JXQ, it is OK to pitch ideas of how a concept demo could (or should) be defined, but saying it the way you did will cause Bisqwit to ignore you completely.
What, to spite me? If that's the case, then it's his loss (and immature). I actually care about things much less than I pretend to, but this is a good way to drive a point home (even if some think I'm being mean about it). If that's not the case, then I still think it should be addressed. Ignoring this is silly because it would help reduce these repeated, circular discussions on the forum, the same discussions which said admin has become annoyed by himself, moved around, locked, and so forth. So, the longer it's ignored, the longer this silliness will take place.

WOW. Let me walk you through the point of that post. NONE of those examples should be concept demos. I listed them because they are all things some people have said at one point or another as what they believe concept demos to be. Confusion that has been caused because Bisqwit hasn't addressed the issue. By listing these things, I was attempting to draw attention to the fact that since there is no agreed definition, people will start making it fit whatever the hell they want, and claim that certain movies should go into this category. If I can clear anything else up, let me know. And if there is anything else you think you should scold me for, feel free to waste your time doing that, thanks.

No doubt. It's almost as if I'm annoyed that all this bickering could be solved by Bisqwit addressing what a concept demo is, but instead he doesn't, so then I make posts that continue to point out this issue, which causes you to think you're a moderator that needs to tell me how to behave. WEIRD.

Thanks moderator. Let me know if there's a definition for concept demo floating around that I'm not aware of.

This is disgusting. You are relentlessly unfair to these poor Sonic games. I hardly recognized some of the levels. (These are good things)

I think this should be published alongside the other run but not replacing it. Concept demos are more movies with strange goals rather than strange methods aren't they?
Aren't they? Who knows?? Certainly not any of us!!! What the hell is a concept demo???? Hacked game????? Starting from SRAM?????? A really short game??????? A run that isn't "normal"???????? A run that sucks but for some reason is published anyway????????? A way to publish four different movies of the same game without someone complaining?????????? Accomplishing something that nobody accomplished before??????????? Accomplishing something that nobody even dreamed of, creating something novel, new???????????? (What's the fucking difference?????????????) Let's keep speculating ourselves without receiving an answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually don't assign the hotkeys to the controller as well. The reason is because there aren't enough buttons for me to assign them all to the controller, so I would end up using the keyboard for some anyway. It also puts a nice distinction in my mind - for things the game normally does, I use the game's normal button on the controller. For the TAS aspect, I have a secondary device which is "above" the normal control of the game, so to speak. Frame advance: Backslash Pause: Enter Speed up: Equals Speed down: Minus Speed 100%: Backspace Fast-Forward: Tab Load State: 0 through 9 Save State: Shift-0 through Shift-9 Read-only Toggle: Shift-F8 I switch the loading and saving to number keys instead of F-keys because the F-keys on my laptop, which I sometimes TAS on, are really really small. Thanks for the support everyone! :')

Is this too short to have a point of doing it as short as possible? I don't get it.
AKA probably found a couple minutes of improvement, and he's waiting to dazzle us with it.

We can throw around definitions all day but it's up to Bisqwit which published runs become concept demos and which ones don't. That's why I think it would be helpful for him to define it, or even better, place it on an appropriate part of the FAQ.

"Concept demo" is today's undefined, confusing, trouble-making, arbitrary buzzword(s). Note that using a particular version (J) shouldn't make it a "concept demo" because Rygar's glitched warp (E) is not in the concept demos section. Very few movies are actually there, which I think is good. I also haven't seen this run yet, cuz I can't find the stupid ROM. Edit ---- A little birdie helped me locate the ROM. This is neat! I wonder why the -1 world is so different in the FDS version. I especially liked the zombie princesses scattered throughout. I vote yes, but I think this should be placed alongside the current SMB run rather than obsoleting it. (And not in the concept demos section...ugh)

Well if that's the case then just wait until a full run of HoD is finished and use that SRAM, or at least test it with it. Still waiting for that definition of concept demo...

No one knows what a concept demo is supposed to be because Bisqwit hasn't explicitly defined it. It will continue to be ambiguous until he addresses that definition. I have explained it to others as "a different box to put movies in that are outside the box". Edit: I personally don't think this belongs in the concept demos section. If the game was programmed to not need completion before accessing Maxim, it would be the same movie with a blue title screen.

I think pirate only does runs that start from SRAM :) It's nice to skip the way-too-long introduction of the game (which is around twice as long as this run). *recalls Aria of Sorrow's obsoletion situation* Should I stop working on my run now? ;)

It was a day like any other, dancing through the nuances of a tool-assisted speedrun. Today's was Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. I was preparing to slide when I realized my buttons weren't registering. Obviously Windows was doing something idiotic. After a few uninstalls and reinstalls of the driver, I began to rethink this claim. I tried my other PS2->USB adapter, still with no luck. Finally, I tried another PS controller, and... it worked. I regret to inform everyone that my trusty Performance PS1 controller, which I have used on every TAS I've done so far (except Smash TV), has been called for its time. I especially liked the D-pad on this controller. Very easy to press, and clear which direction I was pressing in (unlike standard PS controllers). Rest In Peace, buddy!

You can manipulate big hearts off of enemies, but it's usually easier just to take them from candles. There aren't a huge amount of places that are long enough to benefit from using an extra subweapon boost anyway.

Another question for those more educated than I: Is there a good spot to get the holy book back before Max Slimer? I ask because I'm thinking of grabbing the knife, so that it only takes one heart to extend my whiplaunch instead of three.

Although I disagree with the relevance of Super Metroid's in-game timer (for TAS purposes, anyway), I do think it's a good idea for SDA to use it, because it's part of the game's hardware, and so can be trusted as accurate (by its rules anyway), similar to using the frame count when we do a run here. Any other timing mechanism would involve timing the recorded video, and it seems like it would be possible to either mess that up, or tamper with it (by speeding up the video perhaps? Eh, maybe that's not as feasible as I first thought).

and a longer video can actually have a smaller counter at the end, which doesn't make too much sense.
This is probably what I like least about the in-game timer.

1) What the hell does this have to do with anything? 2) It surprised me how many people thought the Genesis version of MK1 was better because of blood. Kind of sad. The SNES has better graphics, better sound, and better control, and the Genesis has blood. I personally don't care about Smoke, but if you're going to fight Jade then you should probably fight Smoke as well. Does it put you at Kintaro afterwards, or just at the next battle?
