Hmm, I also noticed a koopa that kicks a shell that you can't bounce to stop. Kind of neat. Anyway I played this a bit, some desert levels, grass levels, and to me, this is just another hack with badly designed levels, being hard just for the sake of being hard - but wrapped up in pretty graphics. Meh, that doesn't do it for me.

Goldude, in the future, I suggest you also use rerecords - you'll save yourself a lot of time and frustration. I can't imagine having the patience to finish a run if holding the wrong buttons when frame advancing meant I had to start all over. You've obvoiusly got patience! Once you are used to rerecords, you might want to try a longer game that is a bit more involved. There's been one other submission of Where's Waldo, and even when fully optimized, it's not a very fun game to watch. Everyone else: Quit being jackasses. There's a difference between pointing out a better way to do something and ridicule.

Goldude, the rules of the site encourage you to use rerecording tools in order to make the movie as close to perfection as possible. Did you use any slowdown or frame advance, or were you just playing the run as a console speedrunner would?

I haven't tried this yet. From the screenshots, the graphics look fresh, but the level design looks bad. What sold me on Super Demo World was the use of new items. Does this game have anything comparable to that, or is it just a (very well done) graphics and level hack?

Saturn is also working on any%. It would be ironic to have two or three versions of that run completed after it's been out-of-date for so long :)

Even if you don't use any screen-wrapping glitches (which I'm guessing gets you 3 or 4 more items possible at the most), this is a boring idea, and it's so anti-climatic it's disgusting.

NBMB is boring and the idea is flawed from the start. I can't imagine why it was published over at M2K2 (not to mention the quality of the run is very low). Brushy, the Super Metroid topic is pretty bloated so I don't see it as a problem to create another topic.

What allows for the spindashing into walls? Do you think anything like this is possible in S1K?

Well, I've failed again. The improvement Upthorn found in Green Hill 2 has messed with Marble 1 and I cannot for the life of me get to that platform even close to the original time because of some bat randomness screwing things up. Someone else can deal with this. It's just a boring screen-wrap, anyway, though I have to give extreme credit to Upthorn since myself, nitsuja, xebra, and several others have tried to make the screen wrap on this level work and we all failed. So please set this back to accepted, or rejected if people feel it shouldn't be published without this improvement. Gah, what a shitty few days. The improved version up to Marble 1 is here, in case anyone wants to see it or mess with it.

I didn't know there was a Doom 2D. But that's a different scenario: Doom doesn't have predecessors in 2D to remember fondly, which could help enhance the playing experience of a 3D-gone-2D game.

The experience of a video game is defined by more than its story and its perspective. OoT is a game I really wanted to like, but the interaction with the third dimension ruined it. If the game is true to OoT's gameplay as one might think it would be in 2D, then it could be a welcome return to a game experience I always wanted to be able to enjoy. The best example is Metroid Prime. The game is shit for countless reasons that detailing would only derail this thread. There was a Metroid Prime 2D in the works at some point, and I was excited about it. Sure, 2D Metroiding isn't new, but a new 2D Metroid game is a neat possibility to think about. Making a 2D version of a previously 3D game adds in nostalgia of the good qualities of whatever game is being transformed, and removes the downsides that a 3D game entails. Those who like 3D games obviously won't understand my angle, and probably don't care much about OoT 2D (or anything else 2D) anyway.
