The normal handgun is in normal mode as well, the silver handgun is only in hard. And the proton rifle can only be gotten through Boss Rush mode. Atma: I think he means dodging attacks by one pixel or frame and especially actions that look like they would damage you but don't.

Can you manipulate whether Mario closes the door behind him at the end of each stage? That could save quite some time (though it'd save frames only, no timeunits).

If you have to use the turtle you jumped off earlier anyway, why don't you just stay on the turtle? There's no use in moving faster if you have to wait for it to reach a certain point anyway. Or does the turtle reach that point faster if you run ahead?

Around 37000 there are two pools of lava, you jump into the first but use blizzard on the second one. Why?

Correct. He's designed to stop entering the ground (or ceiling) when Pirate Mines explodes on him regardless of whether or not he takes damage. To take advantage of this, I set them off when he's close enough to the ground/ceiling entry point where I damage him early but he still gets knocked around. Having one go off the moment he becomes vulnerable and another one the moment he'd be knocked back from it was not possible I suppose? Could you manipulate the rematch to be more like the first fight? The rematch had longer non-flashing periods if I saw that right.

There´s no other way to enable hard mode. SRAM is required, it´s a necessary evil. I think it won't be accepted. If something isn't accessible without save RAM that usually means it's not permitted for a TAS. That's to make sure the initial state and the game behaviour are known and standardized so noone can hide cheats in the saveRAM (perhaps using a buffer overflow exploit or somesuch) and do things the game wouldn't normally allow.

I'm quite sure GroundMan stopped flashing because Gigafrost wanted to prevent him getting in the ground or ceiling. You see, if he has a Remote Mine attached to him while he tries to enter ground/ceiling, it explodes and prevents him to get there. Often GM stopped flashing while on his way to the ceiling and the mine only blew up when he reached the ceiling. Do the mines not stop his jump if they explode before he reaches the ceiling?

Is it necessary to kill the enemies that come from the sides during a boss fight the frame they appear? That makes the boss fights rather uninteresting.

Groundman stopped flashing once during the first fight and quite a few times during the rematch. Was he invulnerable due to the attack he did and the mine damaged him on the first frame possible or did you just attach the mine too late? I suppose damaging the worm midboss in the Groundman stage wasn't possible during its first trip through the room?

Hard mode must be unlocked by finishing the game once. So we could either see a triple run-through (once normal, once hard, once Julius) or the run would have to use save RAM or savestates, which I don't think is acceptable.

I just think that if its extremely perfect, it may look artificial. That's fine, they aren't supposed to look natural on this site.

Since the Rygar run exploits the different speed in the PAL version to jump over a gap you can't jump over in the US version and that run got accepted I'd say using the PAL version to get over the gap is allowed. After all, it says in the rules that you can use a different version if you have a good reason to (in this case skipping one character).

What was the reason for using the potion in 1-1 and some later level?

You could shave off quite a few seconds by hitting submit on the first frame possible.

You should add a note for people to watch through the credits.

I have a feeling that a lower difficulty run would be slower instead of faster with this game. In the first level (or was it a later one?), for example, you can jump over the spikes in the run but at default difficulty there are three spikes in a row so you'd have to slow down and shoot them. Either way, it's obvious even without playing that this is a damn hard game at that difficulty level.

He uses the self-destruction again on a later boss. I think the no damage taken claim is upheld because he never takes damage from any source but his own abilities.

You should have redone the intro dungeon to use straferunning before adding more stuff to the movie... That really stands out like a sore thumb.

I suppose it's not more effective to punch the boss when he's near the ground immediately after spawning?

I think of the stars as an orientation "If you want to watch a first one to determine if you like TASes, try one of these".

It's been a while since a TAS made me go "this is f###ing sick" and yours did. Would be a yes vote if I had the necessary number of posts.

All these deathtraps sound like Nethack to me... "You are crushed by a falling ceiling tile" During the fight with the dragon it looks as if you activate the defensive spells longer than necessary, especially for the lightnings. Was that really the last possible frame to activate it or did you want to use it up faster or something? And what are the gray bars that build up during combat?

What happens if you hit death with the cross when it's returning? Can you pull him towards you?

That's what a glitch run should be, utterly confusing with a topping of "How the hell did he know that'd happen?". Just one question, why did you move a screen to the left before picking up the sword? Would picking it up there cause unwanted bugs or is it just faster to go a screen to the left?

The bossfights would be kinda stupid because the bosses can't handle circlestrafing. I even remember exploiting strafe walking to outrun a boss that was supposed to be faster than you...
