Why can't people submit perfect movies? It would save the site so much time having to improve on them.

Wouldn't it have been better to use 2 players? The last level espeacially.

Sure, this run is pretty predictable in its content, but it makes one think what would happen if someone played a Deal or No Deal game like this in real life. Also, I like how the crowd responds negatively to you opening up "100.000"... "200.000"... when there are mostly just even bigger prices left. The surprise ending works as a nice ideological counterweight to this materialistic holiday season - if you got tool-assistance, you don't need no cash. Lastly, the music in this game is relaxing to listen. But I'll refrain from voting for now...
remember a game that went like that once... I don't know about anyone else, but I think it was a crazy good deal for a banker to offer. Take 17,5k or take a coin flip on 250k.

There is probably 299792458 frames per second, but even creatures who have infinitley faster reactions than us certainly couldn't operate at that.

Probably do mind/psychic based tricks which are impossible to do in real time like getting someone to shuffle a deck of cards and then guess each top decked card while blind folded. I could simply rewind back after someone has told me the correct information and then recite it back.

Much like Scepheo was saying, claiming copyright on complete/partial input files is just stupid. If I'm improving a tightly optimized run, I need to examine frame by frame what the previous author has done and I'm likely to be copying parts of their movie simply because it's best/most obvious method or I can't improve on it. The only issues I'd ever have is if someone took a video from the site or encoded their own movie from an input file. Claiming it as their own, or worse tried to make some kind of monetry gain from it.

Runs better than the current one should be accepted. It doesn't matter how slight the improvements are, or that it can be improved further. If improved runs are accepted then we will eventually end up with the fastest run. Right now with MM, and for a long time with OoT the fastest TAS on this page was really old and kinda crap tbh. speedrunners without toolassist had better times.
Not that I agree on the tone that Mr Grunz has used in his last few posts, but I feel that what he's said in relation to you has pretty much been confirmed. On another note, in relation to OoT. The reason it took so long (4 years), was due to a steady stream of discoveries and emulator issues that took place during that period. I feel the current run we have now was worth waiting for. Frame whoring as I feel you were suggesting, played at best a minor impact. Yes, there is still further and known improvements, and because of that I doubt even the next 2-3 OoT improvements will take anywhere near as long. However, you are unlikely to see 5 min+ improvements ever again.

I guess we better recall 7 of Michael Phelps gold medals, or 10 of the academy awards that Return of the King took. As they were only entited to win one award. To clarify, a TAS that wins multiple awards is usually the sign of something trully special.

what about some NON-shmup hardest bosses of all time?
I can only talk from limited experience but I remember Viewtiful Joe having some tough bosses and then there's Giga Bowser on very hard mode in SSBM.

It was a shame our team had some communication problems, because I think we would have worked well together. I will admit I'd be interested to know what games were being considered during the selection process as I didn't have any great enthusiasm for the game considering there was very little in the way of glitch/strategy potential. I just wish there wasn't so much secrecy over game selection, just for the sake of being afraid of giving any team the upper hand.

Wow, spectacular improvements. I wasn't expecting the mid-air rock jump at the end of level one.

The platform of choice should be PCE, no questions about it. Everybody is going to enter this contest with an unfair advantage at one of the "common" platforms.
everybody is demanding certain platforms or not other platforms.
So are you :P Obviously the emu must be stable and accessible for nearly everyone, but Snes9x is only emu I'd refuse to do a TAS on. Genesis has many hidden gems if people were prepared to search more deeply and NES almost certainly has games that haven't been done yet.
I agree that no contest member should know the game choice until it starts.
That I won't agree to. If I feel the game sucks too much and is unenjoyable then I certainly wouldn't want to do it. Aside I don't think there is harm in having a playaround in real time to aprove of the game beforehand.
And even better if the audience doesn't know until the contest is over :)
Would be ideal but since much of the communication will done over IRC, keeping the game under raps of all the gossip will be near impossible.

I can't see this replacing the Lost Levels run. A hack of the A-D worlds would be a fine replacement, but World 9 here just seems an afterthought. The swimming levels are terrible and remind me of the minus worlds in a bad way.

I wouldn't mind giving this a go so long as it's on GENS, FCEUX or VBA. Menace Beach anyone?

This submission has no doubt put the site at a very difficult spot, clearly it's sub optimal and filled with endless text, the other thing you should note is that it doesn't use the gold password to transfer max stats over from the previous game which would no doubt be a vast time saver late on. It would also be pretty cool to see how 260 random characters are inputed. The retreat glitch is a bit mehvote, but it's still good in terms of being a WTF glitch. I personally don't think it's justifyable to make it a seperate category given how long and boring the game is at times. On the other hand it's a well known epic game, that definitley inspires interest from within the speedrunning community (me included). So while publishing wouldn't be quite as bad as something on the scale of this. It might encourage a more speedy obseletion that there otherwise would have been.
