How do people dump roms from cartridge based media onto their computer. I know it's straightforward when it comes to CD's or an SD card, but it's not so obvious when it comes to an NES or N64 game.

So you just need an interrupt like a Navi speech to glitch through there?

I thought the castle was made up of three entirely separate areas. However, I do know from my own programming experience that it's sometimes better to have objects and area's loaded way off-screen, then move and manipulate them on screen once the player achieves certain conditions.

I thought the entire area behind the barrier was supposed to be an infinite knock back area.

You are also equivocating two completely different meanings of the word "religion" (probably on purpose): The literal meaning and the figurative meaning.
Let's look at the the definition of religion and an atheist.
Atheist - a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods.
Religion - the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
Given the two definitions, I don't see how I could be accused of making a false equivalency.

While atheists claim to be atheists. Don't many of them still treat other aspects of life as if it were religion? Whether it be money, the state or celebrities.

Not again.. I feel like posting a rant. And so I ask myself: Would it really be such a loss if Nintendo wen't out of business? It's pretty obvious that they will never change. They're still the best game publisher, no one even comes close in giving you so much quality software, but they are still going downhill. How is that even possible with so many ridiculously marketable franchises? If it would actually happen that Nintendo wen't out of business, other companies would pay EVERY price to get just one of them. So it would be very likely, that we would still see all the games we want, maybe even better than now. Oh and of course, copyright law is broken and so on, everyone knows it, nothing ever changes..
You're ignoring the fact that just about every software company in Japan is struggling, and I can accept the gaming industry in general is in a downturn for a number of reasons. There is next to no chance of Sony releasing another console and a 50/50 chance of Microsoft doing so. Many of the companies in Japan are big trouble due to the younger generations disapproval of the culture imposed on them by companies like Sony and Konami. On top of that there is a culture where people are given executive positions based on seniority and not on merit.

Sakura was definitely the highlight. I'm not surprised by the nature of the RNG, it's exactly how I expected it to work. I think it would have been better to fight Devilot. Even though it might be the same as Akuma, because it would make the rounds previous to it more exciting.

Nintendo is becoming more like a copyright cartel in recent years, which overall has a negative effect on the community. However, I think it hurts Nintendo themselves, because it means people can't find out about their current, upcoming and existing games.

Isn't that, just another way of saying "I took the time to verify it". It really bothers how often I download a rom from an established site and it turns out to be a bad dump. It infuriated me to the point where I actually made my own and tried to submit them, but no reply. After you've made your own dump, is there any way to verify it beyond playing it for a couple of mins on a emulator or console?

The fact that we make TASes is itself arbitrary, whether we choose to aim for speed, or anything else using precision tools
Aiming for the fastest possible time is never arbitrary.

The category is too arbitrary and doesn't differ much from the current existing any%. On top of that, much of the game play is sub-optimal.

Why can't we all just work together like with the 120 star, this is so silly. Reminds me of those very old SDA days.
Because the SM64 community is full of possessive dicks lol, not going to name anyone though
If you're referring to the situation between me and Zomg all these years ago. It was because him and SS were being pricks towards me and SL. While they were improving SL's TAS.

Here's a decent start. Anti-piracy stuff also gets a lot of online attention anyway, so Googling should help as well. The bigger problem is actually triggering anti-piracy measures via emulation, if that's what you're going for. You might have to look around for Gameshark/Action Replay codes specifically made to trigger anti-piracy measures. That's probably your best bet. A bad ROM dump or an ancient emulator (or both!) might do it without the need of outside modification.
Panzer Dragoon Saga has an anti-piracy measure in that. If it detects a modifying cartridge. It will play through the opening cutscene, then reset the game and return to the splash screen. This was a cheap way to stop people playing imports, which are considerably cheaper than buying an English copy of the game. However, there is a way round it with an Action Replay code.

Makes me wish we had Smashboards' forum style, then we'd be able to 'like' posts. Besides that, feos, how are you going to be able to upload WIPs without the internet? Hmmm?
Fair enough on most parts of the forum, with exception to completed movies section. Too prone to vote downs on people who don't vote yes and vice versa.

There is a couple of observable facts 1. The Bomb-Omb explodes directly underneath. 2. At the same time Mario collides with the wall at the lowest possible point before landing.

Really depends on what type of game you're doing and the length and complexity of them. I wanted to do one TAS, but could never get it off the ground due to the amount of planning and research required. Generally, I will choose to get to a specific point by the end of a session. Whether it be a level or trying to pull off some kind of glitch/trick/difficult maneuver. Any game you TAS you absolutely have to enjoy doing. Unless it's some kind of short simple NES game, then your motivation to finish will get killed before you can finish, or if will just take months and some cases years on end. However, really loving the game is no guarantee you'll get it done, which I learned to my detriment with OoT. Given that every time a new discovery or optimization was found. We would go back and implement it. Then start throwing in having to stall for months on end for varying reasons, and it just ended up killing my motivation for TASing in general.

Reminder that them not submitting to TASVideos is nothing new, and they aren't obligated to share anything. Be glad there is at least a YouTube video. Very well done TAS I must say. :) EDIT: Also I think this is console sub 5?
It's not, NTSC frame rate is 59.85fps, while Mupen is perfect 60. On top of that there is likely to be more lag on console. I'd estimate the final time would be 5:00.97

They did it. Mupen sub 5,
Without a replay file, the video is only hearsay. I could make an encode that shaves time off of that with minimal effort and it would be equally unverifiable. As of this post, no record exists below 05:02.25.
True, without the reply file this is not verified. But hearsay is hardly accurate either. Firstly it was uploaded by Snark, a known TASer, and you can view the videos of the big BiTFS skip that presumably got this made. Thirdly you have footage you can look at for evidence of splicing, hacking, speeding up or however you think he could cheat. It's not verified, but there's a number of reasons to think it's probably true.[/i][/list]
A well edited video can fool anyone. However, you can't fool someone if there own game is being played right in front of them. Especially, when they can analyze your inputs on a frame by frame level and watch memory addresses.

If you're going to switch the camera angle, it would surely be best to do it during a pause blj. Especially earlier on, given it would allow for a lot of stylistic choices throughout the run.
