Ken does have the advantange of having the widest upper cut special in the game. However, the big problem I can see Ken having is Balrog. He can turn punch through his fireball and then barage him with punches (and biting).

Google always produces ads that relate to sites you've visited and searches you've made. For example I was browsing over hotel prices in a specific area the other day. I wasn't exactly surprised when a google ad comes up on TASvideos saying "Cheap hotel rooms in XXX". Looks like Flygon has been accessing Lesbian porn :-D

I suspect the GC version will be used in subsequent runs. Although this will make direct comparisions much more difficult.

Dhalsim, is too easilly countered by Ryu + Ken. Using low short kicks cancels out his low punches. The only thing Dhalsim can do in that situation is to drill kick which unfortunatly is countered by a dragon punch/hurricane kick. *Read title* Since chess computers are able to beat the very best in the world on a regular basis. Could it apply to competitive gaming? So far AI bots are either very bad because they can't adapt to human tactics, or they they cheat to a certain extent. I would have thought that either Balrog or a character with an upper cut special would be the best choice. Simply because Balrog can constantly rush and punch through fireballs and Sagat, Ryu and Ken could throw Fireballs from a distance and punish players who either get too close or jump towards them with a well timed uppercut. I will admit the cheapest strategy of all is just to take advantage of having frame perfect reflexes. Anyone got any opinions on this? There is also Super Smash Bros Melee, but I feel that game is too complicated for an AI bot to master.

You shouldn't be trying to make comparisions with the 3D you've seen at your local cinema. Everyone has pretty much universal agreement that 3D films have largely been ineffective in what they're trying to convey. 3D on the 3DS doesn't require 3D glasses and its actually pretty damn impressive. For most of the games I've played so far (yes I have played the games first hand) I fail to see how it enchances the gameplay, simply because I can easilly judge distances based on knowing how large an object is compared to its relative size on screen.

Dear Brushy What form of death, and what form of torture do you fear most? For example, I fear cave in while crawling through a claustrophobic tunnel and someone using a hot poker on me.

Fastest time would mean destroying everything before it even appears on screen. Also from a real time playing perpective the game is not as hard once you've memorized the enemy patterns. I'm not sure a playaround would be all that great given the relatively slow movement speed and small number of sprites. Not quite in the same league as Ikaruga or this game me thinks.

I don't find the run very exciting to watch because of the momotome pace and waiting periods during levels.

Its unlikely you could make a AI bot that could universally TAS every game. I'd assume there would have to be some programmed goals and assumptions about a particular game. Such as Mario moving right and holding down the B button and being able to observe memory addresses and understand the signifcance of each of them. Yes, its possible that some obsure glitch or time saver might get overlooked, but its possible that a well programmed AI bot could beat certain games with less input than what a human TASer could achieve.

Will this mean in future, we can playback the input on a console, capure it on DVD and then publish the .avi on the site?

With chess it becomes a lot harder (while chess programs have beaten world champions, there exist grandmasters who are specialists at beating computers, so the fight is more or less even right now). With go computers have currently no chance against humans (not even on small 9x9 boards, not to talk about the full 19x19 board).
Despite Chess computers beating the very best the world has to offer. It will probably be another 100 years before they can trully play perfectly. I've heard of *anti computer* tactics where humans will try and drag out a game as long as possible so the computer runs out of branches. Still it would be interesting to know if a perfect game results in a white win or a stalemate. In relation to TASing you could certainly create intelligent AI that could TAS NES games which only have 256 possible inputs per frame. Wii games on the other hand have several billion possible inputs per frame. Even when taking heuristics into account you'll still end up with a few million feasible possibilties in a single frame.

Nobody has yet mentioned combos, which became such an integral part of fighting games that a fighting game without them is almost unthinkable.
Wasn't that more of an accident than anything else. IIRC correctly MKII had an oversight that allowed characters to be hit in mid-air while they were falling, thus allowing skillful players to juggle there opponents and sometimes infinitly if they were trapped against a wall. I remember Virtua Fighter being an important inovation by making button bashing less effective by emphasing more on well timed attacks and predicting your opponent (at least at a high level).

It appears to finally have an actual release date of May 3rd this year Link to video As most of you well know its been 12 years in the making. Obviously they were really taking there time and making sure it was just right before releasing it. Actually, the thing that worries me is what happened to Heart of Darkness . It was 5 years overdue and ended up being a really dated when it came out. Needless to say it sold relatively well when it was eventually released. I expect DNF to sell well based on that fact.

I'm sure you all had great fun working on the run, but I don't know why you submitted it here. Unless your intention was for it to be featured in gruefood delight.

2010 was an exceptional year for NES runs. I can't see much that can compete with MM1 this year.
