I have 3 questions: 1. Why didn't you use the warp glitch in the NTSC run? 2. Are you going to do tests to find out if the programmers intentionally added in a penalty for using the warp glitch? 3. You seem to be online now, so can you send me those 2 movies?

Yeah, a beta run sounds like a good idea especially for such a long game.

I've downloaded this thing like six times and it's always corrupt. Here's hoping it works today ;) Did you try all the different links? If the fileplanet link doesn't work then maybe the archive.org link works.

Is anyone interested in competing with me in the DKC competition cartridge? I just downloaded the rom and tried it out and I got 2466 points on my first try without save states. I know it's not so great, but at least I didn't die at all. Edit: I tried a second time and got 2855, but it could have been a lot better because I died twice.

He can zip it and then it'll be under 100 KB.

The only stunts that should be pulled off are stunts that don't waste time, unless it's supposed to be a tricks video. For example, in my SMB video I did a cool looking stunt at the end of 8-3 that didn't waste time because I had to slow down anyway to avoid the fireworks. I also did some fancy enemy stomping, but that was ok since I was always running to the right at full speed the whole time.

I think the speed is the major thing that makes the movie entertaining, so you should never slow down just to be fancy.

I don't think flying through levels would be a problem, just stay close to the ground get as many coins and bounce off of as many enemies as possible while flying. Also, I don't like the dragon coin idea, only get them if it doesn't waste any time, but don't go out of your way to get them.

In addition to just telling people to make better runs, the judges also have to be more careful not to accept runs that aren't good. The bad runs that were already mistakenly accepted should be removed.

Is there any way to sort the movie submissions by date?

Could somebody please move this thread to the Workbench forum? That is where it belongs, my mistake. I suppose I could do that if I wanted to, but Bisqwit locked the workbench forum so if I did move it then you wouldn't be able to post in this topic any more. Also, Bisqwit said that "Movie planning can be done in the NES/SNES/Genesis forums".

All I can find is "don't request for ROMs". Try looking at the top of the page, under where it says Nesvideos discussion board. It says "Please do not fill the forums with movie requests."

In my latest run, I died about three times and still managed to get 50. In fact, the only way I can pull of 48 minutes is if I don't get hit at all and play through the whole thing perfectly, which has only happened a couple of times. So yes, I'm confident that 48 is unbeatable, and unless I can pull of a 47 minute run any time soon, I'll just go ahead with that. ...unless Penev knows some good time saving strategies. I was going to ask him but then I forgot all about it, so if he's online tonight I'll try to remember.

I agree. The judges need to be stricter, and only excellent movies should be accepted.

Btw, another question I forgot to ask is how do I change what catergories a movie is in?

> I also noticed that only some movies sorted by genre, so you should put all the movies in a particular genre. I don't understand what you mean. Yesterday when I checked, only a small portion of the movies were catagorized into a certain genre, but now I noticed that you categorized almost all of them so it's fine now. Edit: Create a link that refers to the new page, and then click the "?". You can also take the "edit movie" page address and replace the page name with your new page name, but it's recommended to create links first - this ensures the page won't become an orphan. Note that the page names should follow the wiki convention: JoinCapitalizedWords, no special characters. Once I create a new page, is there any way to change the name of the page or delete the page?

As for the low rerecord count - why should it be in the thousands? Do you plan on getting through every level as fast as possible? Do you plan on making it look very fancy? Do you plan on making every single movement at exactly the right frame to shave off miniscule amounts of time? If you barely use any re-records it's not going to look very good.

74 rerecords, 9:58. What's this supposed to be, a speed run that displays skill or a speed run that's supposed to be perfect? It doesn't make sense to have something in between. At 9:58 your re-record count should be at least in the 1000s. I've got the first two worlds done - the Hammer Brothers decided to play hide and seek with me, though, so I had to do an extra level. And I forgot that toad houses DON'T make them move. If the hammer bros. don't do what you want them to do, why don't you just affect the randomness? That's what re-records are for. Also, if you forgot something and did something wrong you should just do that part over instead of leaving in the mistake.

The problem turned out to be that I didn't realize that I had to enter my name with capitilizations so I had been entering it as "michael fried" instead of "Michael Fried". Now that I'm able to login, I have a few questions and comments. 1. Besides looking through the recent changes page, is there any way to get to the page with all the personal pages? I think it would make more sense if the page that lists all the players links to their personal pages. 2. Are people able to submit fmvs that they don't want to be published? If so, how do you specify whether you want it to be published when you submit it? Also, after you submit a movie, can you unsubmit it and have it removed from the site? 3. Is there any way to see all the movies submitted by a particular person? I think the movies that each person submits should be automatically linked to on their personal pages. I also think that the description of each published movie should link to a list of all the submitted movies for that game. 4. There should be a way to submit articles to the site (such as a listing of glitches in a game, a walkthrough, or anything else that might be of interest) that would be linked to on your personal page, and possibly linked to in the description of the game that the article is about (or if you set up the page to automatically create lists of all submitted movies for each game, links to the articles could be on that page). 5. Now that I'm able to login and I found out I'm an editor, I'm able to edit pages that already exist, but is there any way for me to create new pages? 6. On the movies page, you should be able to sort movies by player. I also noticed that only some movies sorted by genre, so you should put all the movies in a particular genre.

as each one costs a half second delay or so Not if you get pushed in the direction that you want to go in. In LoZ, Sleepz sometimes got enemies to push him to get through rooms faster. Edit: so do you think it would be possible to never have to out of your way for ruppees by exploiting randomness? Not even going into the gambling shop. And I'm talking only killing monsters you have to but having them drop good. If you can get enough rupees from enemies then you won't have to play the gambling game as many times, but you'll have to compare them to see whether you lose or gain more time.

wouldn't it also take some time to kill yourself when your life is (assumingly) maxed out? I can't imagine it would look very good getting hit consecutively to kill off Link. He could get hit in many places throughout the level where it either wouldn't waste him any time or would save him time, and once he needs to take the shortcut, getting killed will be very quick. Even if it did take a long time, if you can save even more time by taking the shortcut then it's worth it. I believe only non-teleportation glitches should be used. What about the glitch I used in 4-2 in SMB? Should that have been allowed?

Death mountain decent (lets you skip most of the first world) Exploration glitch(many cannot be done on actual console, this would allow you to skip the whole game pretty much) Levitation glitch(lets you float over nothing, can't be done on console) Even though you aren't officially bound by any rules about how you play the game and are actually encouraged to look for any possible glitches to exploit, some glitches, such as the left+right glitch in Aol, would just ruin the whole game, so I think you should skip those glitches that you mentioned since it would make the movie less entertaining, but I think most of the smaller glitches, and also save/quit, should be used. Edit: It seems like item randomness could be exploited alot to get tons of ruppies but this would be very tedius, not sure how much should be done. Always exploit randomness as much as possible, you should keep killing each enemy over and over until it drops the correct item. Sometimes it's impossible to get it to drop the item you want, but whenever it is possible you should take advantage of it. Also it might be faster to die in couple of places. Should it be allowed? Some people on this site don't like the idea of using death as a shortcut, but I think it should be allowed. Also what is the most reliable way to time stuff to see which is the faster of two methods? First use the first strategy, and check the length of the smv, and then use the second strategy, and check the length of the smv again. Before trying the second strategy you should make a copy of the smv so if the first strategy is faster you won't have to do it over again.

And why would you need to puase to save and load state Because it would be kind of ackward having to reach over to press shift+f1-9 without taking my fingers off the keys. I would also only be able to save in places where I have the same combination of keys pressed for a few seconds. WHy don't you people use a program similar to joy2key and map shift button to Pause, it's that simple, wtf are you people talking about? I never heard of that program. Is it free? If so, then can you tell me where I could get it? Anyway, I'm going to try playing DSH in ZSNES again and I'll see if I can beat the level at 341. Edit: I can't get to that door at 371, I keep missing by about .2 seconds. Edit 2: I just came so close, the timer switched to 370 about .1 seconds before I entered the door.
