I had an interview yesterday and I took a small written exam with several riddle-like questions on it. For example, one said "You have two coins which add up to 55 cents. One of them is not a nickel. What are the two coins?" I won't spoil the answer for those who haven't seen this. There is only one I couldn't figure out, and I wonder if someone here will. Jon finished building his house, but decided there was something more he needed. He went to the department store and found what he was looking for. The clerk said "one for $1." Jon replied "I took 600, so here's $3." What did he buy? I put an answer down, but it sure doesn't give me that "oh THAT'S what it is" feeling. Any ideas?

That's funny because he didn't get permission. Especially because every page says that youtube.com is expressly forbid from reproducing the content found here. I've contacted youtube, but I can only make a claim against those works I am the author of. Bisqwit could make a claim against them all, being the site adminstrator, or the individual authors could do so as well. Once I have an e-mail back from them, I'll post what happened here.

How do the percents in this game work? I was not aware that getting DK barrels lowered your percent.

I'm not sure why, but Zelda 100% does not appeal to me, even in just playing. As opposed to Metroid where I consider it more important than just finishing the game. I have no idea why this difference exists in my mind, but I think Bag's comment makes a point that "100%" is not perfectly defined within the constraints of the game, although there is a common accepted definition among the speedrunning communities.

Major bug with FCEU 0.98.16. "Power Blade 2 (U).nes" does not play at all. Just a gray screen. The same rom with 0.98.15 works fine.

andrewg: Here is adebis's finished test run. He was planning on improving it, but never did. So this would be a good estimate to the time you were wondering. Phil: It works with v7 and v9 (I didn't test v8). But the desync is most likely caused by having the wrong ROM. You need Super Mario All Stars + World to sync. Just Super Mario All Stars desyncs before the Lost Levels even gets started.

It isn't every day that a Genisto run is improved by 10 seconds. Plus this game is pretty charming. It's too bad the treasures are gone. But we have each other. And I suppose true friendship is all we really need for hap....oh shit my treasures are safe after all! Peace out nephew-ducks! I'M RICH BITCH!

You seem to understand how to make a tool-assisted movie. This is good. A while ago the first level of this game was put up for competition, and the winning entry (by Truncated) is here. There are several concepts about the game you don't utilize that could help you improve your time. For more information about the movie above, you can check its respective thread here. Hopefully you continue; you seem to have interest in this game! Also, you should check the forum rules. Your avatar is too big and your signature probably has size problems, too. Anyway, best of luck!

Dunno how precise you were on this tornado run... How long did it take you to create it anyways?
Well I did lots of planning for about a week a long time ago, which I still had. I spent about 3 days on the first world. I would guess it's not quite as precise as yours, but I also think using Tornado is easier to optimize than normal running, jumping, etc. And yes I think 2.5 will benefit more from the Hi-Jump than Tornado. The testing will begin soon!

So we compose a 30-60 second voice-over explaining what TAS videos are, how they're made, and the purpose for making them. Basically, a concise version of the HowAndWhy page. During this time, we show 5-10 second clips from some of the more popular videos, showing their most impressive moments; the first battle ship from Super Mario Bros. 3 comes to mind as an example. I'm not quite sure how to finish it... maybe with the tasvideos logo and the site URL.
I like this idea a lot.

I still think it's good practice to at least cite where the video's original copy was from if you are stealing it. Youtube's comment system works about as well as myspace's entire website.

http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=ThiefAlucard Here's a guy who has started posting lots of runs from here without explaining any of them. I've tried to leave him a message but youtube is being very cranky. I really don't know what to do about such activity, but I thought I would bring it to the community's attention. At the very least I think he should have links to each individual movie he steals.

I start faster by using a soft reset on Frame 5(?). This brings up the title screen faster. By your measurements, I am 93 (203 - 110 for soft reset) frames ahead after 1.3.1. If I got tornado in 1.3.2 instead, I would be tied with your run (at best), plus losing time here to mix, and I'd have the same power. So although it's slow looking to mix in 1.1.1, it is worth it over the next couple levels. I'm not sure what else to tweak. Walking to the first door is apparently faster (d'oh) and I also just found an example by Baxter that gets Tornado a bit faster than I do here. This game's optimization is not always very logical due to the lag, but I'm sure you know that. And I hope that other powers speed things up even if only for a few parts. Personally I think your run is more fun to watch, but I am enjoying making mine, so I think I will continue.

I remember I did a 92-exit game without switch palaces on console years ago because it sounded fun. It was.

There's no question that mwl has been helpful in the making of this TAS. For that I think he should receive the credit he deserves. However, when someone says they don't like something about the run, it's not a personal attack on mwl. He seemed to be acting defensive to it a few times. I just see questioning the voters reasons for voting as a destructive policy that discourages future voting.

Some things are opinions and can't be marked as true. For example, backwalking is faster, that's a fact. But is entertaining to watch? That's a matter of opinion, which is pointless to argue about. And for the record, I've always thought "n00b" was a stupid term that really doesn't convey anything except the attacker using a stupid term.

At least I don't resort to calling other forum users things like that.
