I don't think many people are interested in TASes for autoscrollers.

The problem with this run is that the timesaving tricks were known for quite a while now. It's one thing to have a movie lack improvements that have been discovered when the movie was almost finished and the author wants to keep consistency but it's something entirely different to not use timesavers that are known without any reason to do so (e.g. if a timesaver would distort the gameplay a lot someone might decide to not use it but that's not the case here).

This uneven walk speed stuff sounds a bit like using a memory watcher might be useful.

Naah, it's not an error on your part. I suppose Boco got confused with the "can confirm". Since it's a figure of speech it doesn't obey standard grammar rules. I just missed your post somehow.

Unless you can finish all stages in the same amount of time you'll have to introduce waiting/suboptimal running in one of the movies to keep them the same length.

Ah, oops, somehow I managed to miss Bisqwit's post there...

So it's possible that ending the battle at a high position would be a good idea, but uncertain. Couldn't this be tested easily by ending a fight at different heights and counting the frames until a certain event?

Never mind that it's difficult to compare run times if each runner causes different delays with his name.

Well, that's why we have Fast Forward, right? The Chakan run has one fight after minutes of credits as well.

Yep, this looks REALLY bad, damage taken that looks nowhere near necessary, shots fired that made no sense, etc. Especially on the bosses you often touch the boss during an attack and take damage or run into one of his shots. Most parts of this run don't look tool assisted at all. Plus you miss opportunities for taking damage to speed things up. During Tunnel Rhino's stage you could have avoided damage earlier to have enough health at the rising flames part to just run through the fire instead of waiting for it to disappear. In Overdrive Ostrich's stage you could have taken damage from enemies to run through those fire beams while you are invulnerable.

All gems could be considered a 100% run, no?

I think he'd prefer it without the "this is a tool assisted run" notice ;).

If you make it in hard mode, I INSIST that you pick up and use the pistol. I think you mean the silver handgun, the handgun spawns at normal, too. Though I suppose a run through Boss Rush to get the Ion Rifle may make it look interesting :p. I'll never make a glitch run in normal mode because it will be so fast it will look ridiculous. I thought that was the whole point of a TAS?

With constant jumping you have to touch the ground and interact with more enemies than if you're dashing on a straight line over the level. I'd say that's more interesting. Boco: Does the hat really change the end poles animation that much? Seemed to me that it's more dependent on the level you just completed.

That download site doesn't work for me, why don't you use that mini-uploader thing?

Never mind that the only thing SMB 3 really has over Castlevania AoS is the publicity :p.

I suppose the best way to deal with the boss coins is just to throw them away when you pick them up. If picking up and throwing away coins counts as 0 coins, that is, since it'd be far too easy just to throw away any coins you run into...

Problem with jet dashing is that you need two hits to break blocks so you'd have to switch to bull Wario for those sequences (if you're bouncing off the blocks you waste a few additional seconds per block, I doubt the running speed would make up for that) and the powerups for switching back are pretty rare.

I don't think treasure ever thinks about lag, all of their GBA games lag like hell.

I can't seem to find any attempt at this game so here it goes: Motocross Maniacs seems to be inspired heavily by Excitebike, you drive a motorcycle, you run each course two times and you have to beat a set time, you can adjust your angle in mid air and use that to avoid crashing. The biggest difference is that the 8 tracks are sidescrolling (no depth) and contain loopings, multiple routes and powerups (that you normally lose after crashing but crashing wastes time so it wouldn't happen in a TAS anyway) and that the B button doesn't heat your engine but uses up one of your Nitro charges and gives you a BIG speed boost. Since it could potentially be driven very fast and involve lots of stunts it'd probably make for an enjoyable run. I know that holding up during a jump will give you a bit of extra height, enough to do all the loopings on track 1 but since it's slower than using nitro it should only be used if you absolutely need that Nitro elsewhere. I'd do a test run but I suck at that kind of stuff...
