Update : I'm not doing the run anymore see page 21 for talking about Erim's run or the Final Fantasy 6 thread for Catastrophe's run. It's a crazy idea but since there's a discussion about Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG... FF3 could even be shorter than CT and MRPG. The World of Balance is linear but World of Ruin offers a lot of possibilities. Here are some points about a possible runs : -Get sprint shoes ASAP -Skip unuseful treasures -Use the Vanish/Doom combo to kill boss instantly -Use sketch glitch to get powerful items early (Scimitars, Aegis Shields, lot of money !) -Manipulate randomness in battles to hit early with criticals -Manipulate randomness to skip random battles (if possible) The interesting point is World of Ruin. You can finish the game with only 3 characters (Celes, Edgar and Setzer). However, the final dungeon and final boss would be hell. Each additionnal character requires a subquest : -Terra requires a small subquest, interesting -Sabin requires a small subquest, interesting as he would speed up Figaro castle. -Relm's subquest is long, but the sketch glitch could provide a lot of powerful item -Strago has no subquest but requires Relm -Cyan's subquest is interesting but too long -Locke subquest is required for the most powerful magic and equipment in the game but his dungeon is too long. -Mog's subquest takes some time. However controlling the ramdoness of his dances would be powerful. Also, there would be no more encounters with the Moogle Charm relic. Maybe interesting -Gau's dungeon is quitelong. Getting his special attacks need some time. -Umaro takes time and is useless -Shadow is a problem. With the sketch glitch, he will have very powerfull items to throw at the enemy. The final boss could be killed in one hit if the rumor about throwing the Atma Weapon is true. However getting him means waiting for him at the floating continent and doing his subquest. This would take a lot of time -Gogo require a quite long dungeon. I might try this run. Do someone knows the actual world record ?

For 32X it works. You just need to configure your bios files in the Misc/Bios menu (you need 68000 bios , Master SH2 bios and Slave SH2 bios. Don't ask where to get them) I'm not sure about SegaCD and SegaCD+32X games. Check the official Gens forum : http://gens.consolemul.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi

Do "TEST9" appear at the bottom right corner of the About window (Help menu)? If not then you have the wrong version. Follow nifboy's link to the gens thread The download link is in the first post. EDIT: copy-paste of the links: Test version 9 http://www.speedruns.org/downloads/gens_movie_test9_exe.zip Thanks to SpeedRunner for this mirror http://step.polymtl.ca/~jyzero/gens_movie_test9_exe.zip

But how would you record the Wily Tower, if you have to use a savestate to get to it? Considering the way rerecording works, the movie would go out of sync as soon as you load the state to play it.
It can be done: Record a movie of you reaching Wily Tower (Take your time) Make a savestate Check the framenumber of the savestate (In play movie dialog box) Edit the framenumber in the savestate to 0 (Around offset 0x22478, 4 bytes long) Trim movie data for earlier frame (for exemple, if the savestate is frame 200, then trim byte 65 to 664) Resume record from savestate Also "Record new movie from savestate" could be added in future version...

Here's another way : Play your movie and quicksave where you want to rerecord. Then use Resume record from savestate.

From Wikipedia
Rhesus Another characteristic of blood is Rhesus factor or Rh factor. Someone either has or does not have the Rh factor on the surface of their red blood cells. This is indicated as + or -. This is often combined with the ABO type. Type O+ blood is most common, though in some areas type A prevails, and there are other areas in which as many as 80 percent of the people are type B. Matching the Rhesus factor in the ABO system is very important, as mismatching (i.e. an Rh positive donor to an Rh negative recipient) will cause hemolysis. A second born Rh positive child of an Rh negative mother will also have hematological problems including hemolysis. Rh factor is named after the Rhesus Monkey where the factor was first identified. Rhesus inheritance Rh is inherited the same way, except that it has two alleles and Rh is dominant. Rh Disease occurs when an Rh negative mother who has already had an Rh positive child bears another Rh positive child. The antibodies in the mother's blood react to the infant's blood. This reaction doesn't always occur and is less likely to occur if the child carries either the A or B antigen and the mother does not. In the past, Rh incompatibility could result in stillbirth or death of the mother. Rh incompatibility was until recently the most common cause of long term disability in the United States. At first, this was treated by transfusing the blood of infants who survived. At present, this affliction can be treated with certain anti-Rh(+) antisera, the most common of which is Rhogam.

I used to play some time ago. Not very good, only 6 or 7 with Cs. I played using StepMania with Mix 1 to 8 on a modified Nintendo PowerPad. I played with No Holds. I tried in arcade once and I totally sucked. PowerPad pods are too different from arcade pods.

It is my opinion that Final Fantasy III (VI) has the best video game soundtrack ever. Followed by Chrono Cross, Some tracks from FF7 and FF8, Chrono Trigger, Symphony of the Night, Super Mario RPG, Ikaruga and some others. I like remix too like Relics of the Chozo (remix of Super Metroid Soundtract), orchestrated haunted version of One Winged Angel, and others from OCRemix.

I agree too that a dialog box asking to cancel read-only mode is a good idea. I will add it to the new version (If I can figure out how to do it. ). However, read-only is here to stay. There are additionnal features I could implement : - Map resume record from now to a F key (very easy) - A red circle displayed in a corner of the screen when recording (like in camcorders) (average) - Allow quicksave and quickload gamebuttons while playing a movie (easy)

Tried with Version 8 and all Version 9 wip and it desynced at the same place. Here are the md5sums of the files I used: 0f04fc1b5bf8c9a887abcf14ce96b0cd for Castlevania - Bloodlines (U) [!].bin eee4b429a7f5c19170de825a01f1db35 for castlevania_bloodlines_expert_lecarde_v1_dan_.gmv

Don't worry about being confused. Version 9 has a nice GUI for movie recording and it warns you if you try to do something illegal. When you resume a recording with a savestate, it erases all movie data after the loaded frame. To "edit" a movie between two frame. You'll need to make two movie, the later one using "Play with savestate".

I use computer controllers so much that I have to buy a new every year. So far I had : Gravis gamepad Pro USB: Looks exatly like a PS1 controller. The d-pad broke. And USB connection had a habit of disconnecting in the middle of the game. Axis pad pro : Looks like Dual Shock controller, without the rumble. The left analog stick got too loose. Thrustmaster FireStorm Dual Power 2 : Looks like a Dual Shock with 2 additionnal shoulder buttons. Great controller except for the lack of rumble feature under Windows XP. The left analog stick lost the up direction. Thrustmaster FireStorm Wireless : Like TFSDP2 but wireless. Great for playing on the TV. The major problem is that you the virtual mouse and virtual keyboard drivers are buggy. Do not install them. All these controllers have one common flaw : the d-pad sucks. For games like Super Metroid, I use a SNES pad connected to the parallel port. And I also have a modified NES parallel port adapter to plug a PowerPad. I could plug a Zapper, but I don't know if it works.

Gigafrost is right. The game acts differently depending on the content of the save ram. It's the same thing with controller setting. When the game finds a 6buttons controller, it says "it's cool" to itself, and lose a few cycles doing so. These few cycles will cause a desync later. So the game must be played with the same controller setting as recorded. Version TEST9 take care of this problem.

Based on instruction manual (PC version) the game ends when "toppling [the Black Knight] throne". Also it says that going to the Black Knight without fireball if almost certain death. Personnaly, I have never been very far at this game. I'm looking foward to your run.

It's a knonw bug. Fixed in version TEST9. There's one extra frame played where it shouldn't To fix it : in g_ddraw_dummy.cpp in fonction void MoviePlayingStuff() change
if(FrameCount>MovieLastFrame)
to
if(FrameCount>=MovieLastFrame)
or
if(FrameCount>=MovieLastFrame-1)
(I don't remember wich one)

I no longer have it. Ask Bisqwit who improved it anyway. You can play the Windows version on Wine too. Just be sure to set your desktop resolution to 16 bit.
