Well, since the Emulators are finally starting to get better for this particular system, I think it's about time to talk about a TAS for this game. I don't know if an emulator will ever perfectly run this game, or run it at all, but it's a hope I have. Perhaps Mupen+ is that hope.

I'm hoping someone will find a way to optimize the emulator for 100% emulation speed sooner or later. :3 I dunno, for some reason, the low speed seems to make my head hurt from time to time.

One thing you should know, though. If you have the Blue Shell equipped, you can't just up and switch to a Fire Flower or a Mini-Mushroom. The Blue Shell pretty much overrides it all.

The current published TAS has me wondering how long it will be before someone takes on a full 100% TAS of the game. :3 It IS a Mario Game, after all, and they've all been done 100% sooner or later. xD

I'm using FCE Ultra 0.98.15. You don't use the Japanese ROM with a patch -- you need the ROM of the actual translated (but unreleased) NES game. There should not be a "Zero" on the title screen. The name of my ROM file is "Earthbound_(U)_(Prototype).nes"
That is the name of my Rom as well. I should think that since it was a Prototype for a game that never got released in the US, a run with this rom should be acceptable. They obviously were planning on it, but scrapped it after completion for some reason.

It'd be a real shame if it wasn't accepted with the site accepting Mario and Metroid hacks. Just don't see why it would be denied when the patch can be checked for integrity and it's only a translation. Never really understood the policy on translation patches and why they aren't accepted.
My thoughts exactly. I also agree with Flygon. I've played the game with the translation. If not for the Translation, I doubt I'd have gotten very far. The Story Line is good, right up there with the Mother 2 one I guess.

Really, the only good Diablo based Speed Run, is the Diablo 2 100% Sorc Speed Run. The rest of them are just plain boring.

Well, Mupen+ Does look promising. I just hope it's gets to be perfectly playable sooner or later. It's still a bit slow for most intents and purposes in terms of normal play with games such as Mario Golf. But this is definately a good start. EDIT: Oh, I should also add I use Windows. xD

I gave the run a 9 for entertainment, in spite of that boring final boss fight, cause the run actually kept me entertained up until then. 8.5 for Tech. All in all, great run.

I would love to give my own rating for this, unfortunately, it seems my copies of Gens 9.5b and c don't want to run it without lagging like hell.

At any rate, I think it would make a good TAS. Don't really have a reason why, I just think it would. Whether other people do or not is up to them. This has always just been a very fun game to me.

In this game, taking Damage is nearly unavoidable, therefore, you HAVE to level up to avoid dying. If you've never played this game, you wouldn't know that though. Unfortunately, PCSX and ePSXe seem to have lag issues with this game in large areas, not to mention when fighting enemies, no matter what Video Plugin I use. So a TAS for this may have to wait a while in any case.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Julius run where he fights every boss. But then again, it's probably just me.

Oh, and I say Deadly Swarm, because it stuns most enemies while doing damage, allowing you to deal extra damage with your weapon without taking a ton of damage yourself.

Well, okay. For starters, you WILL have to level up, it's necessary for this game. Completion time, could be 1 and a half to 2 hours, depending on how much you decide to level up. Or as little as 40 minutes, if you decide to just rush through the game. In which case, one hit against you would likely be fatal. The most useful spells, would likely be Lightning, that Fireball spell you start with, Deadly Swarm, and Regeneration. The shields are mostly useless, unless you want to block about 90% of all damage against you. But you do still take damage. I would recommend spending all of the gold you get on Healing Potions and Mana Potions, rather than saving it for armor or new weapons. In my opinion, the best weapon, is probably the War Hammer, although it's slow. The Mace is just as good if it has a few ranks behind it. But most people opt to use the long Sword anyway. Any% or 100% is up to the TASer. 100% would include killing all enemies, therefore insuring your max out your level, getting all weapons, armors and shields, spells, items, and the weapon coins that add elements to your attacks. As well as completing all quests. Is that good enough for information? xD

I haven't started a blog or anything. And to be honest, I don't think I'm going to. The further I put bad memories out of my mind, the better off I am.

I think the first Metroid Prime movie should be a 100% TAS. xD But that's just me. But I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me, a 100% Metroid TAS, is way more entertaining. >:3

Only problem with doing a TAS for Gamecube games, is that the Roms are going to be over 1 gigabyte in size. xD

And I decided that now, I should come back to the forums. Could a few people please also seed the corrected avis of the Castlevania: Bloodlines movies? :3 I think they fixed the 1 second desynch.
