You could re-record from your initial mix and just take UFO instead, and continue from there.

Okay, this is over 200 frames faster than my World 1 WIP. Personally I think this strategy would make the run fun to watch, and it completely changes the way the game it TASed. Your progress is much improved, but still has room for further improvement. It's important to only use the weapons you need to use in order to reduce lag. So killing enemies should probably be tested more thoroughly. And you should probably avoid the weakest UFO shot (the beam) whenever possible as it's the weakest, and tends to cause the most lag. Also, your mixing in your previous example was much better than your latest example.

Your inital mix for tornado is faster than any I've seen so far. I think that this may be a competitive strategy (versus tornado) if the same place is used to mix for UFO after the first level is finished. Edit: Posted before I saw your last post. Watching new progress now.

Bisqwit, what do you mean by that animated gif? Morrison takes a shortcut there at the beginning by getting hit by the skeleton.

Just watched this, and was thoroughly entertained. I'm most surprised by how fast these animal pals can move, with the exception of that retarded Snake. I also really liked the way you played with the barrels in the third level that requires 15 Kremcoins.

Yeah, how strange - it's almost as if I noted some things about a subset of the community and made a claim about its influence on the future of said community. You might even get real wacky and say I based it on the following trends: (1) The popularity of this game rather than its TASing potential dominating this ever-inflating thread (2) Increasing interest in N64 tool-assistance (cut-scenes anyone?) (3) Increasing general popularity of this site, which brings the increased possibility of people turning to this site when SDA isn't bringing them their shiny new run fast enough I guess it wasn't as obvious as I thought. IMAGINE THAT.

The day that this site becomes SDA's little tool-assisted bitch will be a sad day. And that's where it's headed.

I believe that demanding TAS runners to sacrifice time intentionally for "entertainment" is an insult to the dedicated team of SDA researchers who worked so hard to slice OoT's necessary completion time in half over the last six months or so.
Here's the perceived attitude I don't understand. Those SDA researchers can be (and should be) proud of the tricks they have discovered, but it doesn't make sense for them to take offense if someone here does a tool-assisted run in a way that they don't prefer. Perhaps Guano agrees with you, in which case you have nothing to worry about. If he didn't, and did sacrifice some time for ideas such as this, then the solution would be for someone else from SDA who's priorities match yours to make their own TAS. I haven't seen the super-slide yet so I'm not sure how that looks. It definitely sounds cooler than back-walking, though.

mwl, it's you who doesn't get it. This isn't SDA + tools. This is a completely different website. I know all these new people popped up from SDA once your precious Zelda started getting worked on, everyone offering their mighty opinions and ideas. But you should really check out the purpose of this site, specifically the Why and How page. Your type of complaints belong on SDA, not here. Arguing to take the less entertaining route at the cost of a negligible amount of time would normally bring you very few backers. This case is an exception because, well, this thread is pretty much isolated from the rest of the site. I'm curious as to how many frames are lost each time this new technique is used. I think what bugs me the most is the attitude that most people on the thread seem to have - just because it's a Zelda game, it's automatically entertaining!! How DARE anyone say otherwise! You know what I'd really like? I'd like to hear Guano's opinion on these various issues. He isn't required to give them, as we can see what he does by watching the run progress. But we certainly don't need you talking for him. If you do the TAS, then you choose how to do it, and then you can do it for "the other folks from the SDA OoT discussions".

A great first submission by you, parrot14green. Give me a grappling hook, and I'm in love with it. I don't know why, it's just the way it is. When you put a submission text in, be sure to not make it very long or informative in any way, or people will bitch about that, too. BUBBLY CRABLOS!! Edit: Upon completion, I noticed the movie does not press enough buttons to advance to the ending. This should be fixed.

This is very entertaining for me. The amount of luck manipulation is comparable to an early RPG, but without the boring factor. Plus the game is goofy and the music is all over the map (literally).

You don't want to change something that will save seconds, but you are against backwalking that has the camera facing forward which costs mere frames?

I don't usually keep track of rerecords per section. But I bet I spent a ton (1000-1500) before I was able to get Super Demo World's Pipe World 4 message box shortcut work.

I'm of the opinion that the less tags are used to sufficiently explain the movie, the better. And this bullshit loophole is ridiculous, I don't know why it's being brought up. You could easily argue that you didn't actually die because you didn't complete the death spin, or because the death count didn't increment. But in the end it's all irrelevant semantic nonsense that only drives the original point of this discussion into the ground instead of advancing it.
