I'm happy to see that there at least some others who share my feeling that 3D play ruined gaming. I'm basing this off of the fact that these "3D game in 2D" projects exist (possibly), and that people get excited about them. I'm unfamiliar with legal stuff. What could Nintendo's lawyers do before a release, besides threaten him? If this guy really wants to release his project, then he will. Nintendo could sue him after that, and get a court order to forbid him from distributing it. Luckily, the wonder of the intarweb can handle the distribution for him after that point. Is there more that I'm missing?

In regards to this run's improvements...I don't know where they went. I can improve the area in SY3 very slightly, but nowhere near the 20 frames I found before. I also was losing a frame or two in the following areas due to I don't know why. Anyway, this improvement would not improve the game clock by itself, and I've decided to instead spend this time implementing the improvement in the other Sonic run, so this can be set back to "accepted".

Overall, I dislike it. It makes that information on the side seem like a side note rather than important information. I do think linking to submission instructions is helpful, though.

I don't understand what you're getting at. Did I use "precision" at a wrong time? Either way, the two have a 1-to-1 correspondence. If you're going to split hours up into minutes, and minutes into seconds, why not seconds into frames? It is a used format of hh:mm:ss:ff, for example in movie (not TAS movie, but motion picture movie) recording, each still is measured to the frames (with 30 fps). I'd say it's established. Some of my movie times' seconds have also changed; did the site round up/down/nearest before?

I think measuring hundredths of a second is a bad idea. We aren't measuring hundredths of a minute because we have a more precise measurement: seconds. Why should we measure hundredths of a second when we have a more precise measurement of frames available?

Why yes, Randil, I think a four player TAS of this game would be an excellent idea.

As far as I know, you have to jump continually or you'll lose the speed.

Short version: Saturn's right. I'll try saying it a different way: if you morph too far above ground, then mockball won't start. However, if you hold jump when you do land, then you'll keep speed and bounce (if you have spring ball), but you won't be able to control the jump's height. In this case, you have not actually done the mockball - you just may think you have since you are keeping speed in ball form, but in this case you can't control your jump height. To see if you've done mockball, do not jump at all when morphing into the ball, and see if you keep your speed in morph ball form along the ground, or if you do a low bounce and lose your speed. If that doesn't work, watch the existing run on SNES9x and compare it to what you're doing to see what you might be doing wrong. But if you can't control the jump amount, then you aren't doing the mockball right.

It's an improvement in one specific level, and it does use glitches.

Please hold off on this publication. Upthorn has found a substantial improvement which must be added to this run, and a few levels will need redoing as a result (but most will be hex-edited back into place). Should be done around the new year.

Please hold off on this publication. I've searched several places for possible improvements, all which were dead ends except for SY3. I will improve it and hex-edit the rest of the run together, sometime around the new year. I'm not sure if it will improve the game timer or not for that level, but I might as well improve it.

I don't know which one off the top of my head. Just try them sequentially after jumping to that platform. Or, you could download SNES9x.

I'm not sure what else to say about that part. If you're having trouble still, you can watch my run in frame-advance and turn controller input on to see specifically when I press each button to get through that part.

That part's tricky, it won't always work. You have to start pumping from a specific frame, and you still won't clear the third one (it requires a small jump, or using the morph ball). Edit: You'll see on my 100% run that I wait a bit before arm-pumping, and this is the reason why.

Surprisingly entertaining. I thought for sure this game would make a boring TAS. Good variation of using the scope, not using the scope, and different types of movements between shots. And of course everyone's favorite part... :D

It's actually a very sought-after property. VBA continuous frame advances for me.

mwl, it's sad that you take a condescending attitude toward the site when its decisions don't agree with what you find to be entertaining, be it this run's rejection, or your fascination with Ocarina of Time. It's one thing to complain and offer suggestions in hopes of improving what we have here, but it's quite another to make unconstructive remarks. If you think there would be an audience for a site that hosts the videos that the community here doesn't find entertaining enough to publish, then feel free to take steps toward making that a reality.

Where did the illusion come from that it's trivial to find an extra frame near the end of all the movies here?
