I just watched the SMB3 run. It was a very good run, but I just have one comment. In the room before Bowser, there are some blocks that look like this: OO ..........O .....................---- You went like this: ---- OO.\........./\ ........\___/...\ ...........O.......\ ......................\ ......................---- When I go through that area I just jump from the X to the X (bumping Mario's head on the ceiling during the jump) in the following diagram, which is a little faster, and it's an easy jump so you should be able to get it every time, and the fireball is enough out of the way that there's no danger of hitting it: ..X OO ..........O ......................X ......................----

I'm not bored enough to spend more than 10 seconds trying to save a single frame That's nothing. You should be willing to spend an hour to save a single frame :P

Everything was faster than the 40:25 run except I think 3 parts - K Rool, Poison Pond and Torchlight Trouble (each about 1-5 frames slower). I got Squawks early on in Torchlight so you can at least see what's going on (trade off of 10 frames). Why did you lose time in K Rool and Poison Pond? Also, you shouldn't have given up time to get Squaks because going through the level at full speed in the dark looks cooler. Rambi and Expresso go at the same speed no matter what you do with them Is that just for level ground? I'm pretty sure you can go faster by jumping with Rambi if you're going uphill. Edit: In Millstone Mayhem, why did you switch to Donkey Kong and then immediately get hit? Edit 2: As I was watching the movie, you died in Tanked Up Trouble. It looked like the tire was supposed to land on the edge platform, but instead it fell off, so when you tried to jump on it you died. Does this happen for you also or do I have the wrong ROM? I'm using Donkey Kong Country (U) (V1.0) [!].

The people who claimed or claimed to have witnessed legit times under 11 minutes are the same people who like to flame the videos, so they can't be trusted. They most likely made it up to help prove their point that we suck at games.

If TG is willing to accept videos recorded with a digital camera, then I'd be willing to get some scores for the animal bonus games on a real SNES and submit them. If not then I won't be submitting any scores since I'm too lazy and/or cheap to mail a tape to them. Edit: Also, if I remember correctly you need to give them your address in order to register with TG, so that's another reason not to submit times to them. Edit 2: I just noticed that it's possible to register for their forums without joining the other part of the site, so I just registered.

I just tried level 1 some more and I beat the 40 minute run by 3 frames in level 1. Edit: I just beat the 40 minute run by 7 frames in level 1. Edit: I just completed the second level 9 frames slower than the 40 minute run.

Daniel V compared both mine and yours and said that your run is about 1-2 seconds faster overall (d'oh). What did you need Daniel V for? You can easily compare the two runs by clicking on search for cheats to look up the value of the timer. Btw, in case anyone's interested, I completed level 1 with both bonus levels without save states 1 frame faster than Penev did in his 40 minute run :)

I think Deviance is still planning on doing ALttP after he's done with DKC, but he decided that he's not gonna do LoZ. I still haven't decided whether I'm gonna do LoZ. Awhile ago I was thinking of doing SMB3 but now that you got 11:15 I don't think I'll be able to beat that. Another game I might have had a chance of getting a world record in was DKC, but now Deviance took it out of my reach, so now I'll need to find some other game I'm good at.

Sleepz, what happened to your 11:15 run? Did you submit it anywhere yet? It's been awhile and I haven't seen any anouncements about it at the TG forums and I haven't seen the vid at SDA yet.

I just got 906 in the Rambi bonus game, so now I'll move onto the other bonus games. Edit: I just got 916, and unlike the 906, this time I remembered to record it, so I'll be uploading the zmv soon. Edit 2: Expresso - 802 Edit 3: Expresso - 888 Edit 4: Expresso - 950 Edit 5: Expresso - 962 Edit 6: Expresso - 974 Edit 7: Expresso - 994 Edit 8: Expresso - 999 (time to move onto another bonus game now) Edit 9: Winky - 872 Edit 10: Winky - 917 Edit 11: Winky - 920 Edit 12: Winky - 930 Edit 13: Winky - 93x (the last digit got cut off by some black thing in the background) Edit 14: Winky - 951 Edit 15: Winky - 997 Edit 16: Winky - 999 Edit 17: Enguarde - 918 Edit 18: Enguarde - 929 Edit 19: Enguarde - 940 Edit 20: Enguarde - 955 Edit 21: Enguarde - 976 Edit 22: Enguarde - 993 Edit 23: Enguarde - 999 (yay, I'm done!)

It seems like Penev gave up on beating my DKCCC score, so does anyone want to compete with me in the animal bonus games? That might be a little more interesting since a lot of other people have scores for them so I would have something to compare my scores to. Edit: I just got a pathetic score somewhere in the 500s for the Rambi bonus game. Edit 2: Rambi - 632 Edit 3: Rambi - 722 (Btw, does anyone have a link to any good videos for the animal bonus games? I think I remember there being some French site that had videos but I don't have the link.) Edit 4: Rambi - 770 Edit 5: Rambi - 840 Edit 6: Rambi - 844 Edit 7: Rambi - 845 Edit 8: Rambi - 872 Edit 9: Rambi - 875 Edit 10: Rambi - 876 Edit 11: Rambi - 888

well, arc does, bisquit doesnt i think Bisqwit doesn't have any original console runs on his site so there's nothing to separate.

Sorry, I had to go somewhere, but I'm back home now so I'll continue searching for the proper code. Edit: Does anyone know if the timer runs while the game is paused? Edit 2: I'm not absolutely sure about this since it's kind of confusing, but I think you can tell whether the timer is running based on whether the value at address 7E0046 is changing. Edit 3: Btw, I think I remember someone suggesting that maybe the DKCCC timer starts at 5:01 since it's blocked out by the blackness. I had forgotten that Snes9x lets you look at the values at the different addresses, but I just tested it and the timer really starts at 5:00, not 5:01. Edit 4: I found two other address that seem to be somehow related to the timer, but are used for bigger units of time and change less often. I'm not sure what the difference is between these two address. The two addresses are 7E002B and 7E0047. Edit 5: Forget 7E002B, it changes while the game is paused and I'm pretty sure the timer doesn't.

find a code that reveals the game's timer so we can see whether using start-select in bonuses is worth it. I think I'd have some trouble finding a code that does that, but I'll see if I can come up with anything that has a similar effect or could be used for the same purpose. Edit: What I might be able to do is find out where the game stores the information about whether or not the timer is running. Would that be useful to you? Edit 2: I also might be able to find out where the game stores the information about what the timer is currently at. Edit 3: I can't figure out how to tell if the timer is running, so I'll see if I can find out where the game stores the information about what the timer is currently at.

The advantage of using the code is that in each of those two levels, the level will look the same as it would look while the level is normally light, so maybe you'll like the look of the light better. Anyway, would you like me to try to find any other codes in DKC? You can find all sorts of crazy codes using Snes9x's search for cheats option.

In case anyone wants to do any more DKC save state runs, enter the PAR code 7E057A03, and it'll stop blinking in blackout basement. Edit: This code also works in loopy lights.

I just got 4897 without save states. The end wasn't timed perfectly so I would have had time to get a few extra bananas which would have brought me over 4900, but other than that I've just about reached my potential with my current strat. If Penev beats my score now it looks like I'll have to use the strategy that involves getting to the moving platform quickly instead of waiting for it to come down again.

I can't beat it unless I know your strategy, because I highly doubt you are sticking to the same route. I've beaten 4620 before using states. What I did was i re-entered the winky room until the clock was about 22-23 (21 being the borderline minimum) then I went to get the G (I had collected the N before the winky room for this reason, using the tyre) and then I got the last bonus in the level and finished the level... as diddy enters Orangutan Gang (0:00 on the clock) the counter goes up 200 for finishing the level. So in the final 22 seconds, I would have got 110 for the KON+G, 50 for the last bonus, about 20-30 for random bananas and kremlings and 200 for completing the level = almost 400 pts. By going straight for the winky room and ignoring the N in the same movie file, I only got mid 4500s, so it seems that finishing the level is 100pts better off (and much harder, it's easy to die).
Thanks for the strategy, I just got 4818 without save states. It wasn't even such a great run, I think my potential with this strategy is around 4850. Edit: I just got 4837, and it was a pretty clean run so I'm gonna take a break from this for now.

I can't beat it unless I know your strategy, because I highly doubt you are sticking to the same route. I actually did use the same route, the only major difference was that I got the hidden 6 life balloon at the end of level one, which is worth about 200 points. Anyway, I'll try out that strategy you just posted and maybe I can get over 4700 without save states. Edit: How do you skip Croctopus chase? Is there a way to skip past it on the map or did you find a warp barrel?

4615!!! Beat that Penev :P Btw, as always in no save state runs, there was a miniscule mistake in this run, so if I really worked at it I might be able to improve by another 10 points, but I think I'll let someone beat me before I try again.

If anyone wants to be able to play all the levels, enter this code that I just found to give yourself infinite time: 7E056F01 Edit: Btw, if you think you're too good for this game and you want a challenge, try entering this code to get the timer to count down by tens: 7E056F00 Edit: After Orangutan Gang is an ice level, but I don't remember what it's called. Edit 2: After the ice level is another ice level with crystals in the background with a blue rope at the beginning that you can get to by bouncing off a kremling. Edit 3: After that is another ice level. I'm not too familiar with the order of the levels in this game, but can someone tell me if this is about the same as the real game? Edit 4: Then comes a water level. Edit 5: After the water level the game seems to freeze.

I got the idea of 40 points from something you said. ;) Yeah, I know, I used to think it was 40 until Penev pointed out to me that it was 50 so then I tried it out and it really was 50. Btw, I just got 4468, so it looks like Penev has some catching up to do. I still didn't get the banana bunch under the K.
