AKA, in the video you posted if you were 1 frame more than when you went down the pipe would it count as 21 frames more?
You are indeed correct about 8-4, no such frame rule exists.

OK I managed to manipulate Bowser so Mario could run under him but it makes no difference time wise :(

I've tried many things for the last stretch of 8-4 and could only match it, the only way to beat it is to run under Bowser, but Mario can't quite get under Bowser, mainly because he moves backwards slightly and I don't think any form of manipulation is possible.

About the moat outside the castle I did some testing on it a very long time ago, (I beleve the date is stated on the upload) and either A this method is impossible B Mario can't gain enough speed. http://files.filefront.com/M64+theoryavi/;6392632;;/fileinfo.html

The level I was refering to was the end of 4-2 since I modded the level and was able to save 2 maybe 3 game units through simulating a glitch though the steps, also a while ago I did manage to get a four frame improvement in one place of 8-4 but it gets cancelled out by the annoying frame rule note: I'm refering to doing a backwards jump here.

AKA said something about the DDD trigger probably extending all the way around the BitFS entrance, however this is not true ... using hyperspeed it is indeed possible to make it past the trigger, which conveniently stops shortly before the entrance, here is a PJ64 savestate of Mario past the trigger. However it would take significantly more BLJs to achieve the kind of speed needed to bypass the trigger, but don't count out a 0 star run just yet.
Thats interesting, although as you said its nowhere near possible to get that much speed on the step to bypass the entrance zone.

Here's what I like to call a silent_slayers strat , I didn't bother to optimize and I know it could be significantly improved, but it may or may not work. Although from this test I was 65 frames slower about 2.17 seconds.

The general consensus on the site is that if a 1p movie exists and the subsequent 2p is slower then there should be two seperate catagories, sadly this doesn't apply here and I was generally bored throughout and everything seemed slower in general (not that its the fault of the technicalness of the author). This is a pretty straightforward no vote.

I'm actually quite surprised that I was able to notice the improvements.

As somewhat of a purist, I must say that imho the only two runs that should be accepted are the 1 star and 120 star runs (excluding CCCless, which is cool because it has a far-and-away different objective). To me, a 70 star run of any kind has no meaning. 70 stars is the amount required to beat the game without abusing it. However, since these runs are all TASes already, there is no way to define an abuseless run that still conforms to TAS quality - nor would such a run be desirable to make or watch. The other reason - which is probably better - is that a speedrun should go for game completion given concrete goals in the fastest time possible. So the fastest time to beat the game involves getting a single star. The fastest time to beat the game to full completion involves getting 120 stars. 70 stars is neither the fastest route nor a full completion. Trying to define categories for TASes that 'lack abuse' goes against their fundamental nature imho.
I've already made the defined catagory which is "don't use this specific generic glitch, but use whatever else neccessary to beat the game as quickly as possible".

I don't see why this shouldn't be publshed provided the ending gets changed, there is nothing paticuarly speacial about the current one anyway.

Just wondering, is it possible to glitch into the blocks like those seen at the end of 1-1. I've tried for ages and I keep getting ejected the wrong way :(

Insane. Have you guys tested out doing BLJ after falling through the top of the castle? I might be an idiot, but it seems like it might be easy to glitch something there since you are already in a gltiched up area. I hope to see a 0 star run, but I assume that will not happen.
Yes I have and it doesn't work, I don't think the water works by doing a surface like RARE N64 games tend to do.

Care to elaborate for me? I take it you were the "no" vote?
Fine, here; skipping the entire game without much fanfare or interesting bits (i.e. look at me, I'm in A, now I'm magically at B, whoopee) is boring and uninteresting. Hence, I hated this movie and voted it accordingly.
I know what you're trying to say but you must have known what you were about to watch before you saw it, getting from point A to point B is usually a big deal in certain circumstances like this. I would also say the Bowser stages are the most interesting parts of the game anyway.

Its simple just call it a bljless run and use any glitch apart from that and complete the game in the fastest time possible.
