Y'know, after looking through the list of highly-rated Vault movies, I have to wonder if the decline of the amount of ratings people give to movies is making it harder to reliably infer a general consensus on what tiers movies should actually go in. For example, [2702] Genesis Zero Tolerance by Dimon12321 in 19:52.65 has 61% yes votes in its discussion thread, 13 out of 21, so it was published to vault. But so far, its publication has only been handed 3.5 votes, and it's sitting comfortably at an average of 6.6. I guess there's not a huge overlap between people who vote/people who rate, no? I think submission votings should definitely factor into whether a movie should make the change. As for Vault runs that should be moons? Hm. I kinda like Superman by Highness, and the entertainment rating isn't too bad (6/10), but it's from 2004 and appears to have a lot of sloppy moments, so idk. Maybe it should wait until an improved version by whoever.

How is Super Mario Bros not worthy of it? It's arguably one of the most visible, hotly-contested, and optimized TASes.

Question: Should this submission be Starred alongside the original's "sightseeing"? Seeing as how the original's any% [518] SNES Umihara Kawase by flagitious in 01:53.23 used to have a star.
I'd rather give it to the original, but having two starred runs of Umihara Kawase games is probably pushing it. The gameplay doesn't deviate heavily between all three runs, and I think the sightseeing movie is probably the best choice because it's the longest and shows off more of the game.

I think this would make a good movie for the Vault. Any reason it was passed over?

So! I've decided to try TASing this myself. I'm mostly testing the ladder glitches to see if there are any other strategies. AngerFist got them done pretty well in his movie, but maybe there might be something else... who knows, it's random.

I'll be 25 in December. Time flies when you're having fun (or getting old : P) EDIT: Oh, I made myself old. Better fix this.

I don't know, I'd like to assume that they weren't eagerly withholding this information until the publication came up and pounced. They aren't exactly a frequent poster.

There's nothing to download, it's a streaming video (and yes, it's legitimate).

This game has the best music, omg. The biggest flaw in this TAS is that you don't get to hear certain tracks for very long : (

Okay, don't want to impede. I'll show myself out, but good luck if you do decide to finish... this game is very clunky, so I don't think I would have fun TASing it for very long.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/25138363549196501 144 frames faster than the published movie at the end of level 1. I did this on VBA, though my tests have shown that porting VBMs of this game to BizHawk is really easy, you just need to add/remove a couple blank frames during level transitions. Anybody interested? I don't know if I'll go all the way with it, because this game sucks.

Okay! I redid everything in 1-1 after buying the gyro (the rest of it is this submission's input) and saved 30 frames from less jumping. NOTE: I didn't take the time to make this as fast as possible, I just wanted to rush it out. This should NOT be used as a measure of how big a frame-perfect improvement of this TAS would be. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/24716694224062329 As for whether the known improvements should be ignored but noted and this TAS be published anyway: I don't know. I think the quality of this TAS isn't that bad. There are probably some frame savers that don't involve minimizing jumps, but overall I'd say it looks decently polished outside of the known improvements. The problem is is that this TAS is almost 40 minutes long, and loses frames at nearly every oppurtunity. It would definitely add up to something... likely big. I'm not going to vote.

Ok, working on it now. I'll try to get one up before tonight. Don't expect much in the way of frame perfection, but it should be faster.

I don't have access to a computer very frequently, and I did post in the thread, but I had no chance to actually play the game until now. I just decided to test this game myself because it looked off. You'll see after landing some jumps in this game make the character run slower before starting at full speed again? It wasn't meant with any hurtful intention, and I'd really hate for it to be seen that way. : \ I'm sorry if this post is just nonsense. I just don't want to have a bad reputation/be denigrated in general this quickly. I've been trying to make a TAS for ages (staying on task/having motivation is hard enough) and joined to try to help others, not to be a general nuisance that no-one wants around :| I'd feel bad if I made others feel bad, and I don't want that to happen, especially by me being a bit short-sighted.

I'm watching it now, and the tech quality of this TAS is rather questionable, to be honest. Why do you keep jumping when it's much slower than running (4-3-3-4 ppf vs. 2-3-3-2)? You're pretty much bunny hopping for the entire movie, which means you're almost constantly losing time. : \

Why are you using the unskippable GBA bios (and on a beta core, no less)? Is it required now?

The game was played in GB mode instead of SGB mode since Bizhawk doesn't support SGB mode (apparently).
I've never used it myself, but there is a place for the SGB BIOS in the firmware section of BizHawk, so I'd assume it does?

I've done some testing and BizHawk requires exactly 1 extra frame of no input at the start of the movie. In fact, the auto-judging script is a BizHawk Lua script that accepts both formats but adds one frame to any .fm2 files it imports. Testing so far has not shown any other desyncs or time differences throughout the entire run, so we should be good to go. Good question, though!
thanks, does this means that BizHawk's timing of the game will be the judged one?

My fault, I did a poor job explaining. Here's the fm2 test. (Note, it's not played with particularly great precision, but the 2 frame saving is there.) http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/24386299010083902 You can see where the imrpovement is at frame 1437. Left is MESHUGGAH's run.

If anyone wants an easy improvement to make, you can save two frames off this movie. Very early in the movie, when MESHUGGAH jumps up to get the machine gun, his input is: frame 1: A frame 2: B What you should be doing is this: frame 1: A frame 2: blank frame 3: B If you hit B the frame after you jump, you'll hang in midair for a frame. By waiting a frame, you'll avoid the hang, saving 2 frames. If I didn't explain myself clearly, I'll put up an fm2. I'm a bad TASer so I won't be the one to do this run. I hope someone does it : ) Of course, I have no idea if an improvement that small would be published. But it's worth having on record. : )
