He draws something in tribute of a site and look at the response he gets. Some of you guys are jackasses. (I thought it was very clever)

I disagree. If one person were to use "standard" tools and achieve the same time as someone who used more advanced tools, I don't think one is more technically perfect than the other. By that logic, early videos that didn't even have frame advance capabilities should be rated less simply because of that. If the tools are really that impressive and useful, it will show because someone that doesn't have those tools won't have much of a chance of matching the time of the one with the more advanced tools. No need for a double penalty.

Some questions: I wonder if you could take damage in level 1 better to save mroe time. For instance, take hits by the hamburger looking things instead of earlier, because the hamburgers take a lot of time to wait for to move. Level 2 boss, how come you hit him once sometimes and twice others? Around 24500, you transform to the mouse for a very short period. Does this save time when the 2 pause screens are factored in? It looked like you took two hits around 29000, one while a mouse and one while normal, then later you have to avoid damage. Instead maybe you could have transformed to normal earlier and take only one hit. If left+right is the glitch to fall through platforms, how are you supposed to fight the last boss?

I did, must have been differing lag.

I couldn't get it to sync either. Sorry dude :( Not that it's fun to hear, but it's good to make backups and test them occasionally (after every level or couple levels) to avoid this kind of thing. Anyway, 8 frames faster, way to go! If you've got your numbers written down from last time, you can refer to them and maybe gain even more time on me.

I'm voting yes. This TAS is just all-around very well done.

This FCM doesn't start from reset, which is why the site probably rejected it. I've had this problem several times, FCM being the retarded child that it is. I threw in a reset at the beginning and it synced through, so this fcm should be accepted by the site, if I did things right. This movie was entertaining at 6400% speed.

I looked at both of your fcm files and I really can't find anything that looks like it might be pieceable together. If you can redo that very first room and get it to fade out on the exact same frame (hopefully that's written down?), I can try to take the rest of your newer movie and hex-edit it onto the end, and hope for the best. Looks like it happened somewhere from 1332-1339. (I love Bisqwit's FCM Parser. I do not love FCM.)

Hahahaha I can't believe I missed this post earlier! I'm sure 90% of viewers are wondering the same thing.

I'm getting a desync pretty quickly, on FCEU 0.98.16. Edit: Oh you noticed too. I'm not sure what would have caused the desync, but if you play your movie, and load one of your good savestates like you were to continue recording, that could fix the movie.

In the same way that using more advanced tools such as bots is not less interesting, entertaining, or seemingly less optimal to me in regards to the finished product, it is not more interesting, entertaining, or seemingly optimal to me either. I think the methods used to create a TAS are irrelevant on both ends of the spectrum.

That movie only plays the first world for me. Do you have Excel? I have a spreadsheet here I put together that could help you. The values on the list are the first frame the screen is completely black for each door entered. As you enter values in the column next to it, the green columns will indicate how much time you've gained or lost in that room. Entering these values as you do the run can help you pinpoint where you might be having problems along the way. I filled in the first world for you, you're only 223 frames behind, not 700. Here's some tips that might help:
  • Change direction as little as possible. Every time you change direction, you pause for a couple frames (unless you're charging a shot). So if you need to go down diagonally, then down some more, do the diagonal all at once, and the down all at once, don't zig-zag unless you need to.
  • Move as little as you need to. If you have to navigate a corridor with several twists in it, think of having a string from the entrance to the exit, and pull it as tight as you can. Try to follow that path, when the UFO ability allows it.
  • Avoid using anything but the laser if you can. The beam obviously causes lag, but the single star can also do this (though not to the same extreme). There are some cases where a single star will still save time due to its slower speed - you can shoot it and let it hit an enemy later while you're charging up lasers to fire at the same time.
  • Enemies that don't move in ways you don't want them to can be manipulated by trying stuff differently at an earlier point, or perhaps entering the door in the previous room just a bit later. Spark and fire guys that do their attacks can cause lots of lag.

Both of those songs aren't fitting for a single thing. He must love Andre's whiny "singing". I'M I'M I'M just being honest

I don't know anything about how to beat him, but it's tough to get bored in less than 40 seconds, so it's got a thumbs up from me.

I don't know much about MK3 except that apparently it has worse graphics and sound than MK2.

It does sound like it, and I was hopeful (as the spindash is added), but it really just fails in too many aspects. The sound is bad when compared to the original. This is surprising since the original was on Genesis, which usually suffers in the sound department (though Sonic games are a gigantic exception to this rule). The game lags. A LOT. And I dont' just mean when you get hit (with lots of ring sprites bouncing). The physics are laughable. You can be moving foward, and jump too late to clear a ledge or rock or whatever, and once your height passes it, sonic continues to move forward at top speed. I've only played the first zone, so there may be better things (or worse things) than these I've noticed so far. (Theg arbage is a running joke from our dear friend XPengiun) Witness theg arbage for yourself with this partial extremely unoptimized lag-filled not-going-to-finish TAS! Hmm, I guess this should be moved into the GBA forum...my bad.

Awesome awesome awesome job gocha! I wrote down levels I particularly enjoyed, though I doubt I remember them now: 3.3 3.4 5.5 5.8 6.5! 8.5 8.8 EXTRA 2.6 4.6! 6.6 7.2 7.4 8.3 8.7 This is a very different movie and it may be a good candidate for a star.
