I think maybe a good idea would be to have a "recommended for newbies" page and a "best runs" page. There's currently a conflict of interest because the star page also has to take into account other factors such as the popularity of a game. And "best movies (recommended for first time viewers)" is a bit misleading.
Yeah, it seems people are always confusing the two definitions and thinking the best movies are the ones that need stars. I think this would be a good idea and could clear up that misconception as well.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were actually planning on doing that, I thought you just mentioned it as a possibility that you weren't taking in this run. I'll watch the next update!

I hope this isn't discouraging, but I think this would get very old, very fast. However, many others seem to think this would be a great game to TAS, so perhaps I should be ignored. On the plus side, you did optimize the races well, but I personally would enjoy this game more as a playaround, shooting the computer opponents and such instead of just demolishing them every race.

More opinions from me (cuz I know you love them hehe): I was surprised that the longer SMW run kept its star instead of the shorter one. I've stated this before, but the flying gets old to me as the run goes on, and the run is in need of an improvement - not saying it's bad, just out of date with the current knowledge of SMW. On the other hand, the 11-exit run has tons of fun stuff packed into 10 minutes, including these highlights: Bouncing off shell in YI4 P-Switch jump in IC Screen-pallette glitch in DP1 Incredible Big Boo Fight in DSH And it's incredibly optimized throughout. Also, I'm not surprised SDW lost its star. I can see why it may not be the best choice for beginners to the site. But I'm happy that so many people do like the run anyway.

However, if you're going to show a super-glitch run like MM2, MM1 would be much better suited to it; as said before, glitches take less time to preform and are just generally even crazier.
I think this is a good reason that Mega Man 2 is more suited for a star than Mega Man 1 - since the glitches have a bit of prep time in Mega Man 2, it gives the watcher a chance to catch their breath and see what's involved.

How many here agrees with me that SprintGod's Sonic 3 & Knuckles is by far the best Sonic TAS ever done?
I agree with this, especially because S3&K lends itself to more shortcuts with the use of the special effects of the different shields.
And another thing, how can you people complain that Rockman and Rockman 2 are too glitchy to get a star? C'mon man, thats the beauty of those runs, how the author behind those runs abuse them extensively to say the least.
I'm not saying MM1's run isn't good by any means; I just think it is so glitched that a beginner wouldn't know how to take it. I've read all sorts of stuff about it and I still can't follow the entire thing. Once someone learns more about what is done here, then they would be able to appreciate the work that went into that run and follow it better - but they aren't a beginner by this point. For my taste, a run that is glitched to the point of MM1 removes the nostalgia element for me, because it's almost like a completely different game is played (i.e. Magnet Beam abuse instead of playing the level "normally"). It's still interesting to realize how far the game can be pushed, but the end product isn't something I like to watch all that much. SMB2(USA) and Zelda 2 are runs I also feel this way about.

It looked like at frame 4076 you just jumped off of some spikes. I had to watch in frame advance to see the trickery behind it :) This is looking very polished. Skull Man: "Man I've been sitting in this boring room for like 2 weeks...holy crap, there's Mega Man!! Ok, I better get ready for a fight!! [waits]... Surely he'll attack me, and then I'll counter with an attack of my own! It's foolproof! [waits] [waits] [waits] What is he doing? Is he using some sort of peaceful resistance? [waits] I...don't...know...WHAT...TO...DO!!!!!!!!"

You're not the only one. I also noticed that it puts the frame count and controller input in the screenshot, if they are selected (I don't think v7 did that). But yeah, I forgot that this happened to me, thanks for the reminder.

Well I'm not getting the X-ray scope until after I have the Space Jump, so it would have to also make up for lost time getting on the way to Maridia with the Grapple Beam and/or Speed Booster with knockback from the spikes.

No, but this is why movies are starred - they are "recommended for first time viewers".

If there was a way to disable certain sound channels in SNES9x, maybe this concept could be done while keeping the sound effects of the original game. I think that would be cool.

I think this run should get Mega Man 1's star, although I'm probably in the minority thinking that, simply because this run is much more suited for a beginner to watch than MM1 is.

Progress: I've got the entire route planned out, and I'm confident that weapon management won't be a problem, even though I don't plan on refilling weapons at my ship. I'm taking a slight detour from Michael Flatley's route - after getting the Wave Beam, I'm going to head down to fight Crocomire and get the items in his area, and get the missle behind the green gate on the way back. This way I can get the Spring Ball without having to stop and get the Ice Beam early. As far as actual game progress, I just took the elevator back to Crateria after that first missle pack, and I'm 89 frames ahead of Michael Flatley's WIP. Difficulties: MANY. This game is nuts for TASing. Things are slow because I've been spending a lot of time redoing early parts, trying to learn the ins and outs of the game. But progress has also been slowed because I've been working on Smash TV as well. Since I'm nearing completion of that run, I will probably focus on it a bit more to finish it up before fully concentrating on this run again. Thanks for the interest!

Well I'm no good at console runs, so I don't know how easy it would be to drop and regrab consistently. I'm sure it's no problem for you, though. I remember reading somewhere that beetles stay in their shell for 500 frames, which is 8.333.. seconds. Depends on exactly where you need the beetle to bounce off of at the end there. How's this run going, by the way?

2-Player looks kind of like Kid from Kid-n-Play. SO maybe they are MCs. Also, FYI, emcees is not a correct way to spell the word, because MC stands for "master of ceremonies", although emcee is commonly used, so it's probably considered correct by this point.

Prince of Persia for GBA: fun with a corpse! The only ROM I could find for this game was "Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time (U) (M3) [f1] (EEPROM).gba". Hopefully since I'm starting from a savestate, it will work on the normal game too (mine has a hacked intro I'm pretty sure). Edit: What I actually meant to type what was OmnipotentEntity quoted below. (LOL)

Are you going to remove entries from the list after they are published? That way we could visually work toward a smaller list, yay for motivation :) Bucky O’Hare & Hudson's Adventure Island 3 are both published as of this post.

Wow this beats the living CRAP out of my run. I didn't know you could grapple, and couldn't figure out a good use for that blue orb (which kept going away after I tried using it). Great job! So it's faster to jump than to walk?

The good: Use of the Super Arrow was nothing short of brilliant, especially in Crystal Man's level, and also the methods you use for refilling its power were very smooth. Your use of (most of) the special weapons down to their last notch in the boss rematches was just sick. The (possibly) bad: In Wave Man's level, you use the Charge Kick, and then switch to the Super Arrow. Before you actually use the super arrow, you have a part where you land on a platform slightly, slowing your fall. Could you have waited to switch to Super Arrow during this fall to reset your falling velocity and miss this platform, saving a bit of time? (You do end up using the Charge Kick on Wave Man, but you have some left over) You can also stop the movie after frame 118996, 48 frames sooner than you do, and still make it to the ending at the same time. Perhaps this was intentional though, to coincide with the last hit on Wily. You went a little ( / extremely) nutty in the rising part of Gyro Man's stage for my taste. The other: It's weird how up + a slides when upside down...but it somehow makes sense. In closing: With all the Mega Man dickriding that goes on in this community, it's often tough for me to tell whether or not I'll like a particular run of one of the games before watching it. However, after watching, I'm glad to say that this is by far my favorite Mega Man run on the site. The Super Arrow is exploited for some nice speed, yet the game isn't broken to a point where you can't tell (and inevitably don't care) what the hell is going on. Not only was this fast, but more importantly, it was also very fun to watch. I think it is a good watch for not only the ones obsessed with the runs of this series, but those who are casual fans as well. I vote yes - not that it matters, since this one was "next to be published" before it had a single vote.... :\ Edit: Sorry if this sounds confrontational, but Bisqwit, if you aren't going to remove, edit, or even remark on racist comments such as this one, then I can't figure out why you would chastize Shinryuu for saying "asshole". (Unless you never saw that comment, but I've noticed you tend to see everything around here)
