I'm still trying to do a good no-save speed run, and today I got 11:29, but there's only one problem, I accidentally loaded. After all the save state assisted speed runs I've made, I have a habit of saving often, even though I was doing a no-save run. One of those times, when I was very close to the end of the game, I accidentally loaded instead of saving. When I finished the game, I opened the fmv, and I noticed that it had 3 re-records, which means that I must have also accidentally loaded some other time during the game, but I have no idea where. Even though this may not be considered a no-save run, at least I know I'm capable of a time around 11:30 without using save states.

Speaking of Mario Kart, I have a question for Arc. Why is Mario Kart 64 listed as [Super] Mario Kart 64?

And does anyone have any suggestions for what song to use? How about the Zelda theme song.

You should have chose a darknut fight instead of a wizzrobe fight. I also just thought of another really cool part of my SMB video. In part of 8-2, there was a sequence of very hard jumps.

The super tank doesn't give me any problems, though sometimes I die in bowser's castle. I've beaten the game without dying before, but not yet in a speed run. Edit: Actually, I just remembered that I did a speed run a long time ago on a real NES without dying that was around 14 minutes, but it's harder not to mess up when blasting through all the levels so fast.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying that Smokey's speed run wasn't done on a real console? Here's a quote from the rules page at SDA, which I assume would apply to Smokey's speed run: Emulators: We will NOT accept demos recorded on emulators There are still no Super Metroid speed runs that were made with an SNES re-recording emulator. I know Smokey also did some Super Metroid speed runs on ZSNES, but ZSNES doesn't have re-recording yet.

but not everyone uses the arrow keys for movements. I personally use A,S,W,D instead. Escape is still far away. It's best if you can choose what pause is so you aren't forced to use controls that you don't like. If you savestate before you pause there won't be any problems. Just load state after you resume. What if you pause and then switch save states?

It'd be interesting to know what your in-game remaining time units for each level were. :) I played the 12 levels in SMW using save states but without recording it. Here were my times. The last number is when I completed the level, the other numbers tell when I entered each door or pipe. Level Time YI2 360 YI3 258 YI4 277, 275 1IG 281, 245, 241 DP1 383, 368 DS1 279, 274, 258 DSH 387, 370, 340 SW1 290 SW2 260 SW3 192 SW4 271 FD 395, 387, 385, 374, 358

Shift is best because it's right next to the arrow keys, but you have to move your hands to press escape. How would a speed run look if the character stopped moving every time the person pressed pause?

I hope that whatever SNES re-recording emulators get released either have shift as the pause button or let you choose what button pause is. It's really annoying how ZSNES has escape as the pause button and you can't change it, so if they keep it like that it would make it much harder to make speed run videos.

Walking half-room length vs pushing the block an extra time. Actually it's a whole-room length, half to the left in one room and half to the right in the next room.

SMB: making a big backwards jump in 8-4 and then walljumping off the pipe. SMB2: throwing key, moving enemy, and double jumping over the big pit in 1-2 SMB3: going up the hill with the plants LoZ: clearing out a room of blue darknuts really fast Mickey Mousecapade: killing pegleg pete That's all I can think of right now. Edit: I forgot one: Lost Levels: walljump at the end of 5-1

It seems that a SNES rerecording emulator will be perfected and released soon enough. So why not start planning early? What SNES games would you like to see timeattacks be made of? Here's what I'm thinking of right now. You're missing the most important speed running snes game! Super Metroid! dear Bob, Super Metroid is already available. Thank you for playing, have a nice jolly good day! If by "timeattack" he meant a speed run made with an SNES rerecording emulator, then no, Super Metroid is not already available. Just like all the other speed runs that were done on a real console, plenty of time can still be shaved off of Smokey's Super Metroid speed run.

In level 9 in the room with lots of keeses, I think you could have gone up, left, and right, instead of left, up, and right. Edit: Why is the video length 29:17? Based on the number of frames, it should be 29:15.9, which would round to 29:16.

In level 3, do you have to kill the boss to beat the level, or did you just kill it for the bombs?

Oh no, I missed -a- word. x.x It isn't gonna kill him, jeez. Now let's try keeping on-topic, if we can. But it's about something Zelda related so every word is important. Anyway, I'm too lazy to look for it, but I think there was a topic about The Wind Waker speed runs on the ZHQ forums so you can look for it if you want.

I think some people have done speed runs for The Wind Waker, but I don't remember what their times were, I'll go see if I can find out. Edit: By the way, you might want to change the title of this topic before TSA gannon-bans you.

I don't think I'll ever come close to 11 minutes without save states. In just the first world alone I lose almost 10 seconds.

If you use my ideas from the other topic about site reforms, that would solve the problem of me (and other people) wanting to see videos that haven't been published yet. Sleepz could just upload the fmv to his movie collection page and then people could download it right away.

Yeah, everyone knows about the small and fiery trick. I think the glitches I mentioned are cooler.

Is there any site that describes those Zelda glitches? I once ran into a very strange one myself. Yes, this one: http://kontek.net/davidwonn/ By the way, what you found was Chris Houlihan's room.

The warping from 1-2 to 1-1 glitch in SMB2 is pretty cool. ALttP has some pretty cool glitches, like the one that completely messes up the whole skull dungeon and each room looks like a different room, and you can even get to a glitched room in the swamp palace by going through one of the doors. DKC has a pretty cool glitch that lets you split up the characters and it also leads to lots of side effects such as being able to take rambi into water levels.
