Hi-low. Me, Taco and Hero have been secretly working on a RBO, the very same RBO Spoofer and Hero used to work on but then got abandoned because Spoofer disappeared. We remade pretty much the entire run starting from Blue Brinstar, to include a trick which allowed us to collect the Blue Brinstar E-tank early, with a zero momentum CWJ (which saved about 1000 frames (!!)). We also smashed some serious Dinosaur butt, just to CWJ off of it to get into the right position to open the door with a warp around shot and then to finally shinespark through it. We just made it to LN and thought it would be a good time to WIP. Enjoy or something. RBO

Also, what is the biggest improvement known for these runs today?
Well, in the any% we got the new Maridia tube strat, new Baby Metroid skip and improved Mother Brain manipulation. And I'm pretty sure Draygon can be improved too, by charging the second shinespark a little earlier. Other than that, there are a few frame improvements in some rooms that should translate to most runs. Not quite sure about Hero's and Spoofer's RBO. Spoofer did disappear a long time ago, I tried talking to some of his online friends, but they didn't know where he had went either. Let's see if Hero can make a statement about this himself :3

You forgot to mention the speedbooster trick that allows you to surpass the speed limit. I'm pretty sure the high speed is the reason as to why the graphics are all messed up, no? Anyways, really stronk run, bro. Have a hell yes vote.

Hmm, for some reason I still can't watch this smv. Which is weird because the one you posted a few pages back went just fine. Did you actually save anything on that door, or was it just the egehogging? (because I have already remade that second room for a different reason)
This is actually all the way back to the Speedbooster room, with the level 1 locks. I didn't do anything more on the door. I tried, but I got nowhere.

Do you want me to make it into a video file? It could be the Rom Hack your using.
Don't really get why I can play his movies but he can't play mine. This is kind of odd. Anyways, the difference won't be noticed in an AVI, don't think you should bother.

Btw, Kriole, where you testing for something in particular there? I'm asking since it looks like that video has my TAS as a starting point (same ammo/energy/equipment), and I'm curious :P
Just checking if it can't be improved. I saw that you shot the door higher than you needed to. Also your edgehogging is suboptimal - you're not supposed to be locked in the turn animation when the debris crumbles. Pie Should be hexable. Edit:

Interesting, but do you stay stuck in the wall or can you get out?
Don't think you ever get out. Samus has to actually hit a wall to stop (or run out of energy, not relevant in this hack however), and since the game doesn't really think she ever does, she will just keep sparking.

When Samus sparks vertically or diagonally she is stuck a little bit inside the wall upon impact. Cornerboosting on the first possible frame can save 1-5 frames, depending how far into the wall you are. I noticed this saved a frame in one of the places you sparked. Should be easily hexable.

Here's a quick test I ran a few days back, hope it helps: Pie Minor improvements in the beginning, that's all.

Hello Hoandjzj! Solid and entertaining run as always, well done indeed. Apparently the speedbooster works the same way in this game as it does in redesign. This means that it is also possible to surpass a speed of 7.0 pixels/frame; holding dash for only one frame while sparking into slopes allows you to keep the speed of the spark, up to a maximum of 16 pixels/frame iirc. (Saturn used this to no end in his Redesign any%). This should save some time should you choose to ever do a new run. Sorry for not mentioning this earlier, but I thought the creator would have somehow fixed this bug.

I am probably missing something really obvious here but why didn't you just unminish in the builders hut after dropping the second book to the floor?
Need to flip the vase first. Though iIrc the vase only resets when you reset the game, so maybe visiting the hut before you get the second book might save some time. Edit: Never mind. I was checking the wrong house, hurrdurr. The vase in the workers hut is accessable.

The constant mandatory revisiting of the training grounds was somewhat annoying. Disregarding that, this run was really, really entertaining. Voted yes. A question though; after picking up the 6th book of the judges of something, isn't it possible to get the checkpoint to the left before getting the book and then reset before the conversation? Or is there no time to pause?

When fighting Chaos, is Mana Prism helpful?
Oof... maybe. Getting one from a Demon Lord is a big no-no, but the one in the Top Floor might work out. I'd have to check this.

That was really cool to watch :3. I noticed some inconsistencies though - random -5 frame loss while entering the Chaotic Realm (I checked and the new run was 2 frames faster, it looked like my v2 was loaded earlier or something) and a random +10 -9 gain/loss during the last Castle Corridor to Floating Gardens travel (around the Axe Armor before Creaking Skull). It looked like the video froze?

I do have a technical question. I noticed while watching Arkiandruski's comparison video that, sometimes, a screen would be identically played in both versions, from the movements of enemies to Soma's movements to which enemies dropped souls on what frame. This sometimes happens even when the prior screens are very different in both timing and souls dropped. Is this a result of you manipulating the RNG to be the same (or at least on a point in the cycle that yielded the same result) in both versions at the start of the identical screens?
I actually have no real answer for this, but I know what you're talking about. It's either one of 2 things: I just happen to line everything up like in my older runs, or something is resetting the RNG. While working on Final Guard in my any% I noticed that regardless of what I did in the Castle Corridor, the loot table for Final Guard was always the same. So I'm just gonna assume that red doors reset the RNG.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I added a description, although it still looks all cluttered like the last one. At least the submission page looks fine. And this is probably the wrong place to mention this, but I'm following this topic but I'm not getting any notifications? I have noticed the same issue with other threads =/.

Nice work, Kriole! Nice to see just how useful the blocking mail is -- will you keep it, or change to dracula's tunic?
What the hell? I remember answering this a few days ago. Meh. Anyways, I'll keep the Blocking Mail, since it saves more time thanks to glitched level-ups and allows me to skip some monsters. Also, I just entered Julius' room, 2869 frames ahead of my v2. The run should be finished in a day or two.

! This run was amazing, and I'd love to see it published. Many improvements even translate into the any%, which I have absolutely no intention of redoing. I'm gonna join the 'Submit Redesign Run'-movement.

Graham. Pie I was extremely unlucky with the Red Minotaur. All manipulation/additional soul drops around the Basilisks/Iron Golem were for the Red Mintoaur. Bleh. 1936 frames ahead of my v2.

What a wonderful run, Kriole! I watched your previous run many times and really enjoyed it!! I'm looking forward to completion of this WIP!!!
Thanks! I should be finishing this run fairly shortly, maybe in a week or 2 perhaps. Currently, I'm in the shaft just before the Top Floor. It's extremely boring to do, so I'm gonna finish it and hopefully reach Graham tomorrow. Pie Not quite sure how many frames ahead I am, I have yet to pause to switch to Giant Bat and Lubicant.

While the improvement is somewhat underwhelming, I think that this new strategy is way more entertaining :3 Progress is fairly decent, I just arrived at Balore. Erynis and the Lubicants were a nightmare, but I managed somewhat nicely. Pie 1706 frames ahead of my v2.

Finally done with Legion. It took a buttload of hex editing, and many many restarts of the fight. But now I'm 100% certain I cannot improve it more. I ended up 6 frames faster than my v2. Pie The absolutely worst part is finally dealt with. My goal is to reach Graham this week, if not more.

Luck manipulation in this game is horrible. Including enemy drops in a rupee route is a recipe for insanity, unless it's preceeded by a lot of RNG research and a LUA script. :/
Rolling, moving and, most importantly, swinging change the RNG. You can swing once every 2 frames and you can manipulate enemies while they are dying (the time between they have 0 hp and the drop actually appears). This suggests that manipulating drops is relatively easy.

I thought of a new strategy for Legion earlier today and I was really excited to test it out. The best part of the strategy is that it eliminates pause screens entirely. Currently, it's about 20 frames slower than my v2 fight, but with lag reduction it should end up about equally fast. I'm going to start hitting the upper right segment a little bit earlier so that I can camp on the right side of the room earlier. Also, changing his pattern towards the end should save some time. Hopefully I might trigger a faster death animation, which will make the fight a lot faster than in my v2. Using Bone Pillar instead of Great Armor might also be a good idea. Saves me another pause screen later on. Pie Enjoy!

Isn't it the best soul for legion? And you need to kill legion before cleanup to get galamoth (to get chronomage to get skyfish...)
You had me worried there for a second D:. Luckily, a quick test shows that Nightmare works just as fine, if not better; it can hit all parts twice and costs 30 mana instead of 50. About 130 damage instead of 300 or whatever Valkyrie does. It kinda sucks how Nightmare smashes all other souls, it's starting to get old.

Hello! It's been quite a while since I last posted a WIP, I haven't worked very much during the holidays, but I started a few days ago and progress has been excellent, ignoring the fact that I had to redo the Death to the Warp room segment probably 3 or 4 times. There are some really cool time savers in this WIP. I passed through the cog with a kick instead of a high jump, since I had the Bone Pillar equipped. I skipped the Valkyrie soul, since there are many opportunities to get it during the clean-up. Man-Eater was improved GREATLY. Not only did I have enough mana to use Lightning Doll twice, but I also managed to hit 2 of the eyes 3 times with Lightning Doll (rather unimpressive feat, but Man-Eaters garbled cooldown makes this extremely hard). I also managed to do a glitched level-up screen on the Man-Eater, which was ridiculously hard without taking damage. The rest is pretty self-explanatory. Many pause screens were skipped, which is quite awesome. Pie 1272 frames ahead of myself. And thank you to anyone who voted for my v2 in the awards! I think that was really cool.
