I've been meaning to ask about the mechanics of Speed vs. Ice over at Metroid 2002, but I keep forgetting. Are the Metroids not killed by the blue suit, unlike every other creature? I know it would probably be slower, but could it be published as a demo?

Is anyone working on/thinking about doing an alternate 14%, ie taking Speed Booster instead of Ice Beam?

Is this any faster than the standard methods? It seems like the first wall pass-through is slower than climbing the normal way.

Yes. I'm seconding the love for the Jap rom choice. The background animation in levels five and eight were really cool. Why would they be left out of the US release? The NES and Famicom were essentially the same hardware, right?

They tested the possibility of basing the Starfox engine off of the Zelda engine. Then they didn't delete the work they had done. I'd say it makes perfect sense. A lot less development is required if you base one engine off of another. It just so happens that it wound up left over in the code.
Wasn't the Zelda engine itself based on another engine, that of Mario 64? Or am I mistaken? And to that end, what kinda crazy crap might be left over in Mario 64?

It's the little things that make a run like this. Echoing everyone's love for the input matching music. A hearty yes from me.

The one I always used was the coast of the Seafoam Island that you surf from Fuschia to get to.

On a completely unrelated note, I somehow picked up 128 NUGGETS.
I'll field this one. Encountering Missingno sets the quantity of the sixth item in your inventory to 128. Fun to use with rare candies.

Does SDA have a page about this game?
No, no run at SDA. So...

The current non-TAS run is apparently a little over 9 hours, so if someone were able to beat it in about 8, that would give everyone else something to shoot down... er, shoot for.
Where did you find this? Is that the record on Twin Galaxies? I find them a little hard to believe, since they don't have video proof... at least, I haven't been able to find a video on the site. EDIT: No entry there either...

The three-month bump. I'm not even sure who's working on this now, if anyone. Wandering Road: You can pick up one at least one Ice Rod in the burning house in Thamasa, maybe two, I don't recall. That would cut down on the amount of money you'd need to come up with. Sprint Shoes are 1500 bucks a pop, and it would only be feasible to buy all three at the same time in the shop in S. Figaro, but you'd need that money ahead of time, obviously.

Voted yes. Those warps totally caught me off guard. Too bad I don't know this game as well as you do, otherwise I might actually know what is going on. But it looks good, and it's faster than the previous submission.

Wow a TAS on that website?? Considering how adamant Nate is about anti-TAS, I'm very surprised. Luckily, he still found the time to let everyone know he's above all of us:

Also, this intro screen he made to that TAS: Cheated? Ridiculous. What a closed-minded person. </annoyed>
And he readily admits it as well. But this should fly under the radar over there, since he rarely even enters the Fusion forum, let alone keeps current on threads.

How could I vote anything but yes with such a ringing endorsement from hero?

Save half a minute, lose two and a half... Not worth it to run PAL. EDIT: Damn, didn't mean to break the page...

Yeah, no clue what's going on in this game. But it was fun to watch nonetheless. Since I can't read Japanese (and even if I could, you skip all the cutscenes) I don't know what the hell is going on. I'm assuming the heroine is some sort of spirit hunter? But yeah, looks good, and first drafts can always be improved.

Maybe I have misunderstood you Daniel. With movie-file I always mean the smv file which you can playback on Snes9x it is not a AVI file.
I actually meant a completed run, but it didn't come out that way, and someone else asked after that and you answered.

I am able to vote now, so I vote yes, since I was finally able to see this game beaten. I couldn't beat it myself, even when cheating!

Good old Nate of Metroid 2002 recently posted his individual level runs of Sonic 2 on Genesis at SDA, which gets a time of 21:04 by the in-game timer, and about 26:32 total going by the length of each movie file. The currently published TAS of Sonic 2 here clocks in at 21:40, but goes from power on to last input, and the AVI is 25:39. Level times (Nate's time) Emerald Hill 1 - 0:18 (0:20) Emerald Hill 2 - 0:36 (0:39) Chemical Plant 1 - 0:17 (0:26) Chemical Plant 2 - 0:51 (1:09) Aquatic Ruin 1 - 0:19 (0:29) Aquatic Ruin 2 - 0:38 (0:51) Casino Night 1 - 0:25 (0:36) Casino Night 2 - 0:55 (1:10) Hill Top 1 - 0:39 (0:53) Hill Top 2 - 0:48 (1:11) Mystic Cave 1 - 0:28 (0:42) Mystic Cave 2 - 0:37 (0:50) Oil Ocean 1 - 0:26 (0:41) Oil Ocean 2 - 0:48 (1:00) Metropolis 1 - 0:54 (1:12) Metropolis 2 - 0:50 (1:17) Metropolis 3 - 1:30 (2:20) Sky Chase - fixed length auto-scroller Wing Fortress - 1:42 (2:05) Death Egg - 0:42 (1:07) Those times ain't too shabby. *edited for proper link address*

Question for hero of the day: How did you get the Mud Imp to not cure all for 150 when you struck him? Every time I've ever fought that battle and hit the Mud Imp he always immediately cast a cure-all for 150 points.
