Entering the bonus room gives you 50 points. Also, I just checked and Penev just barely made the entrance as his time ran out, so he did get the 50 points. Right as the timer ran out his score went up from 4371 to 4421.

Assuming you do the bonus room loop exactly as he did that would still leave you with an extra 2 seconds in the end, which is enough to enter the bonus room one last time. I think the bonus room loop (including jumping on the Winky crate) takes slightly less than 5 seconds, so to go through an extra time would mean giving up points to save time somewhere else.

We both just barely made entering the bonus room when the timer stopped. Edit 3: I just got 4436 with a missed kremling in level 2. I also messed up really badly on one of the jumps in the bonus room at the end and lost about half a second so maybe I would have been able to jump on the Winky crate an extra time. Unless there are some strats that I don't know, I think my no save state potential is somewhere around 4460.

You were 2 seconds ahead of Alex by the time you reached the Winky Bonus so you had time to pick it up even though it didn't appear in the best spot. If I picked it up I would have missed entering the bonus room since I just barely made it. Edit: That thing about Diddy needing to be in the air seems to work, now someone just needs to figure out that thing about the bounce under the K. It can't be height that controls it because there have been times when I've bounced off it when it was close to it's lowest point and I didn't hold down the jump button and the K still came out.

May I remind you I had a terrible Winky bonus myself, so don't complain about bad Winky bonuses :) I was talking about the bonus room in the last level that you go through over and over. Anyway, there must be somewhere that I'm losing time because Penev made a few mistakes in his run and I didn't make any but in both our runs the timer stopped just as we were entering the bonus room, so I must be doing wrong that I don't realize. I'll upload my run in a few minutes so you can see it. Edit: Penev, would it be ok with you if I do a run in Zsnes so I can use autofire at the end to jump as early and low as possible each time I enter the bonus room, or would you consider that cheating? Edit 3: Btw Penev, the reason I've been playing so long has nothing to do with me not being able to be consistent, it's the random things that keep messing me up. Recently almost all of my runs either get messed up in level 2 because the banana bunch doesn't show up (I thought I had figured that one out but apparently I just got lucky a few times in a row, I still mess up very often there), or because the bounce under the K in the last level doesn't work. I still haven't figured out what controls whether those two things work or not, so maybe if you know and you could tell me you might see me starting to beat my scores in 20-30 minutes. Edit 4: It's not fair, about 5 runs in a row just got ruined because the banana bunch in level 2 won't show up. *starts crying*

I would have beaten your score a long time ago, but for some reason I keep missing that kremling. I've had so many good runs ruined just because I missed that kremling, and I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Edit: This is really frustrating, I have all but the last level mastered really well and I'm getting good runs pretty often now, but I keep messing up in the last level. Sometimes I mess up when I bounce on the ground under the K, and even when I do that correctly I almost always miss the first kremling in the long role. Also, in level two when I skip the bonus level and then throw the barrel at the kremlings, sometimes the banana bunch appears and sometimes it doesn't, and I can't figure out why. I think these are the three things that I'm having the most trouble with, so I hope someone can give me some advice on how to do these things correctly. Edit 2: After a little practice I think I can get the bananas in level 2 to come out just about every time now, but I'm still having trouble with those two things in the last level. Edit 3: I just had another amazing run that got ruined by missing that kremling in the last level. I've been practising for so many hours today that I can own Penev in the first few levels in my sleep (well maybe I'm exaggerating a little but it's almost like that), but all my good runs keep getting ruined in the last level. Edit 4: The part where you bounce under the K is still puzzling me, but I think I figured out the long role. The trick is not to role late, since the ground is a little slanted at the edge, it'll give you a small speed boost if you role over it. Anyway, I just got 4417. I have no idea why I didn't beat Penev. I skipped the same banana bunch as last time, but I made up for it by getting a banana bunch that he didn't get in level 2. I also did the levels a tiny bit faster than him. Maybe I'm losing time at the end for not making the jumps in the Winky bonus room accurate enough. Does anyone know if Snes9x has an autofire option? That would save a little time at the end.

I have another question, when I bounce on the ground under the K between the two kremlings, sometimes the banana bunch comes out and sometimes it doesn't. Do you know what causes it to come out? I'm not sure if it's height because sometimes I land on it from really high and nothing happens, but other times I've when I've landed on it from a little lower the banana bunch did come out. This is another thing that seems a little random.

For that kremling I missed during the long role, sometimes I hit him and sometimes I don't and it seems kind of random, do you know if there are there any tricks to hit him every time?

But I do notice that you do not collect as many banana bunches. I know I didn't get the one that comes out of the ground in the fifth level, but are there any others that I didn't get? The reason I had to miss that banana bunch was so I wouldn't miss the 50 points at the end. Since I need to miss that banana bunch to have enough time at the end, there must be somewhere that I'm losing time, but I can't figure out where. I'll upload my 4407 run in a few minutes so you can see if you can figure out where I'm losing time. Btw, I don't think those two banana bunches in level 2 are worth it. Edit: I just got 4407 with a missed a kremling in the fifth level. Besides that missed kremling, everything went perfectly, so I can't figure out why Penev's score was higher. There's probably some place where he's gaining a second or two on me that I don't realize.

Are you going to submit it to SDA so everyone can see it? Edit: Btw, what were all your level completion times? Also, now that you're done with the speed run, you should try doing some individual level speed runs and try to beat some of my times. You should also try doing a warpless speed run to submit to TG. They have the rules for warpless runs in one of the topics in their forums.

Forget what I said about getting every bonus level, Penev discovered that it's better to skip the first bonus level in level 2. Btw, my best score now is 4318 and Penev's best score now is 4336. Edit: I just beat Penev with a score of 4353 :)

How do you get 100 lives in a matter of seconds? I knew about the balloons up in the trees, but that's nowhere near 100 and it would take awhile to gather so many lives by reentering the level so many times. Btw, I just got 4275.

We've been discussing strats through AIM. Here are a few strats that might help you: In the fifth level, when you get up to the bonus level with Winky in it just keep going through it over and over. Make sure you get the KONG letters in every level, and also get all the bonus levels. If you're unsure whether to waste time getting more points somewhere, only get them if you can get about 12 points or more per second.

I just got 4143. Edit: Penev just got 4008 without save states but he got hit twice. Edit 2: My best score now is 4266 and Penev's best score now is 4247.

Ok, here's my trick: I'm not sure if it's faster than just continuing and trying to beat the level, but once I get to the point where I do the trick it takes absolutely no effort, I don't have to worry about messing up, and I get points pretty quickly. In the level just before Orangutan Gang (I forgot what it's called), there's a bonus room with Winky in it, so just keep going through that bonus room over and over and you'll get 40 points each time. Actually my time isn't really that great because yesterday Penev told me that he got 4008, so I'll need to practice some more. Edit: I just did another run with a few more tricks added in, and I got 3841. I'm getting closer... Edit 2: I just did another run with just about the same strategy as last time but it was a little cleaner, but I still messed up a few times so it can still be improved. My score was 3961. Btw, I recorded it so let me know if you want to see it. Edit 3: I just beat Penev with a score of 4023, and it's recorded. Edit 4: I just got 4082. Penev got 4200ish, but there was a misunderstanding and he didn't realize that I wasn't using save states, so his scores were with save states, so he's gonna do another run without save states. Edit 5: I forgot to mention that my 4082 run is also recorded. Edit 6: I got 4096 and recorded it.

In my 3625 run I didn't die at all, but I did use a clever trick that the programmers probably didn't think of. Btw, I just got 3677.

I just tried a different strategy and this time I got 3549. Edit: My last run was a little sloppy so I just did a cleaner run using the same strategy and I got 3625.

I just got 3091 in the DKC competition cartridge. It was a pretty good run, but I think I can improve it by a few more hundreds with some more practice. Does anyone want to try to beat me? Edit: I just tried again and got 3163. Edit 2: I just got 3215. Edit 3: I just got 3375. Edit 4: I got 3481, and then shortly after that I got 3494. Unless I'm not using the best strategy, I think I've just about reached my potential, so I don't think I'll be able to beat 3494. I also recorded it, so if anyone wants to see it let me know and I'll send you the smv. Btw, does anyone think it would be a good idea to submit this movie? Even though it was done at 100% speed with no re-records it's really good.
