Only one A press is required for 70 star, and it's in Fire Sea. Pretty sure there's no hyper speed or anything like that.

I haven't read the whole discussion but I will express my view. Speedrunners, in general, like to make rules that make a fun and interesting run. Minecraft is a pretty unconventional speedgame, but I'll use it as an example. There's an item dupe glitch that requires saving and quitting the game, and in some cases Alt-F4-ing out of the game entirely. This is used extensively whereas the in-game command system is banned. This is because, with commands, you can warp to the final boss and kill it by just typing. There is nothing fun or interesting about that. There is even a glitch that allows you enter the commands in a separate world, and upon loading a new world the commands are run automatically, so you can beat the game by doing absolutely nothing. But back to the dupe glitch. To beat the game you generally need about 10 ender pearls, and getting them is completely RNG based. So the dupe glitch transforms a run from 30 minutes of RNG to 10 minutes of movement - much more fun and interesting. Additionally, the All Achievements category is practically impossible to do in a timely manner without the glitch because of the 1000+ ore items you need.

Here's my WIP playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDHkWFKw5Hg&list=PLNXBRD8jAgUf684BVNYp8D99bQM319Nqt&index=1 There's a problem with the encode where screens don't fade out correctly. You can see this in part 4 at 0:09, 1:56, 2:41, 2:53, 6:56, and 7:35. Could the problem be caused because those are places I made savestates? Is there a way to fix it?

Wow, I just found a solution. Kind of odd that I solve it an hour after I post about it even though I've had the problem for months. In Control Config I just made a hotkey for UP LEFT, and it works fine.

I'm using Desmume 9.9. While the game is unpaused, I can move around in all 8 directions. When the game is paused, I can frame advance while pressing down, up, left, or right, or while pressing up and right, down and right, or down and left. The only thing I can't do is frame advance while pressing up and left. Just to clarify: I can hold the up and left keys while the game is paused, but as long as I do that the frame advance key does nothing. I have managed to get around this slowing down the emulator and inputting up and left while the emulator is unpaused (because this is the only way I can go diagonally up and left), but this method is not as accurate as I would like. Is there another solution to this problem? SOLUTION: In Control Config, I made a hotkey for UP LEFT.

I assumed that if you manipulated RNG to only hit swiggler, the fire flower would run out before you did decent damage. But I was wrong. I had another to speed up the Swiggler fight - lucky hits double the total damage done with fire flowers (I think). So instead of doing 58 damage with a fire flower, for example, it could do 116 with a lucky hit. Not quite sure if this is how it works, but if it does work like that, Swiggler could feasibly be defeated in 1 turn with 2 flowers, both lucky hits. If you're eligible for a lucky hit on a given enemy it'll be lucky no matter how many fireballs hit that enemy, so the RNG manipulation shouldn't be too difficult. The chance of a lucky hit with un-upgraded stache is roughly 1 in 50 I think. But either way, I realize the desert trip is definitely not worth it.

Gritzy desert early was thought to be useless (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLZVnCNTEig) but I think it is actually useful. In gritzy desert you can get bro items like ice flowers and pocket chomps that would speed up early bosses (like Swiggler, Kamek, and Sunnycide). It's possible to access the koopaseum without hammers/spinning/rolling, but the first room in the koopaseum after the cutscene requires the rolling ability to get through.
