Interesting comparison video. Nice find toward the end where you pulled ahead for the win! In my experimentation on this (hellish) level, there was a very slight degree of randomness. Depending on when I arrived at an earlier place (I don't know exactly when, I just did pausing sometimes), I could make the platform appear on six different frames, I believe. I think xebra also mentioned a similar window for the moving walls near the beginning. The only question I have about the run is on the bonus stage you visit for Spring Yard 1. You seem to get hung up on several of the corners, is there a reason for this? Otherwise, nice work. I'm excited to see what improvements you find in the remaining levels.

I'm enjoying making this, but I don't think it's too fun to watch. What does everyone else think? 205 frames faster than nitsuja's tornado test run, and uses (U) (PRG0).

Strange wording. Are you saying that backwalking is 1.5X faster than normal walking? I don't know how to be 1.5X slower than something. And is it really necessary to chastize everyone who doesn't vote yes? The run is accepted, stop taking things personally.

Weird game. Does it remind anyone else of Deadly Towers? Not the most exciting game, but colorful and quick, plus a famtasia improvement, makes me vote my yes.

I always thought that calling it "flaming" was a retarded name.

This gets a yes vote from me. Very well played. The only thing I wonder is how necessary this run is, but it's definitely more entertaining to watch than the currently published Sypha run. (Warning: Excess wobbling may occur)

The Star Wars character I couldn't think of was Jar Jar Binks. (Jabu Jabu, Jar Jar...) I'm kinda bummed about the syncing. I tried to make myself a little (2 gig) avi to watch from so that I wouldn't have processor hiccups slowly moving me away from the flow of the movie, but the attempts failed. I also have a savestate at adult Link, as I watched much of the run again to see how well my commentary synced up, which was not too great. I plan on recording commentary to the second half next week (probably Friday). Hopefully I'll have an AVI by that point, so I can not only record the rest in sync, but go back and fix what I already have as well. Glad you guys enjoyed it! I took the shotgun approach - if I make enough jokes, some are bound to be funny!

This is the most uncertain I've been about how to vote. Good: Popular game, pretty good quality run. Very different looking from the current console speedrun (I'm not sure how different it would look from a console speedrun now). Bad: Loooong walks everywhere. Backwards walking doesn't allow for looking where one is used to looking. Some bad camera angles. Slight emulation problems (the pause one really bugs me). Personal annoyances: I still stand by my opinion that this shouldn't have been run this early. What started out as a test-run was submitted, and I think this was largely due to the new crowd that has poured in simply to work on Zelda to demand anything that was OoT. Soft resets could speed the game up and allow for different strategies, and apparently a few tricks were discovered during the run. Is Guanobowl still planning on doing a second run? There are over twenty-five other accepted runs in the queue, and instead, there are something like seven people trying to encode this. I think that's pretty ridiculous. Overall: I watched this up until Link became an adult, when I tried to save the state and instead reset the game by loading a state right at the beginning. Great, one hour of fast-forwarding to watch the rest. I also watched the Shadow and Spirit temples on AVI, so I've seen a good part of the run. Vote: Did you like watching this movie? At times. Many parts were boring, due to the nature of the game - mostly, talking and walking. The dungeons all had surprising tricks, but that's not enough to keep my interest for two and a half hours. I did record voice commentary to the first half of this run. I planned on recording it all, but as I stated above, I reset the game on accident, so I just quit. Probably for the better, because I was running out of things to say by the end. If I get the vest powerup again while I have it, the 2 hits are reset. So that may be what you're seeing (on the last level, I believe).

You probably wouldn't steal work off of the site, either.
I'd also like to point out that it was Halamantariel's tactful conversation that got our desired result--not the flames.
This is true. I guess I should revise myself to say that the flaming is more of an attention grabber than a problem solver. Both have their place.

If someone maliciously tries to copy content from here, and all they get is "gosh it'd be great if you would remove this video" with no follow-up, we get nowhere. It's how the world works. A different tactic was used, which brought fast attention to the fact that this community was aware of the video and it's malice to the community, which allowed positive action to be taken in removing it. I've learned that many people underestimate what a flame response can achieve, or overestimate what being polite can achieve.

They can actually be surprisingly effective against someone who is purposely creating misinformation, as those people usually aren't the brightest. Or, their "step-brother", in this case.

Maybe it's Super Joe from Bionic Commando. You know, in a green suit with a visor. And a hammer.

Hey everyone, thanks for the comments. Small coins take five frames to tally and large coins take 20. If it takes longer than this to avoid the coin, then I take it. This is especially apparent in Area D, due to physics that won't allow for a small jump to avoid coins. Some coins are taken to reduce lag, as that means one less sprite on the screen. This is mostly done in Area C, where although the lag is bad, it can be much worse (see the previous run as an example). I also need to make sure that I have enough money at the beginning to get the vest powerup in most levels. I wasn't able to take damage as I delivered the last hit on bosses, but some allowed for damage after the final hit. Area B allowed death which saved a few seconds. Area D had those spinning turbines I could have hit three times after the boss started dying, but the vest in the next level sped up enough parts to outweigh that gain. Area E allowed for death after the boss died on the fire to gain a very small amount of time (not nearly as much as Area B's death for unknown reasons), but the vest at the beginning of the final level also outweighted this. FreshFeeling: I have to give you massive props for watching and commenting on so many movies.

I was entertained by certain aspects of this game. Some of the graphics were very detailed (levels 1 and 4), while some the rest were pretty bland. The speed was interesting and the play was good, although it seemed a couple parts could have slightly reduced lag. Overall though, this got repetitive to me by the third level.

I made it all the way through this, with the same ROM I use to watch Arne's progress, checksum = 4E2D90F4. Snes9x 1.43 v9, with WIP1 timing, Volume Envelope Height Reading, and Sync Sound samples with CPU checked (1st, 3rd, 5th options). Overall this looks good, although there are some tricks Arne has discovered that will save you some more time. The first thing I noticed is that you can dismount the rhino in the first level instead of taking him through the sign to save a bit of time. The other thing is the player-switching when hitting the goal. Check out Arne's current progress, watching his run with the controller input enabled (default the "comma" button) and maybe you can learn more about the game. As is, I would think it's good enough to be published, but it would also be obsoleted soon as well (especially if it's Arne's next project).
