I know I should focus on one project at a time, but... I can't help, there are too many Master System games to study for TASing... +D A WIP that completes 6 rounds and 2 bonuses (Runs on Teddy Boy Blues, and Dega 1.16 doze) (I didn't "choose" it as ROM, I just preferred the music) Ok, of course this game is quick and 6 rounds + 2 bonusesgoes by in less than 4 minutes, but ... it has 50 rounds, and some of them are more linear, which makes me doubt if it could make it as a good TAS.. 1- Enemies can be shot down easily the first frame possible, but .. I have to catch all of their remaining balls to finish a round, and this requires careful planning on how to shoot the bad guys in an optimised way.. 2- The bonus round, the first one I did on purpose going for 1 million score, but of course I'll prefer the second one for TASing, it's extremely faster, and it's kind of .. fun factor, even =P 3- Jumping around aside with a bunch of oshishis (the black random jumping heads on round 3) is a lot of fun, and those who played this game will be fascinated by aplayer that can dance around them all the time .. XD 4- Commands look like all work in 1 frame, but sometimes I have problems shooting 3 times in 5 frames, which can be a little tricky.. 5- I don't know if I'm going to continue this TAS, so if someone was secretly interested, feel free to continue it, .. and I still have ideas for strategies on all 50 rounds and ideas for tricking enemies too =P I would like to be around if someone is to take this project.. xP 6- Two little tricks I discovered: pressing '1' one frame before the character appears in screen makes him jump in mid-air ..... and: when you're going left, pressing right + '2' for one frame and then keep going left will make your character shoot back without turning back =P I don't know if this last one works on even or odd frames, but it's something like this, .. I was disconsidering lags, maybe it changes all the time +_+ So? Luck manipulation looks really wanted here, and I'm still a n00b at that, anyway..

I was thinking which Master System games have quick paced gameplay, bad collision detection and taking out of bosses in less than 10 frames, and then it hits me, The Ninja! =P so I did a WIP in one afternoon, less than 2 hours to see if the game is appealing enough: This WIP, runs on Dega 1.16 doze Some things about the game: 1- I decided not to get the red scroll, because of two factors: it changes the music on all stages (steps..?) to the same of the title screen (unwanted), and it makes shots go through the enemies.. this second one is actually a good willing fun factor but.. maybe I'll get it on stage 9 or 10 in a more optimised try later.. 2- Disappearing looks really cheatful, so I should focus on using it the least I can, or maybe.. never? Or it could be just once, to show that it exists, so players that don't know the game will get that I can run through everything without being damaged and I decided not to ... XD 3- Commands take one frame to work, except when the area is full of enemies, which is lagging and should be avoided, and is why I try to clean the screen on level 1 and 8.. 4- I don't know if it's possible to see it but.. I was one frame away of being killed by the final boss, ... if this can be seen, it's a good thing =P he shoots really quick x_x 5- I should explore more the collision against horses, big rocks, boomerangs, dogs, and shurikens in general, to go nearer them and look more professional ... xP but I have to miss some shots on every level because 100% hit ratio takes to long to add up to the score... or maybe I should do it all the time? *seeing a label 'Aims for in-game time instead of real-time' coming*... 6- On stage 10, I can finish the level without hitting any enemy, but that turned out bad, real bad, because the game divides by zero, and then the catastrophe happens, a slow screen counting 10 millions points on the score.... 7- I don't have to explain why I kill enemies in the first stage, but the blue scroll bearer don't show up if I don't, so ..... (blue scroll = speed = really wanted item) and of course, the 5 green scrolls need to be picked up or else the game doesn't let you go to the final level... 8- When I shoot a shuriken and it stays in mid-air, that's a glitch that happens when I shoot it while pressing left and right together =P 9- Some enemies are faster than the main character, which are the flame spitters and the cyan samurais, .. and I think a little more of these cyan guys could show up in the final video.. 10- I tried everything to make the secret passage show up and still be moving the character around, but it didn't turn out good, it only opens if we are in the right spot and don't move.... 13- Actually, there are two more levels, 11 and 12, but I skip them by finding the secret way to the final level =P ... Is this somewhat entertaining to other people? I actually had fun doing it, because it is a very easy game, with great playability (1 frame for all commands), and it's Ninja, when are Ninjas not entertaining? XD EDIT (21/09/2011): And this WIP, runs on Dega 1.16 MAME EDIT 2 (23/09/2011): Some explanations about the second WIP: - got better boss fights, and less lag on their scenes, got a little closer to the fire spitter guys, and.. - got better last levels, with that spinning enemy.. maybe it's not looking cool to use invisiblity on that last level, but that's exactly what I'm trying to break for the next WIP =P

I had to redownload FCE Ultra here to watch the NES TASes (because one file was missing and it wouldn't open), but.. one of its files, this lua51.dll, keeps being accused as a trojan by Avira.. TR/PSW.Nilage.hmo or something ... is it dangerous? Is it completely harmless? Should I delete it and search for a non-trojan version? Or is it the lua51.dll a set of malicious codes to run on TASes? o_o

Ok, is it too late to discuss this PAL/NTSC thing? Here, in Brazil, this game only runs as NTSC, which makes a 16:30 TAS video, .. and I think that's what was released here, a NTSC version.... O_o this PAL thing is too slow and the TAS skills could improve a lot, anyway, after seeing wwmarx's video.. but there are parts where ShinyDoofy's version looks better, ... I think the version should be NTSC and both player's skills should be combined to make a final version TAS of this game, in an improved way, ... or maybe the PAL rule is not optional? ... I mean, in the rules, it really says it's only a rule for NES games and some Genesis games O.o Why can't it run as 60 Hz if it was released this way? @__@

I would prefer the Master System/SG-1000 version because it's insanely more difficult than the Genesis version (which has much better playability and commands) ... but the Genesis version is more appealing with its better music, better accuracy, and better "girl next window" =P EDIT1: Can you beat this guy that posted on Youtube? (or maybe are you this guy?) XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA4VFxfiORg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zoGLIYj2wo And this other guy too? (which I'm assuming can be you too?) xP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qkmCAmFgeE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dtvu32ycwQY TAS skills can make it better with more planned paths .. +D

The only part I liked as a TAS and only when it begun, was the shooter =P otherwise, even if I do know this game, it really doesn't look like a good TAS choice.. x.x

That trick with the wall reminds me of Megaman ... being thrown somewhere else after entering the wall ... this shows that video games aren't really evolving in the collision detection methods =P Although I liked the TASing, the speedrun, and the idea of Tomb Raider itself, I got bored at some parts, and maybe that's the reason I voted Meh ... but the video will be accepted anyway, right? Most fans would deny it but TR is about watching Lara's butt moving.. and people say butt cult is a brazilians thing... I swear I'm not judging! >D

I don't feel like this is a TAS, even if it is the fastest speedrun to the ending ... I feel more like it's a Free Tour =P you take the audience to know what the game do during the stages, and you show what different weapons do, ... but in general, the music, always the same, gets boring, and even if you did get some tips from the Gradius TAS, .. I have to vote Meh But I voted Yes ... a very weak Yes õ_o because I did have fun while watching, and because it makes me wonder how shooters could be "Toured" and which ones would be better choices, because I had some time ago this crazy idea about touring Fire Shark, and I just didn't do it, maybe because of the canceled Thunder Force 3 movie, which is not like a TAS anyway, but ... measuring shots in a shooter looks hard... +D In the end, maybe there will be space for FreeTourVideos, shooters finished in less time, and less shots, but ... it doesn't look like this day will come soon.... >.>

I was about to say you were going too slow-paced, and climbing up that ladded at the beginning seems so unnecessary, but anyway, it's not a TAS route yet, right =P I'm looking forward for a longer WIP, and ... I don't really think this game needs a lot of powering-up, but it can be a matter of how long it will take to finish a boss, I guess.. +D

I would like to see a complete TAS from Psycho World, it's "cousins" with one of my favorite Master System games.. +D This one has more levels, more musics, more bosses, more everything, in general =P

Be careful or your brain will age too much with this game... +D I'm voting Meh, and I'm too lazy right now to explain why ... but it's like that, it's less entertaining the second time, when we just already saw it before, but mostly because even the piano player song got better, I got less entertainment from this one, somehow >.> Maybe perfection is randomness .. sometimes.
Mothrayas wrote:
I don't think the piano segment has really improved, in my opinion. I'd also prefer a published run of this game to contain more of the game, and not just one part which is not that interesting anyway. I vote Uncancel-the-old-run-and-cancel-this-one.
I kind of agree with this guy, .. the old one was slow paced but had something new.. +D ...... It's like you're saying you'll TAS a Sonic game, but just the two first levels..

Isn't that '16 HP modules instead of 32 HP bosses on 5-1' from me? I said something like that on the WIP topic ... but anyway.. =P

8 minutes, most videos on the site are longer than 20 =P I swear to god, if he doesn't exist, .. I'm still laughing at the piano player part, it was too funny XDDDDDDDDDDDD The letters, math signs and symbols are mostly getting less attention since it's just the confusion again, but ... I still like most of them in this run ... The idea of telling a story, I would like to see that =P Yes vote, mainly for the piano player, I had to watch it 3 times, and it's really rare to catch my attention more than once >.> EDIT: Actually I'll give you a better vote, a SuperYes =P that means you should ignore all of the comments, voting and complaining, good or bad .. and just be yourself, keep on being a great TASer and eventually more and more people will like your work \o/ EDIT2: (yeah, I'm still reading the thread) now I read something interesting ... considering like the previous Brain Age TASes didn't exist ... I would definetely say Yes to this one ..... now ask yourselves this question: isn't there SMB videos all the same? Mario running top speed to the end, walkthrough walls and making the enemies look like idiots? And we love the videos, always the same, speedruns, and "tool-assisteds" ... some of us are here since 2004 and it's still fun and entertaining +D EDIT3: I too loved the ending, but memory sprint overall is ... boring. Idea? draw the dolls in all 5 ends and draw different heads, or upside down, or something more unexpected than nintendo characters, at least =P EDIT4: Why don't you do one of those 41 days and 49 hours TASes to unlock other mini-games? This game is really much more open to variation, you can even please every different opinion in this thread about the piano player part.. XD

Is someone willing to test this on the 'TAS in real console' device, with four TVs and four NESes? =P Already voted Yes, .. but I too think it lacks a little SMB1 after the half, but.... is there a SMB1 10 minute route to be tried? xP

I see people voting No, and No, and it's not winning against the Yeses. .. and since I voted Yes, I should give an explanation =P This is the only DDR I know in which the hardest songs come already unlocked and playable, so ... I think it would be even better with Healing Vision, but... it's okay with these 3 songs xP But .... Isn't that EXTREMELY easy to TAS? This doesn't show off incredible skills as TASer, and it doesn't show off as the better grade in the game, since you jump the screens, .... so ... why did I vote Yes again? It's my choice to like the game anyway >.> *seeing again* Hey ... you didn't perfected the positions, I can see sometimes that you did use some TAS skills, like pressing the button in the first frame possible, or the last O_o

Is that 4 minutes credit screen really supposed to be slow and 'a bucket of cold water'? The first 10 minutes of the video are genius, amazing great TASing, but the last 4 minutes were really boring to watch... can't vote yet, I'm thinking >.> I'm sure that people know it, so I will say it: hold Up on the credits, any credits in the game, and they scroll faster =P a little more than 200% speed if I remember well.. *person that finished this game on hard mode playing on console and a crappy 3-button joystick, old and stiff*

For now, I'm stuck on the first stage trying a new strategy, trying to fight the boss with both lancers and attempting to make all three die at the same time .... but I got a job and will have less time to the TAS for some weeks ... +_+
