I think mario paint would be fun if you see a really accurate full drawing of something that fills up the screen withing seconds. Still it would be just some kind of documentary.

Hmm what happened in the climbing room. I was just wondering if this game is hex edit friendly at al, becuase it may minorly improve the time if you get hit by a leever during a backwalk on the way to the Spirit Temple.

Thanks, although every time I open a .GMV file it just keeps saying "not a GENS movie file" despite the fact it obvious its a .GMV file.

Don't you have to pay for these advanced tools and what are they anyway. The advanced hex editors restrict you to what you can do. I just use a basic free hex editor. I tried examing some .M64 code and it completely blew my mind as to what that stuff meant and I have no idea as to how many bits are needed to store a frame of data as opposed to 3 on Gens.

I want to bring it up because it may prove invaluabe to someone whose hex-editing first time round becuase it took me a while to figure it out. No this is not a how to or how do I hex edit, this is a guide that would make hex editing a little easier. I think it would be useful if there was some chart showing what each of the symbols mean. 1. FF = No input 2. 00 = All buttons pressed (including all four direction keys) 3. FB = left arrow key 4. F7 = right arrow key 5. FD = down arrow key 6. Fe = Up arrow key 6. EF = A button 7. DF = B button 8. BF = C button 9. 7F = Start I won't cover X,Y and Z buttons since there rarely used in Tases I don't personally know what combinations such as A+B are but figuring out a direction and button should be easy such as A+Right which is E7. Please add on folks I know there is a farely vague hex editing guide but it only says what FF is. For folks who've never hex edited before tell me if you think/found this mildly useful. I'll figure out button combinations later unless any of you know. One slighty embarassing thing I have to ask is how do you locate a specific frame in a movie via a hex editor, and to all you pros please don't flame me for bringing up this topic.

Its very easy to get hurt twice in a row by a leever, but none the less it should still be tested to see if getting hurt by the skulltula and leaving 0.5 hearts during the warping sequence it shouldn't be too hard to test since Guano can just make another copy of the movie and test and test different movie file. Still I think its reasonable to argue that he should already have had half a heart left before he got the bombchu's and there is plenty of places to take damage before he even got there. 1. Dieing armos. 2. Green Skull. 3. Fire in Diamond room after slingshot room. If I'm being honest I'd say redo it till you have half a heart left before collecting the bombchu's. Also Guano, have you ever tested to see if slingshotting the skulltula is faster when climbing that wall in the bombchu room?

I don't mean to sound anxious but what are the judges stance at the moment, so far only Truncated has come forward and I was interested in what he was saying. But his improvemetns were based on stylistic changes and not actually improving the running time.

Just wondering Nitsuja, did you ever experment to see if Left+Right was quicker at any point in the game. I don't if left+right has a generic affect across all sonic games. Maybe not this run but certainly it might of saved time in SA2, because left+right in Sonic 1 on Gens causes sonic to come to a much quicker halt than a skid does, plus it halfs his speed in a single frame during running air animation. Just wondering...

Question: Do I get the Bomb Bag in Dodongo's Cavern rather than in the Bombchu Bowling game for the Bottle Adventure?
Yes you do get it because its needed to skip King Zora, and for various other tricks. Its also needed in Ganon's Tower to defeat all the enemies since you won't have a sword on you, plus your going to need in excess of about 50 bombs, so you'll need refills. We'll still need the bottle to deflect the thunderbolt back to Ganondorf and to do the bottle adventure , so you get it from the Ranch by doing the cucco game which is either done after talking to Zelda or after completing Jabu.

What about Animal Crossing, I think there is a japenese N64 game of it. All it would be is constantly changing the ingame clock and date and spending endless re-records trying to manipulate luck late on, plus the game would take about 30 at least to obtain every item in the game and pay off the dept, plus you would have to set up other simultanous games so you can get certain items or events to happen like upgrading Nook's store. I wouldn't be surprised if anyone considers doing that.

Yay finally watched it although the game lagged like hell that it actually hurt my head so I had to sit 6-7 metres away from the screen which made critizing anything literally impossible. I don't have to look at the re-record rate to realize that there is a lot of work that went into this movie. Although the one thing I did like was not having an annoying score counter beebing away, but on another note all this soft reseting didn't really make it seem like a smooth run through, but if thats what it takes to get to the end sequence quickly then it must be done. I don't know why this game lagged so much espeacially since my computer is 512 DDR (and you know all the specs that'll go with that) , with one of the most up to date graphics cards around. As a sit through it wasn't enjoyable because of the emu and rom issues as an execution was next to flawless and I know how frustrating Sonic can be and none more so than GBA sonic. Although the one question I have to ask is how many re-records will Sonic Adventure 1 or DX take to do? Since I think thats the hardest game around that could be potenially TASed. Voting yes of course because it would be selfish not to. EDIT: I did have the emu set to the lowest resolution.

As far as I see it, you want to go outside Termina to A: Get rid of the long opening sequence as Normal Link B: Collect ruppee's this is'll very quick as you can manpulate lots of blue rupees and triplet green C: To buy the bombag as a Deku Early on, it'll be trivial to get the bombs from the grass as Link On a side note when you cut the long grass in MM or OoT what comes out is manipulated on the frame the grass is cut and not the frame you enter the area, unlike the enemy postions which is kinda obvoius. EDIT: I really think a game like this needs a testrun done first. I'd be willing to do bits of it just not the whole game, because time and day have such a huge factor on the game.

Two questions 1. How is that super high jump off certain enemies happening 2. Some of the swimming didn't seem optimal especially the section in 8-4 since visually it looked like you could of easilly have swimmed past it earlier. Incase anyonw was wondering I did vote yes, because witnessing a warpless TAS on lost levels is the only 2D mario game I've ever wanted to see. EDIT: Where are these mystery no votes coming from I'm convinced its the same person whose doing it.

OK then 1. Backwalking is fastest movement, sidehops are used to alter path. 2. I don't know what you mean, but no. 3. I didn't see what was wrong with the shop, you can talk to shopkeeper midway through a roll. Backwalking isn't usually possible in pre-rendered area's 4. Groundjump, no way hozae, it would take GJ X10 to reach the ledge. Hovering over him would probally save about 5 mins. 5. You can't grab a bombchu while its on the run so no. 6. Yes its possible and it only requires bombs and hoverboots. I discovered how to do that a long time ago. Check Pyrothps video. Would you class what I said as flaming style answers?

There is a WR for Pac Man in the Guiness Book of Records somewhere (and for Donkey Kong as well) . It says that the game crashes eventually.

AKA: for the Bottle Adventure, in your route, you forgot to mention planting the bean at Lake Hyrule after Jabu.
Ah I already thought of a way round this, you just play the scarecrow song as a child and then get it from the scarecrow as an adult and then hookshot up to the fishing game. Then again we need to test time gained and wasted from doing each strategy. EDIT: OK not a lot to fault although was falling into the water the best thing when backwalking saria.

Anyone who thinks its possible has obviously never tried it. I think body builders have tried it but failed. Although its hard to say whether its theoretically possible since the force is being equally spread throughout the egg. I thought I might just say that since the topic seems so random. _ |--- - - - - - -|+ _ | --- - - - - -|+ _ | --- - - - - - -| + Sorry its quite hard to draw with html text, but try to work out what I demonstrating.

What did you re-do or was it just a minor hex-edit. I'll watch again and hope this doesn't desync like last time since unlike some other people I never vote until I watched the movie in full. EDIT: After a long search I couldn't find the right rom, which is what caused the desync before, and the site which I could always rely on which'll remain nameless no longer gives direct links through legal issuses, so I guess I'm sunk. Damm its hard to find GBA roms.

There is too many implications to what should and shouldn't be skipped and in what order, I don't personally know the dungeon tactics, it'll be interesting since there more tricks compared to OoT. I don't think its really worth skipping the Goron mask or Lullaby, it would make it more interesting though. The route I've thought of as an overview is this 1. Snowhead;get mask . 2. Great Bay; get mask and hookshot. 3. Deku Swamp; complete area. 4. Romani Ranch; get bottle. 5. Great Bay; complete area. 6. Snowhead; complete area. 7. Ikana; complete area with madness like sequence breaks. 8. Head to clock tower and enter it early using levatation trick.
