These are my feelings with encoding aside. It's probably apparent by now that I actually am not the least bit interested in the encoding and publication side of this site - except for the fact that the focus on it affects other operations around here. Note: I do realize I'm in the vast minority when I say that I'd prefer the site without AVIs. Obsoletion percentage / different author bullshit: This has been argued over and over, I don't feel like stating my points yet again. The short version is: No I wouldn't care if all my runs got obsoleted tomorrow, yes I'm serious, and I'm glad people like Sleepz get pissed off and leave because of it, because playing for ego is absolutely retarded on this site.

Nach, no, I wouldn't care. If someone puts that much time into it, then hats off to them. That's the way TASing goes and anyone who gets mad otherwise is just bitching because they want their name to be plastered on the movies page. If that's your motivation, that's sad.

Homer: "He's drinking the water!" Laughing_gas, your comment works both ways, as demonstrated by Zurreco quoting many many people feeling the other way, since entertainment is subjective. Also, I should really post less, because Zurreco always sums my thoughts up concisely and hilariously. Props.

Quoted from the Guidelines page: "Just because a game is popular, difficult, or is entertaining to play or run or TAS, does not necessarily mean that it is entertaining to watch." It's a handy page, you should read it some time.

AKA, still wondering what your point was with this statement: "JXQ, N64 runs are generally more time consuming to make becuase greater thought is required between savestates." Reply requested, thanks.

AKA, please PM me to discuss payment options over my Sonic 1 improvement, thanks.

Or, maybe this is just a bad game for TASing. :O Edit: AKA, what's your point? Just because a game is hard or entertaining to TAS doesn't mean it's entertaining to watch. Check the Guidelines page.

Angerfist, it is an existing phenomenon, though. Perhaps not explicitly mentioned in this thread, but there is a trend that N64 runs are getting lots of attention. Maybe because people want something new, maybe because the site is gaining popularity more recently, maybe because the Guidelines haven't been read completely, or are read and ignored, or are in the waves of an upcoming change, or maybe because they really are entertaining. However, here's an example of what Brushy was talking about. "Voting yes purely out of the need for more N64 action" Based on recent trends and some of these types of voting motives, I'm inclined to agree with Brushy's claim.

Yo. I pasted some stuff after the end of a movie, and it didn't update the frame count. This is important in SMV format at least (FCM and VBM too, I believe) because even if there is existing data past that frame number in SMV, the movie will still stop playing.

What I don't understand is why there are such strong comparisons to the real-time run. TAS's aren't meant to be compared to them; they are a league their own. Just because the real-time runs are fast, and this is a little faster / higher scoring, doesn't mean this makes it entertaining by default. Seriously!! Check many of the fighting game submissions and threads - this isn't something new.

Being obsoleted by someone is just the way TASing goes. People who don't like that fact have left over it. Perhaps they shouldn't have been here in the first place if they were to get so upset over an obsoletion. Play for entertainment, not ego.

I heard an unofficial term for four-in-a-row was a headbanger. But I learned this in sixth grade, from some stupid sixth grader, so it's probably false.

It is a nice improvement, and I know you had fun doing this run. Congratulations on the acceptance. Despite it being faster, there are parts that I feel could be more entertaining, but part of me wonders if I'm just used to the old way I did things. Misty Star World in particular was different than before, but had some waiting times that were lacking any sort of command of the situation. Some parts of the level seemed like they could have been done in real time. Granted, it is really a chore trying to find something to do for each part of that level. I do remember experiencing similar problems in my early submissions of this run. Technique comes with experience, and you have definitely come a long way from your first WIPs in the Super Mario World thread. If you are interested in other games, I encourage you to give them a try with TASing. I vote yes on this, but it's very borderline meh. (I also will work on another version to this run at some point, but not right now or in the near future.) Edit:

1) Wow, what a lame-ass "response". Way to miss the point that SNES has a different abbreviation that should be used according to your principles. 2) Funny how the things you have no good response to are not put on the forums. 3) See Xkeeper's edit. 4) Finished. Discussing things with you is hopeless. Feel free to come up with a witty retort on IRC that I'll never see.

Thanks for the reference pictures, jimsfriend. There are other words on the Game Boy system as well, such as "Battery" and "Contrast". I now feel like an idiot for having a game boy all these years and never noticing the word "Contrast". That must be what Nintendo meant to call them. If no one believes me, I can whip up a quick png file to make it official. Any good Contrast games I should look into for TASing? Maybe Contrast 3: The Alien Wars. Eh? Eh? Groan.

I love how Nach posts that image like it's the end-all. In unrelated news, check out this official screenshot of an official document I officially found and totally didn't edit! Please don't respond to this post, Nach. Part of teaching us what you know is responding to why we think it is wrong, or could be better. People do this all the time when they acquire new knowledge. It doesn't mean they "choose not to learn." It means they aren't blindly following some document because it's official, despite the fact that it makes no sense and is very obscure and makes communication difficult (that's like the fifth time I've made that point, by the way) Instead, please spend that time responding to the following points that you have (intentionally?) ignored:

Don't you feel it hurts your credibility when you completely change your words in between posts like this though? I know I'd feel that way, and was just curious if we were on the same page on that issue.
Edit: I read things wrong and posted extra stuff that was incorrect. Removed. (I have the reading comprehension of a grapefruit, remember) Sorry about that

You have basically retyped what I've written, except with the perspective that you are here to enlighten the world of your correct views. The difference is that I see you as belittling others, where you see yourself as helping others. We can agree to disagree, but I hope you realize that this "teaching" you see yourself doing requires effective communication, a concept which you are completely ignoring - almost as much as the points brought up by others in this thread.

Hello, you can find how to use common VBA functions for TASing on the FAQ pages.

It's as if you purposefully use obscure terms just to cause this type of confusion. Communication with you is impossible as a result Hey, at least you're smarter than stupid ol' me! I don't even know what a Longhorn is LOLZ!!

Wow. So basically, you are saying "I'll communicate in the way that is easiest for me, and if others are confused, it's not my fault for using a term that is uncommon, it's the other person's fault because they don't understand what I typed."

Do you know what an acronym is? "A word formed from the initial letters of a series of words." DMG is not an ACRONYM for Game Boy, because Game Boy doesn't even have a D in it. And you're trying to say you don't treat these people like they are idiots?

Or, just link each instance of DMG to that giant picture on the first page. (Or, just use GB.)

Nach, regardless of official terms, I still say that the purpose of a forum is to convey ideas to each other. Your persistence on using a widely non-understood acronym is not helping this purpose. It seems you are more concerned with being "right" than communicating effectively. And DMG isn't an acronym for Game Boy, it's an acronym for Dot Matrix Game. I don't see DMG and Game Boy as interchangeable simply because DMG is the product code of Game Boy, unless, as I stated earlier, you are working in a warehouse and shipping codes matter. This is not the case.
