Hi guys, we are working on Bowser 1 fight for our 0 star TAS and Bowser does a "weird dance" at the start. It's slower when this happens. We have no idea how to manipulate him to not do the dance without wasting time. If anyone knows how to do avoid the weird dance without wasting any time, we would greatly appreciate it if you told us. As a side note, wasting a frame before entering the pipe avoids the dance, but I know it's possible without wasting frames.

it doesn't go -that- fast. getting through doors with wall kicking takes a lot of time to set up, and only works in some places, if any at all.

Well, talking about a low % run, skipping the sword would be very neat. But, if we're using DoT skip and skipping all dungeons (including gohma fight and several other places where crouch stab is useful), the only "obstacle" would be with which other item would we perform the skip owl text trick? Deku stick and?
the goal of low% is to finish with as few items as possible, and if the least possible items it's possible to finish the game with can't do such things as owl skips, you'll have to live with it.

More than just a few. You've already seen JRB, which is completely dominated by them. Obviously not every star will feature BLJs, but the run will be very BLJ heavy.
if you read my post: except for more lobby BLJ's to skip walking around in the castle, and BLJ's on the cannon slope at the start of JRB, only used to skip a lot of swimming, nothing has changed. bkDJ: I'm against it because there isn't even a decent (up to date) 120 star run up, and people are wasting time discussing a BLJ-less run, when BLJ's aren't dominating to get stars at all; they only skip boring parts like swimming and walking around in the castle. There is no need for a BLJ-less run, because BLJ's don't skip any fun parts, they only skip boring parts. If people actually still want a BLJ-less run, and someone's actually willing to make one, then cool, but for now, I think we should worry more about the 0 and 120 star runs in progress.

Care to elaborate? In case you got me wrong, I meant that more stars aren't obtained using BLJ's. maybe just a few, but my point was that BLJ's will never be dominating for getting stars.

You know, how about we ask mr_robert_z how many stars could be achieved by mostly BLJing. I personally doubt that many exist (surely not the majority), but he's doing the 120 star run right now so he would be the person to ask. Without his knowledge, the main base of this argument has no concrete foundation...
Like I already said, few stars use BLJ's. Trust me. :( Go watch rikku's run, except for more lobby BLJ's to skip walking around in the castle, and BLJ's on the cannon slope at the start of JRB, only used to skip a lot of swimming, nothing has changed.

Bkdj, that was the best quality I've seen encoded I downloaded the one at 60 fps about 208 MB I think that was the highest-res one, it's cool, I could see a huge difference mostly at the terrain (compared to the m64 ones on mupen)
it used a hi-res texture pack.

a playaround doing whatever the hell you want, and getting however many stars you want. Pick the best ones, show off some fun stuff, skip all the boring ass swimming, and end it in under 20 minutes.
there's many of these freeruns that show off fun stuff and randomness at YouTube. remember, this site is for speedruns.

A BLJ-less 120 star run wouldn't make much sense now. Fastest time with BLJs should be attempted first and the current run is kind of out-dated. So why don't we, until then, just not argue about it?
thanks for ending this discussion :)

I wish you could start reading my posts.. I said FEW PEOPLE, not no one, and I am right. Are there more people here except you and BoltR that want a BLJ-less run?

Seriously now... IT IS NOT LIKE THAT NOW, IN THE FUTURE. AS I SAID.
calm down.. I read what you wrote, and I assure you, no, more and more of the stars won't be obtained using BLJ's. actually, the only star in the game that uses a BLJ to warp right to the star is behind chain chomp's gate. BLJ's are used for most stars in JRB (Jolly Roger Bay), but only to skip a minute of swimming. There aren't many in-level BLJ spots that are actually useful. BLJ's only adds more speed to the run and skips some boring parts like minutes of swimming and walking around in the castle. There will never be a need for a BLJ-less run, because few people actually care about it, and I doubt any TAS'er will take the time to make one. End of discussion.

BoltR and mmbossman: don't worry about that, only a few of the 120 stars use BLJ's. it's mostly used in the castle. without BLJ's, there would be 10 more minutes of walking around in the castle in the 120 star run.

I'm sure any kind of run for Super Mario 64 if performed by an author with lots of experience and skill at TAS'ing Mario could be entertaining.
obiviously, but no BLJ's makes it less entertaining, so it's a waste of time.

It doesn't help that it's a non-arbitrary goal if it's not entertaining to watch..

I don't like the idea of BLJ-less 70 star runs; BLJ's are entertaining. 0 and 120 star runs should be the only ones accepted on this site. 16 star runs are good for entertainment purposes, but shouldn't be accepted, because the goal is now arbitrary. (didn't read the whole discussion)

well, that's a problem with your firewall, not the site.

Did some GS testing. 1) Metal cap code, can't open door 2) Code that forces Mario to the bottom of the water at high speed, can't walk under water http://www.box.net/shared/5gnuglf6s0

On the topic of the key doors, have you tried it, getting the second key, opening the door to the upstars, then going to the basement key door and see if it opens then
that doesn't matter.

reason i was asking is because you might beable to get enough speed to get to the underwater door without the game realising you are underwwater meaning you would open it, and skip first bowser
I doubt that's possible.. but still a cool idea, I'll try it later.

you were probably aware of this, but in BitS, it could be a good idea to intentionally waste a frame or two if the elevator positions are bad (or just to see if it makes them better than they are).
we will obiviously test everything imaginable to see what's the fastest when we get there.

A bit contradictory there.
We only told friends that we knew (or thought) were trustable, and that doesn't make SL less of a jerk for running around telling everyone. Oh well, I doubt many people care about this argument, let's go back on-topic. SS: I saved over 40 frames in BitFS alone. :)

Well, then maybe you shouldn't have been stupid enough to: 1. Tell Brian, who you KNEW I talked to.
He promised he would keep it secret.

2. Harass me over MSN about 2 frames that you saved in a part of the run that, when I did it, had never been done before. I know you personally didn't do this, but your little butt-buddy did.
Running around telling people about the run is still stupid and immature..

I and SS are working on it. We intended to keep it secret, but Brian told SL, and SL decided to be an asshole and tell everyone. :)
