Since the universe question has been brought up, I'll answer a few more inevitable question. Aparently the universe ends in about 10 billion years time, but humans will probaly be extinct in a few hundred thousand years. The seas will rise bringing the earths total land surface to about a 1/3 of what it is now and because of the plate movements all the land massives will form one big super continent. Also its believed that there is many universes we just happen to be one of many and there constantly being born and dieing off.

If anyones interested I did a TAS of Master Quest up till the end of Jabu Jabu the strategies differ quite a lot from SL's WIP and might answer some pre concieved questions about the route now. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/320190289/AKA-OoT_MQ.m64 I used rice, but the run should sync on GLN and Direct64

That was as close as I was able to get the other day http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tJ7DL2JcZUc There is one frame where you can't jumpslash because thats the frame where Link lands. Link actually stands on a very narrow bit of land and then gets ejected because the area is too small to stand on.

One game I'm trying to find is on the Genesis. Its like Mega Man buts its not. Each level you complete gives you a new character with different abilties and attributes generally they get stronger but sometimes the earlier ones are more suited to certain levels. The levels are relativley short and linear and have a big boss at the end of each one.

The only problem with mini games both TAS and speedrunning wise is that you usually get a bunch of people who got the exact same score meaning often perfection is quite easily reached in a short space of time.

If the run is a short competive run then it would probally be acceptable, much like the obseleted short CT run. I feel the runner was wrong to personalise the main characters name. But in a long run it wouldn't be acceptable or would most likely make no difference.

You wouldn't be able to go straight to the ToT if the skip is made possible which at this moment is hard to say. You would need: 1. Bottle - From Kakariko 2. Ocarina - Probaly best to get this as YL 3. A way to get to the fishing pond as AL - Probaly by using bean 4. The bottle with the letter - So we can glitch a light arrow 5. A way to get the poachers saw - I think its best to glitch and play the RoS and go backwards through the wasteland and get caught at the gate. 6. A way to skip back past the DoT as AL - you could either reset or fall into the void until AL dies. I think it would be best to skip the odd mushroom in this instance since you have to goto the bother of getting explosives as a child in order to obtain them. Perhaps getting the sun song in the graveyard in order to speed up the hatching process might be better. This leaves another difficulty of being able to obtain the magic at DM, but you can use a tecktite hover in order to skip the boulders. Skipping the DoT would probaly save about 25 mins, So that would put projected completion at around about 1:15. Lets not get ahead of ourselves here, there is still some technical hitches in pulling this off but at least a solid theory exists.

The problem is that in order to get Link through the door, he has to be facing a certain angle; in particular, it is not a very steep angle, you still need to kinda bedirectly facing the door. I have gotten 3 different angles to work, none of them are inwards enough so that Link can catch the ground when he jumpslashes.
I'm pretty sure its more to do with Link's velocity angle other that his allignment with the door, as Yautja just pointed out there is a trick to make Link sidehop in a direction which isn't at right angles to where he's standing, but damm that method will be hard to test.

Cool run, but yet another prime example of a movie being published way too quickly.

Alright, you got me. I'm afraid I have to vote yes on super mario 64 0 star one last time. But no more after this, alright? Let's let this one stand for a while so other n64 games can get done.
I can assure you there is plenty other (big) N64 games in the works...

Didn't you say you improved the first Bowser battle? Also you forgot to mention you managed to grab his tail a few frames earlier when he does his swing but frames begin to be lost when you start swinging him. If you'd asked me how much improvement was possible, I would have said 2 maybe 3 seconds certainly nothing bordering on 5. My favourite part was when you did the tackle across the lava. I thought the start of the Bowser 2 battle was one of the signature parts in the last run, but you did something even cooler this time and with a further refinement. It was a damm shame that all those difficult to find improvements in BitS went to waste because of the bad lift positioning at the end :-( As for the most surprising improvement I'd have to say that its the strat you use in BitDW. I really don't have much in the way of improvements since you tested everything I could suggest and found stuff that I didn't think would be possible. Avoiding the slow BLJ in the basement is about the only potential (some noticable) improvement left, but like you mentioned to me you tried for hours on end without success. Anyway, super speacial awesome yes vote.

If the run is good relative to the game then there is no reason for SDA to reject it. Although beat em ups aren't accepted because its accepted that there likely to use repetive strategies which exploit a weakness in AI. The difficulty would come from finding verifiers.

People tend to encode there own videos now instead of editing out disclaimers in existing videos.

You don't need to go to any great length or have exact settings to make SM64 sync on your computer. Looking at your status you've made and have a published TAS on this site (Gb). All the emus on this site work in pretty much the same way in terms of loading a rom and playing back a movie.

After seeing all these graphs in this topic... I wouldn't mind seeing a graph of #of published movies for specific players vs time (they could be plotted in the same graph with different colors). Such a graph is probably most interesting if it contains data from people who have/had lots of movies, like walkerboh.
That might be interesting but it won't take into account, length, diifficulty and popularity of game.

GOOD POINTS
  • Unique game
  • This is famous on YouTube
  • There is a element on dodging stuff which other generic platformers don't have
BAD POINTS
  • Horribly slow to watch even at 300-400% speed
  • Hold right FTW
  • Levels are too long in relation to the game and mechanics
  • Doesn't choose the good ending which while a liittle slower it would have made the movie more interesting to watch as a whole
  • Not that it would make any difference (hint hint)
  • Seems a little bit unoptimized for my liking
  • Dreadful repetitive and dreary music
  • Hard to spot projectiles on the screen due to the conflicting nature of the colours on the screen
After a short long snap careful decision I decided it would be best to vote no. I nominate this screenshot BTW

Instead of grouping everything by console why not group everything by genre.

Here's a list of things I agree with from your post AKA: It largely sends out the wrong message of "this is what you should like". A lot of them are games pretty much anyone would choose to watch anyway, so its kind of just saying "duh". There is some really long and 100% runs, which goes against the main rule. Keeps the pace and doesn't exhaust the audience with length. No one is going to choose to watch these runs first regardless of how well known the game is. If you really want to attract newer people then you would need to showboard newer games. Don't think I need to elaborate obviously. I also agree that starred movies don't represent the site opinion in general.
Thank you Fabian, I glad you agree. I guess there is no reason to elaborate after all.

Sorry to be bringing this thread back from the dead again, but I'm not wanting to suggest any new movies, I'm here to question the star policy in general. Personally, I think its had its day. 3 years ago I can see how it would have been a great idea, but I think largely it sends out the wrong message of "this is what you should like". When the reality is that no one ultimatley wants to be told what they should/shouldn't like. Plus a lot of them are of games pretty much anyone would choose to watch anyway, so its kind of just saying 'duh'. Also there is some really long and 100% runs, which goes against the main rule. - Keeps the pace and doesn't exhaust the audience with length No one is gonna choose to watch these runs first regardless of how well known the game is. Even though it can be strongly argued by a veteran TASer or viewer that there most entertaining to watch. Just as an example I believe the Dark Castle run on SDA has more downloads than the Sonic 2 run, mainly because the Dark Castle run is only a few minutes long, despite it being a bad game. If you really want to attract newer people then you would need to showboat newer games, with that I mean games that aren't quite TASable yet. While 32 and 128-bit era games aren't quite TASable yet, I'm sure they wlll do sometime in the future. Also starred movies don't represent site opinion in general, only that of the administrator.
