I also got 244 on another version of the game, but in the version I used for the speed run video, the fastest possible time is 243, so I got 242 instead to avoid the fireworks.

You can only play a movie with the emulator that you made it with. If you send your movies to Bisqwit and their good enough to be published he'll convert them to avi.

20 Levels is still a pretty long speed run. My Lost Levels speed run was only 12 levels. It may not be as long as my Zelda speed run but that took so long to make that I'm not looking forward to speed run that long.

It also depends how good the video is and which game it's. If there was an N64 emulator that had re-recording and someone made a perfect OoT speed run I wouldn't mind watching that, even though it would be about 5 hours long.

Another strange thing I noticed is that Mario runs faster uphill that downhill. Edit: Is there any way to spin jump in this game? Edit 2: Mario doesn't bounce high enough off of enemies.

I just downloaded this game, and you're right that it has weird physics. Mario goes much slower when he's jumping than when he's running. He also jump too high and runs too fast. Edit: Do you know if this game has a star road or not? If it doesn't then it's way too long for a speed run, but if it does, maybe I'll try it.

An 8 hour speed speed run would take an extremely long time to make.

When I said "hurry up" I meant spend more time on it, not make it faster. You can be sure it will be a very good speed run.

Ok, at least now I have a reason to hurry up and get it done instead of goofing off. You can expect it done within a few days, but if for some reason I don't have time, I'll be able to finish it next week because I'll have off from school.

Why is no one responding to this topic? Isn't everyone looking forward to seeing my Mickey Mousecapade speed run? It's gonna be the best speed run ever since it's a hard game with nonstop action. Anyway, the video length video length is up to 4:25 so far and I'm in the middle of level 3 (the woods). I'm looking forward to finishing the speed run so I can see the ending because this is one of the NES games I own and I played it sometimes when I was younger but I was never able to beat it. I don't know why Nintendo would make a game that's supposed to be for little kids so insanely hard (or maybe I just suck at the game).

If it only took 2 hours then what's the problem? For some games that are very long and hard it can take a total of over 24 hours, probably spread out over a couple of weeks, so be glad you weren't making a speed run like that. Losing 24 hours of work would be really upsetting. Anyway, if you don't want that to happen again in the future, I recommend stopping and then continuing at least once every half hour to make sure the fmv didn't get messed up.

I've been lazy for the past few days and I haven't been working on my video, but today I spent some more time on it and I finished level 2 (the ocean) and the video length is up to 3:32 (up to when the screen turns black). So far I think everything is perfect and there won't be any room for improvement.

I also have a rom that doesn't work with Yy's video, but I don't know which version it is. For Super Mario Bros., both Yy's video and my video work with the same rom. I think for that game the Japanese and US versions are identical. Edit: I noticed you don't know what rom version works for some of the movies so I'll try to find out some of them for you. Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers works with the (U) version and not the (E) version. Edit 2: Contra works with the (U) version. Edit 3: Gradius works with the (U) version, the (J) version, and the (E) version. Edit 4: Gremlins 2 does not work with any version. Edit 5: Castlevania works with the (U) (PRG1) version and not the (U) (PRG0) version or the (E) version.

Then you would have to play the gambling game another two times. That might be the fastest solution, but I'll probably still end up staring at the map for awhile trying to figure out something faster.

Actually, I just realized that my route won't work because you need the bait for level 7. I'll see if I can find some way to fix that. I'm not sure if what you suggested would be faster, so I'll have to think about also. Once I figure something out, I'll post a new route here.

What about the Rockman 5 video and the two Dr. Mario videos I sent you? Are you going to publish those or do you only publish videos if you know who the author is?

The Mario Kart message board is back up now so I'll post more details on the route I came up with by spending way too much time staring at the overworld map. The only thing left to do is to decide which keys to get in the levels. By the way, in addition to the places that I mention using Up+A in the overworld, there are also a few places you can use Up+A in the levels. You'll see that I have some pretty clever ideas of when and where to get items, and my route may be even more efficient than you thought. The only thing about this route that I don't like is that you have to do four levels with the first sword, but maybe that could be fixed by making good use of bombs to help the fights go faster. By the way, do you plan on making a new Zelda speed run using this or a similar route? I might eventually, but if I ever do it won't be for awhile. If you do make a Zelda speed run, be prepared to spend a lot of time optimizing all the fights. The fights in my video are very good, so even with a faster route, it might still be hard to beat it. First sword Level 3, raft Up+A 100 rubies from gambling game Blue candle Level 4, ladder Heart Container Level 1, bow Heart Container Level 2 White sword Level 5, whistle Whistle to level 3 100 rubies from tree Level 7 Arrows Bait Whistle to level 2 Level 8 Whistle to level 3 Magical sword Level 6 Whistle to level 1 Level 9, silver arrows

I don't have time now because I'm really tired and I'm gonna go to bed soon, but I'll post more details about my new route tomorrow. Everything works out fine, and you don't need to go out of the way at all to get to the gambling game.

Since I made my video, I've also been trying to think of a better route. I came up with a pretty good route and posted it on the Mario Kart message board, which is in maintenance mode now, so I can't access my post. When the Mario Kart message board goes back up I'll copy my new route and post it here. I haven't decided yet if I'll ever make a new Zelda speed run video. If I do, I probably will use Up+A in it. By the way, you said getting the magic key would be the fastest route for a human. TSA, who's best time is in the low 33s, said he doesn't get the magic key (or maybe he just isn't a human, after seeing his video for A Link to the Past I wouldn't doubt it, maybe TSA is really just a machine). Edit: Actually, even though I would need to wait for the Mario Kart message board to go back up to post all the details, I still remember the level order. The order I came up with is 3, 4, 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 6, 9.

Are you talking about TSA's OoT Deku Tree speed run? If so, that's for Nintendo 64, not playstation.

Why is there so much competition for Kung Fu, a game that I've never heard of until recently, but none for The Legend of Zelda, one of the most popular games ever? I'd like to see someone make a sub-30 minute speed run video (which I'm pretty sure is possible).

How about audio commentary? Then people could easily listen to it while watching the fast paced movie.

I can't think how to make that fit into the "purpose of these movies" topic.
Ok, so how about the resources section.
