I thought the Japanese version had stars that could be done faster because of glitches which weren't in the U version like the one in BBH and the star in JJB that usually requires the cannon.

True, but in order to become a viable candidate you must: * Raise millions of dollars to get your name out.
With the established media losing its influence and the rise in social media. I think this obstacle could be overcome.

US isn't technicaly a demoncracy. You just need to take a look at the Scandinavian countries to see why.

There is a difference between the masses saying "these people are all crooks/in for it for themselves" and "Thats it, I'm sick of it". Most people are happy to stick with the status quo atm.

The practical solution is to pick a country to move to when things get too bad here. Many Americans have done this. I'm going with Australia, mostly because they speak English and the weather is pretty decent. Canada is friendly and I'm sure Scandinavia and the UK are great but I just can't handle the winter.
So you're being defeatist?

There are a lot of people who think it would be a good idea though. Read about resource based economy. Also, in communism, one of the main goals is to abolish money, but no communist society ever got that far.
Communism is a good idea "in theory", but ultimately some people are more equal than others, and its unworkable. I would have thought the greatest failed social experiment of the 20th century would have taught you that. Capitalisms flaws are easy to see, but you would need to have a strong understanding of how economics work before I can even begin to dive into the solutions. Sadly, trying to implement them in reality would cause mass strikes/riots and would face too much resistance at all levels of society. Its going to take the mother of all economic crashes, far worse than 2008 before these ideas could ever be taken seriously.

Something that the president or whoever is in power should try to do is try to bring a permanent end to war, because war is too dangerous nowadays when we have nuclear weapons, so we continuously risk waking up in a post-apocalyptic world unless there is a permanent solution for war, like for instance abolishing money, because it seems like war is mostly just business: if people couldn't make billions by selling aircraft, tanks, weapons and stocks, war could probably be reduced by 80%. But there are a lot of other things that would have to be done too, like all nations uniting and agreeing to share everything on earth.
I can safely say they'll still be wars going on long after we're gone. Right now you are correct to assume they're about exploiting/protecting a countrys wealth i.e. oil, coal, gas, gold and diamonds. In the future its more likely to be about more basic things like water and farmland. Its one thing to preach idealistic views, but the sad truth is wars are all part of natural selection. However, it has brought various technologies to civilian life that are now largely taken for granted.

Other things that the presidents should do is end crime and poverty permanently worldwide. If poverty was eradicated, crime and war would automatically also decrease. Poverty could be eradicated by distributing all resources equally.
Again, idealistic views that are never going to happen. You can only contain and limit the problem. You can't erradicate them.

A year ago I would have said I couldn't see how Obama could get re-elected. Now I can't see how Romney can get elected.

Is that overworld music from Mario Galaxy? SM64 hacks have definitely got considerably better over the years, but they're still not publish worthy IMO.

Huh? I was under the impression that this site had a whole category for pacifist runs.
There is only a handful of games on this site that have categories for pacifist runs. Thats because only Rambo and Top Gun style games are generally suited to such an ironic category.

Pacifist goals are great for unassisted runs, but rarely translate well into TASes and this is no exception. The main reason for voting no is that it doesn't show any interesting strategies that haven't been shown in currently published TAS.

Don't see the point of doing a 100% run. I'd rather see a high score run on the MAME version. Even then I believe the Japanese version has a glitch which allows you to beat the kill screen.

Starts from a savestate for no good reason, sub-optimal and the sacrifices for entertainment were too extreme and not worth the pay off.

I noticed you didn't use going down right side of pipe glitch. Was that because you were unaware of the glitch?

Its in an old WIP I posted in this thread many years ago. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/731116392/Super%20Mario%20Bros.%203%20%28U%29%20%28PRG1%29%20%5B%21%5D.fcm If you can get the sub pixel positions to match at the end of each stage it should be possible to hex nearly all the input from the currently published movie. Essentially the current run is improved by completing 1-1 three frames slower. While this won't make much sense, it works out faster because you're avoiding the lag frame where the mushroom spawns. Meaning that the RNG isn't delayed. While time is going to be lost continually throughout the movie because of unfavourable RNG. Its made up for on the last level because the wait required to get the RNG to do the six hop Bowser routine is lengthy. Hence why I feel its pointless to improve the current run unless you can get to Bowsers Castle 17 frames faster.

There is already a hack which lets you play the 2 remaining levels. I believe all they had to do was change one line of code to fix the bad boss trigger. Anyway, if you're donating anything less than $60 to that scam then you're effectively paying for nothing.

Do you think it's possible that there is an improvement in the run of SMB3???
Yes, the current run is improvable by 1 frame. However, the run will look significantly worse as a result. Which is why I'm not doing it, and AFAIK is why no one else is doing it.

Anywho, what is your favorite sport in the Olympics so far (this goes to everyone).
I'll give my opinion on all the disciplines 1. Archery - Having tried it myself, I know how hard it is. However, it doesn't translate well into a spectator sport. I know the target is really far away (about 70m IIRC), but I wish it was further or played in windy areas to make getting a string of 10's feel more special. 2. Athletics - I think we can all agree that this is really what the olympics has always been about. I enjoy watching mid-distance running and high-jump the most. 3. Badminton - Used to play it a lot when I was younger. It is the fastest racket sport, but isn't completly broken as you can't really curve the shuttlecock. I find it hard to get into when you're not rooting for anyone. 4. Basketball - Couldn't care less about the sport, seems like it was put in as a sure way for the Americans to win gold every four years. Given that most of the players competing are already highly paid. It goes against the olympic spirit where winning a gold should be the Pinnacle of the respected sports persons career. However, I thinks its existence as an olympic sport is justified because its effectively the world cup of basketball. 5. Beach Volleyball - I've really tried to get into this for many years, but rallies are too uncompetitve especially in high level matches. They try to dress it up by sexualizing the sport and pumping out heavy tunes between points, but its not likely to convince me to watch it. 6. Boxing - Don't tend to watch earlier fights, but its one of the true olympic sports outside of athletics. 7. Canoe Slalom - I can appreciate the skill and training that goes into preparing for the event, but I rarely bat an eyelid at it. 8. Canoe Sprint - Isn't on till the middle of next week so I'll make my observations then 9. BMX - Ditto 10. Road Cycling - I actually enjoy watching this because it doesn't cost anything to spectate and like looking at the background and saying "Thats such and such", "I've been there before". 11. Track Cycling - I find this a mixed bag. I enjoyed watching elimination racing earlier today, but can't grasp whats going on in the duel sprint. 12. Diving - It takes an expert to know the difference between whats bad and exceptional. I wish I understood how all the juding criteria worked. 13. Equestrian - Dressage is hardcore :-D 14. Fencing - Sounds like a great sport in theory but fails miserably. No wonder the olympic comittee want to get rid of it. 15. Football - There is no reason for this to exist as an olympic even, for much the same reasons as basketball. Its purely a money spiner for the IOC. 16. Artistic Gymnastics - I've always been interested in this, but I'm starting to wonder if its begining to reach its limits in what gymnists can achieve. Like Cardboard alluded to earlier, there is a certain super human element that puts even competitors in other events to shame. Never mind people like us just watching it. 17. Rhythmic Gymnastics - Who cares 18. Trampoline Gymnastics - The height they achieve is scary, its like double what I can do in relation to my height. It seems to me whoever jumps the highest, thus have the most air time nearly always win. 19. Handball - Stupid and broken. 20. Hockey - Change the channel as soon as I see it. 21. Judo - Don't understand the rules, apart from body slam them to the floor FTW 22. Rowing - A sport the UK has generally been dominent at. However, its generally viewed as elitist because of the Oxford/Cambridge image it has. Its still an exciting sport to watch. 23. Sailing - Much the same as rowing, apart from its too drawn out. Don't usually watch it till the final races. 24. Shooting - Never gets much coverage. Has the same problems as archery 25. Synchronised Swimming - Never watch it, apart from the Russian routines 26. Table Tennis - I really enjoy playing it, but I wish the rallies were a bit longer. 10-15 years ago this sport was a joke to watch. Until they banned a lot of dodgy practices like speed glue; shielding ball on serve and applying spin on ball before serving. 27. Taekwando - I prefer this to judo as it has rules I can understand. Theres always a guilty pleasure in seeing someone getting kicked in the head. 28. Tennis - This shouldn't be an olympic sport. Only justified because its at Wimbledon this year. 29. Triathlon - Like a watered down version of Iron Man. 30. Volleyball - Now this is actually a respectable sport. Way better than the beach ball version. 31. Water Polo - Don't watch till the medal matches. 32. Weightlifting - Always enjoy watching it, espeacially the 105+kg class. Wish they would televise more of it. 33. Wrestling - Never seen it so can't comment.

The Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen is being strongly accused of doping. This is based off her 400m Medley race. What was unusual about the race was not the fact she was 16 and broke the world record by over a second, but how fast she swimmed during the last 100 and especially 50 meters of the race. It was actually faster than Lochte's time. After he achieved the second fastest time of all time. Not only that, her first 100 was faster than Phelp's time. Nothing has been proven by the anti doping agentcy so far. Here's is a more in depth analysis of her race

By the way, what I meant to say with my previous post above, and which I failed to express clearly, is that if you have a friend who talks for example about feeling lonely or depressed, especially if this has continued for some time, don't just shrug it off. Don't ignore the signs. Do something about it.
They are hotlines they can call in confidence which help with issues like that. Trying to talk it over with a friend or relative is usually pointless, because they'll often not take it seriously, be dismissive or maybe even laugh at it.

Having watched the previous movie only 2 days ago. I knew this was going to be something special. Watching this reminded me of the sense of joy I got from watching Nitsuja's Sonic 3 run back in 2006. However, I was initially worried I was going to watch another movie where we see two Max's endlessly bomb dropping everything in sight. Despite that, I knew there is no way a movie is going to get close to 20 minutes doing that for an entirety. So as I watch 1p mode being selected I think "what a let-down". I then pull a wry smile when I see Skate immediately dropping from the top of the screen. After he pulls off one of his trademark backflips. Both Max & Skate release unfathomable carnage onto the Streets of Rage. What I like about watching Max and Skate is that they both so different. Yet compliment each other very well. You have Skate using his Brazilian, Americanized style of fighting. Followed by Maxx's German efficiency. My favourite part of the movie was the level 5 boss fight. For the people on this board who generally don't like scrolling beat em ups. I would strongly urge you all to watch this movie, because if this doesn't change your mind nothing will.
