Regardless, you still don't have the right to treat people like idiots just because they don't know the knowledge you think they should. Your second-to-last post makes me think that you justify it. Just because they call it something different than you, doesn't mean they are ignorant of the subject at hand. (Many people here know a lot about many Game Boy games without knowing its product code) Let me ask you this: If DMG is how people should refer to it, why did Nintendo name and market it as the "Game Boy"?

Is it casually referred to as "DMG" in other countries that I'm not aware of? Everyone I have ever talked to about anything Game Boy has always referred to it as "Game Boy", "Game Boy Color", "Game Boy Advance (or GBA)". Or is this just a acronym to use when typing, not in conversation? I seriously don't follow the reasoning. Edit:

How could someone own a Gameboy for years and not notice it clearly says DMG on it?
Maybe they were too distracted by the giant "GAME BOY" logo.

A heretic? lol gmafb NEway... All I ask is that if you want to be so stubborn about using a confusing term, don't treat people like they are idiots when they don't know what it is. You have no right.

I had those same Nintendo Powers and I don't recall DMG once. But, as long as you can post that picture every time you use the abbreviation, it should be very clear your intentions. Also, convenient. Or you could just use GB. Bisqwit, the thread was started from elsewhere. I could just derail a submission thread next time, if you'd prefer.

For those who don't know, DMG stands for "Dot-matrix game", and is the product code of the original Game Boy. There are some here who are very insistent on the acronym's use when talking about the Game Boy. I think this is overly confusing and unneeded, and thought it should be discussed here. Here is the post (in a different thread) I am responding to:

That's people's fault for not knowing their acronyms.
You want to punish people for not knowing an abbreviation for Game Boy based on something as arbitrary and ridiculous as a product code? Give me a break. GB is recognized much more easily by the majority of people, especially when discussing games for the Game Boy. Who refers to anything by its product code, anyway? We aren't working in shipping warehouses, we're discussing ideas. Seems like the primary goal would be to effectively communicate what you are referring to, and using a acronym that others don't know (even if it's "their fault") is not conducive to that goal. I say it's best to avoid the acronym in order to keep things clear.

I'm going to respond to your comment in a thread in the off-topic section to avoid derailment.

Two things, the second of which is slightly off-topic: (1) I don't see the attraction of multi-game TASing myself, but more importantly, it shouldn't become a standard of judging single-game TAS's. Not to say that is what has happened here, but it could easily lean that way at some point. A single game TAS should be treated as such, and same with dual/multi-game TAS's - don't compare them to each other. With comparison brought in, we could reject all multi-game TAS's by saying the individual games' TAS's are more precise...but that's the whole point. (2) Said it before and I'll say it again - the only thing that the term DMG does is needlessly confuse people.

mikwuyma: It didn't appear that you were holding R. You were instead jumping to aim up and right, and in mid-air you were going to the right and then had to steer back left in midjump. Or during the part where the ship flies overhead - to shoot something you kept holding up-left to shoot, without holding R, because you were also moving to the left, and you kept moving to the right afterwards to avoid careening into whatever it was you were shooting. Maybe you were holding R in mid-air, I don't remember how the aiming works then :)

Aww Jasmine and Aladdin look so cute on the magic carpet. Too bad they skipped the part where she TOTALLY GAVE IT UP TO HIM. A lot of controller-input music playing and such, which was a very nice touch :) Also this game looks pretty tough to optimize with the way that cape thing is done. Vote yes.

The submission actually just links to the official forum thread about the hack on Sonic 2 Beta. If you happen to find the ROM there, well then, that's a neat coincidence, because we're not allowed to link to ROMs here at TASvideos ;)

RAM search compared previous value (the value at the last "check" of the RAM search) to the current value, and then updates the previous values to the current values. By "different value", maybe you meant the "different from" or "different by" radio buttons. These can be used to narrow your search. For example, if the value you are looking for is something that you are pretty sure has changed between "previous value" and "current value" you can select "different from" and then click the search button. Or, if you are pretty sure it increased or decreased, you can select a different search constraint and further close in on your value. Oh, also: DDRKhat, shut up and stop being an ass.

Tried a different strategy, and it indeed was 20 frames faster. Could be even further improvement there. Good eye! And thanks for the careful watching, ZeXr0. However, I will save this and other possible improvements for a second version someday, or for someone else to obsolete.

I'm not sure which part you are referring to, but near the beginning is played a little strange because you can't glide above the screen. I also couldn't get Knuckles to make it to the slanted platform without jumping (and thus, losing a lot of the spin dash speed). If there's a different part, let me know. Give me the in-level time so I'm sure which part you're talking about. :)

Mikwuyma: I just watched your console run the other day, and I had a question about it. Was there a reason you didn't hold R to remain stationery while shooting up at an angle (in level 4, or at the final boss for example), or does it make it harder to shoot rapidly, or did you just not know about it at the time?

I have no problem with a "no" vote. But I, and everyone else who submits runs, probably agrees that it's a disservice to vote no (or yes) without watching a run. Even if you would have voted no after having watched it, it still does matter because you're not able to answer the voting question if you haven't watched it. In the future, you may want to make sure you only vote after watching the run, and vote on the run's entertainment factor rather than the journey you had looking for the ROM. I have trouble believing you didn't already know this because you've been registered here longer than I have. Anyway, sorry you didn't like this one; glad you liked the other one. Thanks for the input. Hollers.

If you do need to resubmit for another improvement, you could PM the file to Bisqwit and ask him to replace this movie file. I think this is actually encouraged - that way you could keep the discussion in one place, and the submissions number down a bit.

I wasn't personally attacking you for it. Like I said, I haven't watched it. I heard that it was improvable (specifically, with some walking paths) it on IRC from a few different people shortly after it was published. I was surprised to hear it myself.

Kitsune, if this run is boring to you, maybe you'd enjoy watching the Sonic run more. However, I encourage you to at least watch it before voting no. Thanks.

the optimal pacifist kills (I beat the video I was studying by ~1 second for each pacifist kill); I got 2 seconds on Pikachu and Metal Mario; BtT and BtP were done in record time; Samus fight; all the Team fights, with perfect cutter placements; the masterhand hand fight. Those are all impossible to replicate the way I did in real time.
So...everything is not possible in real-time? Are the videos you were studying the pacifist kills from real-time, or also tool-assisted?

Not a problem. Don't forget to uncancel this submission, too :) (You can do that at the same place you canceled it)
