In DP1, I'm not sure if it saves actual time, but you can save some time units by entering the pipe as your flying and then exiting immediately through the pipe on your left.

You'd have to complete the game to even get to the second area, since it shoots you in to the middle of Orangutan Gang. You could just get up to Orangutan Gang normally and then go back and warp to it using the glitch. Don't forget that the timer doesn't run on the map screen.

I'm not sure, but I think I remember Alex Penev once saying that the warp glitch saves time (of course it does in a normal speed run but I think he was talking about a 100% speed run). I don't remember what the level looks like too well since I haven't played the game recently, but maybe by using the glitch you can save distance by being closer to something than you would be by starting from the beginning. Edit:
Regardless, I only have 15 more levels to optimize, so expect my run to show up sometime soon. :)
Don't forget that even after you get all the levels optimized, you still have to get a good run through all the levels without messing up, and also beat Snapdragon's time. I don't know exactly how good you are so this may or may not be easy for you, but if you can get something like 48 minutes without saving you'll be pretty famous in the video game world, and I guarantee it'll be a front page story at TG.

Bisqwit, are you going to fix the smb2j movie description where it says how much faster it is?

I've discovered how to beat DKC in under 30 minutes If that's with 100% completion, that's pretty cool and I can't wait to see it. If not, it's no surprise, just take the warp to the third world and I assume it shouldn't be too hard. In case anyone doesn't know about this glitch, here's the paragraph about it at David Wonn's website: Warp glitch sent in by Ryan Murray I believe this was actually featured in a Nintendo Power article, but we were playing with it long before that issue even appeared. In the very first world, when Donkey and Diddy are wandering around the map, there is a section right before you enter the right half of the world where the path they walk on (the dotted lines) has several corners...I actually believe it is right after Cranky's house. Well, as your character passes over these corners, you need to pretty much mash the A, B, and Y buttons, as well as the L and R buttons....heck, just hit EVERY button, and, if timed right, the screen will fade out. When it comes back in, you'll come out of a barrel in the middle of a stage in the middle of the third world! This trick always seemed to work best when I only had one character (I.E. Diddy, no Donkey; Donkey, no Diddy), and it can also be performed (with different results) wherever there is a corner on the map screen. [Ed. note: To do this easily with two characters, go to Funky's Flights so that you appear as one plane.]

When I'm doing a whole game speed run I don't do it the same way as in a level speed run, and I don't get up to full speed before the bricks. If I remember correctly my best time (as part of a whole game speed run) for starting with super Mario and ending with raccoon Mario and getting the whistle is 283.

I think the one Bisqwit uses is called smb2j.fds, but I don't think that's the official name for that rom. Edit: There's also another way you could have saved time in a few places. Every time you do a wall jump to get up to higher ground, such as 1-2 and 5-1, you should do the walljump backwards since the corner doesn't slow you down as much. I haven't tried it yet in smb2j, but it worked in smb (like when I did the walljump in 8-4 backwards), so I assume it should work the same way in smb2j. Now with the 60 fps hack this works even better since you only have to press left for 1 frame so you barely slow down at all. If you did that in the movie you posted, maybe you would have been going fast enough to do the wall jump higher up. Another possibility that probably doesn't work (though I've never tried it) is to do 2 walljumps on the same wall. First do the walljump lower on the wall, and then do a second walljump higher up, and then you'll be able to reach the higher ground. This would obviously be too hard with the normal Famtasia, but maybe it could be pulled off with the 60 fps hack.

I didn't watch it yet, but in 8-4 were you able to get the plant to not be in the way so you don't have to wait for it to go down before entering the pipe? Edit: I just noticed that you cheated by stopping the fmv too early, so it's not really 1.5 seconds faster. Edit 2: It's actually only about 24 frames faster. Edit 3: I just noticed that even with the stopping earlier, your video was only 47 frames faster. 30309 - 30262 = 47. After some testing, I've determined that my video could have been stopped at approximately 30285 (assuming I just as early as possible to get Mario higher up before stopping the fmv), which makes your video only 23 frames faster. You may have found some good ways to save time, but I think it could have been a little more accurate in some places, especially now that we have the 60 fps hack. I'm also pretty sure it's possible for the plant in 8-4 not to get in your way which might save another second or two.

I think Tokushin took a different door in his no-warps video and used a glitch to go through a wall, but I didn't know it was faster than the normal route. Edit: By the way, in case anyone didn't know this already, you need to type the link Sleepz posted into the address bar instead of clicking it since GameFAQs doesn't allow linking directly to the FAQs. Edit 2: I just remembered what he did. He entered the door just before the door normally entered, and since he was on the right side of the door, he was partially inside the wall when he went to the other side so he got pushed through the wall. I'm pretty sure that would be slower since you can run much faster than you get pushed through a wall. Is this what you did or did you come up with something else?

So when will NesVideo Agent start speed running NES games instead of just the forums?

See if you can get a good run on the NES version, and then submit it to TG and SDA. Edit: By the way, if you want to submit it to TG, don't forget that they ban the shortcut in Bowser's Castle that involves going through a wall. I'm not sure if SDA bans it also.

Do you know when the upcoming release will be released? I want to get started on a SMW speed run already.

Michael, are you still planning on submitting your SMB3 run to TG? I still need to find out if I'm allowed to record it with a digital camera. Since I'm too lazy to mail a tape, if VHS tapes are the only option then I won't be submitting any speed runs to TG.

They might, but there are other bad things that could happen besides that.

I don't think it's a good idea to distribute the videos on DVDs even if it's for free. I'm not sure why, but if something bad happens don't say I didn't warn you.

I'm still totally against this whole thing. Let's say some new movie gets released, and it starts playing in the movie theater. Then I go to the movie theater to watch the movie, and I sneak a movie camera in and record the whole movie. Then I open up my own movie theater and I play the movie in it, and I charge ten times as much as the other movie theater. I also advertise it much better, and much more people come to my movie theater than the other movie theater. Then I become a millionaire, while the person who worked so hard to make the movie gets almost nothing. Does that sound fair to you people?

I just tried using the rewind key while recording the movie and it didn't stop recording, but the movie got broken.

I just dowloaded the ZSNES from that page and I couldn't figure out how to get the re-recording to work. When I load a save state it just stops recording just like in version 1.36.

Of the two games, which would take less time for you to practice enough to do a good speed run?

I don't want any of my videos to be sold on ebay (or anywhere else). It's a bad idea and you shouldn't do it.

Are you going to make a new topic for every question your friend asks you? I think one topic for all of them would be enough. Anyway, I'll see if I can find out what the answer is. Edit: I can't seem to find this anywhere so I'll give up and stop looking and hopefully someone else will know.

Speaking of not missing any shots, sometimes I was forced to miss a shot in Mickey Mousecapade since both Mickey and Minnie would shoot a star at the same time. Since I wanted to kill or shoot as many things as possible, sometimes I would be forced to let one of the stars miss. Is there anything like that in Contra? Anyway, speaking of Mickey Mousecapade, did it look cool how I killed and shot so many things, or would it have looked better if I just walked passed all the stuff?

What??? You mean you're taking a break from ALttP? I was looking forward to seeing that. Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing what you did so far in DKC, so you should post that up.

I still don't see what's wrong with mathematically calculating which game is better. All you have to do is press some buttons on your calculator, press the equal button, and the words "ALttP is better than CT" will show up on the screen. Try it yourself if you don't believe me. *insert random smiley that this forum doesn't have*

You could always just have negative keys for a few rooms in level 9. If that doesn't work, maybe you could ask David Wonn to discover some crazy glitch that lets you bypass locked doors.
