I might as well post this here, just in case people check here but not the submission thread? Or more to wrap up the discussion of the current run. I'm done! The run is submitted here: http://tasvideos.org/1058S.html Thanks again to everyone who supported my efforts, helped with suggestions and feedback, and all that good stuff.

The Murder Beam is about 15 seconds slower in real-time. So, no.

When looking only at the Spring Ball area, it is faster to use the freezing in game-time by a lot, and they are very close to even in real-time (due to the extra door sequence). However, I don't have the Ice Beam when I get to this point, because collecting it early takes more time than it does to kill Crocomire normally vs. plasma beam. So overall, the route is faster, just not in the Spring Ball area.

Snake Rattle n Roll called, they want their sound effects back. I don't really understand this game, so I can't say if it's played well or not. It doesn't look like it's played optimally at first glance to me. It may be 4-player, but I don't think it's that entertaining - however, it is impressive from a technical standpoint.

Ceres station rocks! I can't believe you hate that place. Seriously, why would you hate Ceres station?
1) Because the game clock and frame count are not perfectly correlated 2) Slightly random fadeout time depending on how you enter doors 3) Samus doesn't have any fun or fast abilities yet 4) It's boring to look at (very dark) 5) It's boring to listen to, for the first half anyway At least, this is why I hate it :)

Does anyone know details about glitching through Zebetites? I've seen it done two different ways - Teri's run takes 10 damage from a fireball, while Jecy's 100% run takes 0 damage from a frozen fireball (or at least it appears that way). I did some testing a few days ago, and I can't even get the trick to work, let alone figure out which is faster and how much energy to stockpile in my reserve tanks. I should watch some of the older Super Metroid runs here. If anyone has info for me, it'd be much appreciated. Also - I have 100% items collected now. Barring any disasters (game or otherwise), I should be done with this within a week.

I've always thought that "DLTK" was somewhat arbitrary and unneeded. 20 head shots to kill an enemy? That seems like it would be boring to me. I can't get Ramzi's video to play at all, but it's probably a problem on my end. (Ignore the fact that I think this would not make a good TAS in the first place.)

Alright I got around to actually watching this run. Fabian's right, whether or not I think the run should have it's own publishability based on categories is seperate from what I think of the run on an entertainment level. It was fun to watch. I like the various jumps you do over and under enemies. However, there were some known improvements to be made. However, this movie was published despite having some known flaws, and was later obsoleted. The only difference here is that it is obsoleting an existing run, and what does that matter? Yes vote. (Can Princess double-jump?)

The progress you posted (here) is very much improved from your previous published run. As long as you take your time and check out the feedback you get here, I think this run could turn out to be really great.

The reality is, if someone really wanted to steal an idea, then they would just wait until your movie was finished, and make their own. But around here, that's not very common, and a very very minor improvement by someone besides the original author is often rejected.

I'd say the majority do.

You should post this in a topic in the NES games category under Rockin' Kats, if one exists. If one doesn't exist, make a new one. People who are interested in Rockin' Kats may not know where to find it if you put it in a submission for SMB2.

I think getting 100% souls is crazy enough of a goal without having to do it the first time you meet an enemy. It also allows for more strategic planning, and it will make play smoother if you can careen through a room filled with enemies and souls are flying into you like the X from Metroid Fusion.

Holy crap, add this to the list of runs I will be closely following and anticipating! Just knowing how long I spent getting these damn souls, watching this minute and a half made me laugh out loud at several points.

The princess only run. It was made by Genisto, and I see no right in removing it. I say keep it there, or move it to the Demostration section.
I strongly disagree with this statement. Giving a run that seems to be out of place on the site grandfathered rights just because it used to fit is borderline favortism. Surprise. Also, Tokushin's SMB3 run was "removed", meaning it was obsoleted by a run that didn't have exactly the same goals. Maybe the SMB2 full-run should obsolete the princess only run (this run actually uses the Princess in one level, anyway).

I want to make a TAS of [Rockin' Kats] but it is really hard to make it look absolutely perfect.
This is where the forums can help. Play one level and post the progress, then wait and hear feedback. Then, go and redo the level with added improvements, and post again to get more feedback...once a level is sufficiently "finished", move on to the next level with the same process. This way, instead of putting your energy into many different movies, you are putting it all into one movie and it will show in the resulting quality. I also think Rockin' Kats has some sweet TAS potential.

So, I have a question. This run was done on Famtasia, and I've heard about how certain timings are different, etc. and how much this game can lag and so forth from the 2-player submissions. Combine that with the fact that Genisto did a remarkable job on this run, and I have to ask... Using FCEU, is this run beatable?

I'd vote for removing the Princess run as well. I always wondered, what's the significance of a Princess-only run, besides that is has a published run? I guess I see a comparison as, if someone submitted a Mario-only run, I don't think it would be published.

Things go much faster the second time you do them. If you don't go improve these other stages, you'll want to eventually.

Japanese version: Gryzor (I didn't notice Tombad's post....D'oh!) Well done, and fun to watch! I love the sound in this game of a boss or wall gun taking damage (doiiiiing!)

Very nice discovery. I'll vote yes once you fix the ending time of the movie (and an obsoletion of 14 seconds is much more impressive than 3!).

Another point I forgot to mention is that yes, N64 has 2-D games. But if we're going to TAS 2-D games, why not pick much better 2-D games on emulators that are already familiar? That way of thinking is probably a common deterrent to starting an N64 TAS. Also, of the six games in this "poll", four are 3-D, and two are kind-of-3-D.

I wasn't saying the N64 is held back only because of 3-D games. I said that it isn't helping, and then added why I personally don't like 3-D games.

How's progress Fabian? Any more levels done, or any of jimsfriend's ideas tested?
