Question: can you somehow decide which "direction" to crouch warp in? Or will I just be warping twice to get from the Cavern to the Entrance?

I just noticed the AVI to this run is 6 megs larger than the previous version. I don't know if this is supposed to be or not, I don't really know my AVI quality at all, nor can I spot graphical differences unless they are major.

Heh, I've already beat it on TAS, which is enough for me. :D But you're right, Super Metroid has a lot of techniques that are better understood with some TASing knowledge of the game. Besides the mockball, there's the short charge, and I also figured out exactly which buttons to press in what order to make the zooooooooooom go diagonal or horitontal. I could presumably also do the zebetite skip. I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting. To try and not derail this into Metroid, I think I could do a little better at Sonic 1 now on console, as well, though I've never given that a serious effort. Things like "holding forward when going too fast will slow you down", and such. (Also, SuperMetroidTricks needs some updating.)

That 1:21 was pretty neat, that is, if you like watching the pause screen for three minutes.

After TASing Super Metroid, I was able to finally do the mockball on console because I understood better which buttons needed to be pressed when.

Confused..

JXQ posted, possibly reading my shot (that was now shown in upthorn's post) as Upthorn's and Upthorn's shot (shown at movies page) as mine (because of mandatory contrast)
Hydrocity 2 I thought was Bisqwit's screenshot, but is nitsuja's. Angel Island 1 I thought was upthorn's screenshot. Was Bisqwit's Mushroom Hill 2? I also didn't like the Hydrocity one because the colors in it are so bland due to the water. I picked Launch Base because there are many colors on the screen, and all three characters are on screen, two of them in interesting poses. Other levels I personally like the colors of include Sandopolis 1 and Ice Cap, but Ice Cap zone is pretty much useless for a screenshot (though the above one is nice). I don't think the screenshot doesn't need to show a glitch or some TASing aspect, because you watch the movie for that. If you want to show a glitch then an animated gif is much more appropriate in most situations. Then we could have Ice Cap zone flying by, giving me a headache. Edit: of NrgSpoon's, I like 037.

Or I could take the pessimistic approach and say that 30 frames of improvement could easily throw off randomness later and cost me more time than I've saved!

Of Hydrocity 2? There's nothing going on in that shot.

So this movie is pretty alright. I like how every boss kill is celebrated with a suicidal plunge down a skyscraper with fifty of your ninja buddies, except they aren't buddies because you are commanded to SHOOT ALL NINJAS!! It reminds me of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, without the sad irony.

Never fear, for I have recorded your moment of glory in this screenshot! I also accidentally left blank white space at the bottom of this screenshot!

Finally? What was it, three days? So I guess the improvements won't be going in this version.

Well, it was my first TAS, so that's my excuse. As for my excuse back when I had the game for NES and finished it? ... And drew out a map of it? ... And put together a little stapled guide of it for fun? ... If I ever get a new phone, I will record the music to the title screen and make it my phone ringer. In fact, I almost want to get a new phone now which has that capability.

uhhh... I'd like to ask... why didn't you do this? Is sliding faster than that??
Because I'm aiming for fastest time except those two rooms. Sliding is faster than dashing in most cases but whiplaunching in those two spots could have saved me 18 + 10 frames. I didn't think of it because I didn't take into account how high up the two platforms were. Usually that type of whip launch isn't faster than the diving kick. Edit:

That's true, I am awesome. Edit Jr: I also recognized another one of their songs yesterday from my downstairs neighbors just by the bassline. Unfortunately Don't Phunk With My Heart has a much less obvious Castlevania reference. Holy FUCK I'm awesome.

Max Slimer dead. Link updated. OgreSlayeR's book-launch came in handy in the pendulum room.

I bet he couldn't beat SMB3 by more than 3 seconds either WHAT A LAMER.

While that does save 4 frames, there are other places where a book can save much more. The problem is knowing when it's enough time-saving to warrant a use of the sub-item! It would save more at the save point, since there is more room to take advantage of the increased momentum.

I did a run of this game because I thought it would be fun to optimize. Also, I like making maps. I didn't even realize it was on the list of ideas until a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't particularly break my heart if the run got rejected, because I already got my satisfaction out of it. I just thought I'd give it a chance to see if it was worth publishing.

I thought 9 was the default transparency toggler. That's what I did for the top of Big Boo's Tower.

Please, PLEASE tell me this was a derailment of another topic that was moved, and not a thread made to specifically berate P_S over something so incredibly trivial, in what could have easily been a private message. Pirate, if you make your post do something like this:

It won't automatically refer: http://www.website.com
