How did you end up getting the flooz to start faster? I couldn't tell if any time was being spent for RNG manipulation, if that's even possible in this game.
Oh, yeah, I should've explained that. It's just a small frame window when the level is starting up where you can get the flooz to start flowing as opposed to having to wait for the little jingle to end like Explosion Pills did. The layouts depend on the pipes placed on the field when the level ends. The only time I modified this on purpose was at the end of level 15 when I place a vertical pipe at the very end when the flooz is going through the last pipe. It affects nothing timewise but changed the next level to something manageable.

I disagree with two things here: - Vault movies should be on Easy, no questions asked. The Vault already allows speed/entertainment tradeoffs, so a major one that is used across all tiers shouldn't be deprecated so quickly. Also I fear it opens the door to a lot of cheap improvements and ignores the fact that some Vault movies are not doomed to be there forever. I also believe the Vault itself is kind of outdated, so I'd rather not have runs that are, for lack of a better term, specificially identifiable as "Vault movies" if the concept is ever changed up. - Votes based on difficulty should be disregarded. As we can tell from the endless submission threads and comments on sites elsewhere, some people just don't like Easy movies. I think it is relatively fair and not terribly unreasonable that a person would not be entertained by a movie they do not feel is a superplay/pushing the game to its limits. It's not like there have never been Easy movies published uncontroversially, so I see no evidence this is a hurdle big enough that such a rule needs to be in place. (Also, I'd argue Strider should probably be in Moons by now. : P)

One of Cratermaze's 3 votes is a 10/10 from the author. So, yeah, discard that one.

Nice, short, giving it a yes, but I must ask... when are we going to get a warpless TAS?
Whenever it happens, it probably won't be made by me! The first cavern is a walk in the park, but the second and third caverns have a lot of waiting for dynamite/dinosaurs that get in the way/mosquitos who sap your health like crazy. Plus, the fact that you don't do the cavern 2 warp means you also don't pick up a ladder, which means you're lacking one at the end of cavern 5. It'd probably just be like this run only with a few more annoying levels to sit through.

I get way too much glee seeing Digger get crushed by the rock in the bonus stages. I'm not sure why... maybe his stupidly large smile has to do with it.
I feel the opposite! He's just SO happy to be exploring the cavern and here I am chucking him off tall ledges and smushing him to death with boulders. Poor guy xD

Lol, I have no idea why my videos are so crappy-looking now. I'll find a way to fix it it before my next submission, though.

By the way, around the 6:40 mark on the video, it seems like you jump on top of a tree but briefly lose some speed doing so. (It's the first tree you encounter in that room.) Could you teleport on top of the tree to save any time?
Not really sure which tree you mean. This one? I don't lose any horizontal speed from landing on that one. I ended up on the very edge of the tree, actually - Captain Comic stands on it for a frame before walking off, which looks kind of funky because it resets his y-speed and the frame he's on the tree isn't really visible. I suppose if you watched the video it would look even worse, because for some reason the quality came out kinda poor this time :S

I suggest a use of the spin move as a screenshot, as I did definitely not expect to see Superman dance!
It is quite funny, especially because the spin is one of only three special moves in the game. It's kind of hard to tell what he's doing when it's just a still image, so I'm not sure about it for a screenshot... Unrelated but I added level comments. There's quite a bit in this TAS that isn't self explanatory, so it might be worth a read.

It appears that way, and I did it in my first WIP. After I redid it I learned it actually turns out slower, because Superman's running speed is faster than his speed in the air, so minimizing his air time is a good thing. Also, punching the enemy is rather quick. After Superman's arm extends for one frame, you can duck and cancel the rest of the animation while still dealing damage. Unfortunately, this only works with standing punches, but it allows us to defeat most enemies quickly without having to jump.

There will always be someone interested in a game. TASVideos law :) I'm glad to hear from you, Highness. Currently making some good progress, so I'm thinking the TAS will be submitted around the end of this weekend.

Link to video I redid level 1 and saved about a second, then I did level 2. The subway section is pull-your-hair-out levels of annoying to tas, with those instant death worms and this game's horrible collision detection. On the bright side, I'm currently 27 seconds ahead of Highness. :)

Nice new tricks! Yes -vote! But are you sure crouching at 00:55 is faster than to break one block? Or was that because of the red ninja under there?
Thank you! Yes, the crouching is to move while preventing the ninja from spawning.

I guess since I'm done Alex Kidd, I should try another game. Even though this one's in the vault, it's not that bad, and the current run of this game is in dire need of an update - it's almost 12 years old and has several visible mistakes throughout. Link to video Here's a test of the first level. I'm sure I can squeeze more frames out of this... I sort of rushed it to get a feel of the game. But, for now, it's a 2-second improvement.

Shinobi Kid wasn't ever actually released. That was the working title for the game and Alex Kidd was eventually tacked on top of it, but it's not like High Tech World where in Japan it was an entirely different game and the localization painted over everything.
Yeah, I knew that. Poor Alex Kidd didn't seem to command much ingenuity at Sega, heh. Was just giving examples. It totally counts! Though, with the fact that the first boss was supposed to be a parody of Mario when the game was still "Shinobi Kid", maybe an Alex Kidd re-skin was meant to be. : P

[3010] NES Mega Man 4 by Tiancaiwhr in 32:02.60 was great. Definitely worth a nomination.

I'll nominate Flip, who I believe did the most impressive work in this category this year.

Wow, this game is pretty dark. Is it an issue with the palette coding (think BTTF 3 Genesis) or just shoddy programming?

Wow, Kao the Kangaroo? I thought those games had faded from the public's subconscious. These games are, to be frank, quite lousy. I think there was a PSP game that tried to reinvent the titular character as a gritty, complex anti-hero... yikes. This run was reasonably enjoyable, even if the game doesn't really stick out from the heaps of lame 2D cookie-cutter platformers on the GBA. One question: you can slide down hills by pressing R, does that save any time?

[2870] NES The Last Ninja by illayaya in 08:01.11 Both of the published TASes of this game have received fairly unenthusiastic ratings. This one was handed a lowly 4.6, which, needless to say, isn't a particularly common rating for Moon movies. From watching it, I don't see much particularly jumping out as moon material. Anyone disagree? EDIT: I'm not a newbie anymore! This... is really important.

I find it interesting how Blublu's 2004 run still hasn't been beaten by over 10 seconds. Must be a tight game! Good improvement. I never did like how the previous TAS was just on the cusp of being under 7 minutes : P

Wouldn't it be faster to keep the second player active during the saucer section? That way at the end when you use the electrical attack, you can have the second player near the blocks as they explode as opposed to having to move Kirby over after the attack's finished. Or you could have the second player use the attack and have Kirby positioned near the blocks.
