I guess the "sexiest" glitch would be Super Metroid's mockball for me.

I don't think most games have the original source code available, just the disassembled version.

There's no way that hitting all the plungers will take more than 10 minutes more than the normal run when optimized. UFO can use laser to light the cannons, and can use the double star to break through most of the blocks. There will be more switching for sure, but close to 36 more minutes? No way.

I didn't get a casual wear drop, or think of it, or knew it existed. My play was compared to your first version (I don't have a copy of your second version). I'm behind your second version by 31 frames. Your sentences use many words I'm not familiar with from this game. I really don't know what I'm doing at this point. Frown. I also failed a certification exam today. It's not my day.

I haven't watched this yet (I'm at work), but thank you, and feel free to continue to find time savers for me :) I'm not as educated about this game as I should be. I studied Kaz's route pretty closely today and have absolutely no ideas for improvement. I do have a couple questions, since it's been so long since I played this game: 1) What do the levitation boots do that are manipulated? Are they better/worse than or even similar to the super jump? 2) What weapon goes with the lightning book to get the Gradius shield? And when's a good time to grab this weapon? I've done up to the room after the Lizard Tail and I'm somewhere around 15 frames ahead. Still learning though. I'll have to see if I can beat Kaz's improvement up to the first key warp by more than 235 frames.

Wow, I haven't felt this far in the minority since I started doing rap music.

I'm considering doing a run that doesn't get the five Vlad parts and the best ending. I haven't decided for sure, but I'm basing it on the fact that all it does is make the run longer, which isn't typically a good thing unless it's also bringing something new. I don't think an extra boss fight would qualify. Thoughts?

At a certain height below platforms like that, running into the edge of them sideways will automatically put you on top of them. You just need to make sure that you are high enough to make the trick work, and far enough to the side to not be on the platform currently. qfox: What on Earth makes you think 100% would be twice as long? I would guess 5-8 minutes longer at the most to hit all the plungers.

kirbymuncher, I have an excel spreadsheet with all my completion frames of each room, if you'd like, although it won't be directly comparable at every room if you're doing 100%. PM me if you're interested.

Well at least I have this to look forward to! In memory searching news, I have it narrowed down to only 3000ish memory locations as long as my assumption is right! Meaning I think I will not search for this anymore, and learn mechanics of the game more specifically instead.

Even if I found the address I'd still get the Soul Orb, because I really like seeing critical after critical after critical. I just thought it might cut down on the amount of tries it would take to normally get it. Oh well, I'll keep researching.

I've yet to test that far. I'm currently getting used to frame search, and spent some time trying to find the memory location that determines critical hits (with no success so far). I have a feeling it will be your route, but I'll let you know if I have any different ideas to see what you think of them.

I'm getting ready to start this run, for real this time. Currently I'm just messing around with the game, emulator, and looking for random memory locations, re-familiarizing myself with the game, and so forth. I have a busy weekend, but next week I should hopefully start making some progress.

It was directed toward AKA, not you atro_city. I also noticed that if I put an underscore in your name where it doesn't belong, that there is a face in the middle of your name! o_ci

My apologies, I didn't intend to de-rail this thread into "look how awesome my glitch is" posts. I really like several of the NES BattleToads glitches, like walking up half of level 8, and killing the boss early in level 10.

Flagitious + mrz are working on it currently, I believe. But if they give up, or they complete it and miss a timesaver somewhere, then perhaps I will :)

I discovered it, so I'm probably biased, but I really like keyjumping from SMW.

Alrighty, the new version is finished and this submission was updated. New things to notice are:
  • Getting the UFO instead of spark in 5.2 where kirbymuncher specified (saved 6 seconds)
  • Already having UFO in 5.3, so no need to mix at the wheels (saved 10 seconds)
  • Better boss behavior in World 6 (saved 4.5 seconds)
  • Noticing a speed change bug in 5.3 and 7.3 after UFOing up an incline (saved 2 seconds)
  • Improved block room in 7-1 (saved 1 second)
  • Improved final boss strategies (saved 1 second)
The rest of the improvement (2.5 seconds) was just better luck overall with lag. Nearly every room had lost or gained time, but the overall result was better this time around. Thanks to everyone for the votes and posts!

Thanks again for the comments, everyone. :) I really like that I'm getting responses along the lines of "I don't like hip-hop, but I like this." Makes me feel like I did a really good job. gamedirector, I'm curious if you listen to much other hip-hop? I comparatively cuss quite a bit less.

Some areas with no power are interesting to watch because of sliding and keeping momentum by jumping, and dodging so many enemies. But like any type of run with this game, it will get repetitive due to the length.

Some tests: Stone in 5.1 is slower by the end of 5.1. It may make up by using on the hammer boss in 5.2, except that kirbymuncher's idea makes that unnecessary. Taking UFO in that spot in 5.2 saves a total of 16 seconds. I'll go ahead and re-finish the last half of the game, hopefully lag and luck will be on my side enough to keep all of this saved time and perhaps find a bit more. Since this will be the only difference, I won't cancel this and instead will just give Bisqwit the updated file when it's completed to swap out of this submission. Now I'm glad I made that excel spreadsheet of all my level times :)
