None of this has surprised me, but I think new people will come along and do these modern game, and could lead them to unexpectedly improving runs of older games. People in general, are better are TASing, which leads to them taking longer to complete movies. This is further compelled by the fact that newer games tend to be longer and more complex. Hence fewer submissions overall.
This game has a lot more depth to it compared to the original. Will we need a separate category for every character? I would have thought Captain Falcon would been the fastest character to beat the game with.
I had a look at that exert on YT yesterday, and I noticed that their experiment is flawed, because they should be weighing themselves, and not their overalls.
Will you be dryer if you walk or run in the rain, and what effects would the intensity and the angle of the rain falling have on this theory? Logic to me would suggest if the rain falling perfectly downwards then it would make no difference if you were to run or walk due to being hit by an increased volume of rain when running.
You should be showing the console verified version of the TAS, because of the timing differences. NES emulators emulate at 60fps, but NTSC plays at 59.94fps
An improvement was long overdue. It must have been a pain in the ass trying to optimize that new sliding technique. We've kind of seen the evolution of TASing over time with this game.
First we had slow down and save states
Second we had frame advance
Third we had memory values and lua scripting
Fourth we had ???
These are aesthetic choices. I would see TASing more like a big exam. No one ever gets full marks, but it doesn't mean perfection can't be achieved. However the correct answer for any given question can be worded, or hand written in many different ways.
My understanding of TASing is that it's more comparable to writing a book than playing a game, because of all the revisions you make in the form of re-records. Also note that the sites names the run creators in the same manner ("authors" instead of "players.")
All TASes have a defined ceiling where perfection is reached. A book however can never be perfect. Even though it may be judged as perfection by many.
Wow, that's insane. I never could have imagined these tricks.

I'm still far from South Pole, but I managed to make this work;

Potential sequence break in South Pole, but the bubbles were falling just pixels short of breaking the ice cubes at the start.
how-> break the first cube, clip a little into the left ledge, crouch and shoot.
I want to show it in the next wip, but the power walk is a really time consuming technique, so it will take a little while.
I'm not surprised its possible. BTW, are you are aware of the trick to beat the last boss faster? I found the video, but the video appears to be unavailable. The guy who found it was bombman. I'm well aware of the U+D trick on the ladders, but it appeared to be useless.
EDIT: Watched it back, and just realised it desyncs at around frame 6200 for me.
I don't approve of the dodgy power on state manipulation method being used to gain access to the last 2 levels. I'd rather see a run which uses the bug fixed version to complete all 6 levels.
I think there is a lot of room for improvement. There is too many occasions where you slam into a wall when it would be faster to slow down avoid it. I'm gonna have to vote no on this one.
I got 78, some of them I didn't know how to spell. most of them which ended with an "n" e.g. "Tajikistan" or "Liechtenstein". I'm a bit annoyed that Greenland wasn't recognized and the picky wording on "Bosnia and Herzegovina". Some of the obscure ones I've got have definitely been influenced by the news coverage over the last couple of years.
