto may have found it before adelikat, but adelikat still discovered it independently of Genisto's work. It's kind of like an involved math proof - some things were worked on by more than one person who didn't work together, and they both found the same result. In that case they are both credited with its discovery with the phrase "(Math proof), discovered by (Person A) and (Person B) independently".

They both (adelikat & Genisto) discovered it independently. Genisto didn't share or demonstrate this technique to adelikat.

Yes, according to my rough estimations, you probably won't ever be needing to get any refills that aren't already on your way after that point, unless a shortage of super missiles at Mother Brain's second form would cost more time than manipulating the Golden Torizo to drop them.
It's quicker to avoid refills and just use the charged shots instead. Every three super missiles against Mother Brain gains only a couple frames (I think).

Did it take the same amount of frames from the face punch to the knockout punch for both? If so, then it is difference in the game timer's rounding for that case. Good ol' in-game timers <3

I never searched for this tricks directly, they all came over me in the game and forced me to "discover" them in order to survive in the runs I did
Reminds me of jimsfriend. He gets somewhere and MAKES the trick work that he needs. It's unreal. Anyway, Saturn would be a ninja if Super Metroid was Mega Man, or if the ninja rank meant anything concrete. I never imagined my previous run having this much improvement to find. This trick in particular shifts so much focus off of a very time consuming part of the run, and exponentially eases my ammo situation at that point. Excellent find!

TSA is an arrogant attention whore and the fact that people are signing up on websites to defend his "honor" when he is talked down about just shows that he's definitely got attention. I don't care how many boring ass Zelda speedruns he's done; his attitude stops him from getting any respect from me.
