This game actually has glitches, I tried it out and real time and it worked first time, I nominate hero_of_the_day for TASer of the year. (hopefully you'll know what I've voted)

Won't you lose Epona as soon as you enter the fishing pond, I know sometimes you can get Epona without having to play the song, but I think as soon as you enter a transtional area without Epona then you've automatically lost her. EDIT: YAY over 100,000 views now!

I don't know why your arguments are so narrowly JXQ based you aren't making sense to anyone but yourself.

IIRC from messing around on the arcade emus it seems the ghosts move about randomly until there actually in PAC MANS line of view view. I wouldn't object to see a fixed number of levels that are in a multiple of x^2 say 16,32.

How is that relevant? Also, since you couldn't know the tricks in questions, let me inform you that they look different, and the difference is visually noticeable. Also, if someone won't realize the frame-scale difference, does that mean everyone should produce suboptimal runs because of that?
Perhaps you didn't get the just of what I was trying to say, so I'll rephrase it for you. Is it right to shove it in someones face that you improved a jump or a minor section by four frames in a relativley complex and long game?

I'm a bit against using deaths like that to get a higher score. Just my two cents.

I'm not really sure about that route it sounds like a really excessive diversion to get certain things. I know you can get the odd mushroom as a child with just one bombchu (or was it with a bomb and bombchus). Didn't you say that you could steal the rod as a child just so you could get bombchus?, that would save quite a heavy diversion to Gerudo. Then again if you want to reach Gerudo with hoverboots or hookshot, then you can bomb hover but that takes way to much time and explosives to do so, my only suggestion is to get Epona via the Epona early trick, but really I think you're better getting the odd mushroom as a child. I know in Jaytheham it mentions you can enter the carpenters tent as a child but I've never been able to do this or is it a version specific bug? Lets break this down how does it save time Firstly getting to the Forest Temple would take an extra 3-4 mins starting form Goron City. Going through the Forest and beating the boss would take about 8-10 mins and the cutscene afterwards is about 5-6 mins long, but it avoids the very important light arrows cutscene which last for about 7 mins, but it wastes an extra min getting into Ganons castle becuase of all that seam climbing walking stuff etc. So if I average it out the diversion for the reverse BA would need to take less than 25 mins, I'll subtract the light arrows cutscene to give an overall diversion time of 18 mins. From my estimates I don't think it will save the time laughing gas earlier suggested. I reckon the optimal route with an optimalish execution will take an overall time of 1:54

Its a double edged sword I guess. Too quick and there is too many cutscenes or text, too long and it becomes excesive backwalking and movie length.

RCR has star potential no less than, say, Arkanoid or Gradius, but it has yet to be unfolded. Basically, it just needs a very stylish run, which the game has the means for.
Just outta curiosity (and I don't want to derail this thread too much), what would constitute a "stylish" run? Vatchern's run got shot down pretty hard, even though it was faster, because it apparently lacked the style that Sleepz' run had. I thought about taking a stab at this myself, but the reception of the last attempt wasn't received very well. This might be better suited to an RCR topic I guess, but I'm wondering what people would like to see if just a straight "speed"-run isn't good enough to obsolete the current one.
All the fuss over the submission was becuase of the fact the movie claimed to play for entertainment without mentioning anything to do with speed. Most people like me could only see the speed.

Is there any good reason why RCR is still starred, looking at the posts at the begging of the topic it seemed people thought it was a great idea, but times have changed drastically since. I think if a new entry gets a star then perhaps that would be a good reason to remove RCR.

This only applies to a popular and well contested game such as... Super Metroid. So just becuase I want to improve a sub cult game a.k.a Chuck Rock. Does that mean I have to tell everyone I'm working on an improvement and what improvements I've discovered?

I'm gonna vote "no" becuase a 16 course TT more than satisfies all the condictions needed for such a game, then again I'd be happy to see this published and then get obseleted by a full run.

Why this obsession with camera angles people? The issue has already been addressed, its just getting annoying now.

I don't think this would make a good TAS regardless of technical difficulties, the game has a very robotic with slowly automated features. This wouldn't look any different than a segmented run on SDA.

The run I felt was personally too short, i.e. the nature of the challenge selected didn't really allow for interesting situations to build up late into play. I can certainly spot that this is tool assitsted without the need to watch any real time WRs. Would the author consider doing the 5 min challenge instead? I'll hold back my vote until the author gives me more info as to why the 1 min is the best option for this game, since I don't want to see 2-3 different score attacks on this game. EDIT: Following the authors reply I'll vote yes in this case.

Since it seems to me that camera angles only affect entertainment and not speed (with the exception of lag)
This is probably still not true. For one thing, every time the camera turns while some direction is being held, the chance of losing frames is quite high because the analog stick must be rotated with extreme precision to keep Mario moving in a perfectly straight line. And if the number of angles Mario can move at is greater than the number of angles the game can recognize the control stick to be at (which I think is true), one way to take advantage of that extra precision as much as possible (to save a few frames here and there) is with perfect control of the camera. The fastest theoretically possible run may need to change the camera angle and distance and mode in very specific ways, numerous times, even where there is no lag. I'm not suggesting Rikku is or should be looking for such optimizations to that extent, but I doubt speed is completely unaffected by most camera-related decisions.
This game still has a long way to go until true optimimization is reached, it will require memory, speed, angle viewers much like the screenshot below, and even then its possible to cast reasonable doubt.

Incase anyone is curious, this is how to beat the game without L+R or U+D movement. This was done entirely in real time using only one re-record. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5181/Legend%20of%20Zelda%2C%20The%20%28U%29.smv It takes a while longer though, but it shows you how to do it on a console.

Boring as hell movie, but short and surprising way to finish a very well known game. Its an improvement none the less, and the differences were somewhat noticable might as well vote yes.

Same here, even though my configuration is the same as Mukki's. This is why I asked for a savestate.
Uploading a savestate is pointless, since it practically guaranteed to desync, so much like Comicalflop mentioned I always watch the WIPs from the begginging, which of course means feed back is often slow. EDIT: I'll have to make it clear to everyone during the submission process that they'll have to watch the entire movie once through since creating savestates is pointless.

It certainly looked great and much improved, I can tell by the desync at the end how hard this trick really is. Perservence will get you in the end, the rest of the game should become comparably easier once you've over come this. Completing the temple will more or less be the half way point.

It should be noted that its much faster to use the Japanese version of OoT and MM, yet the current runs are being done in the English version, even though there is French and German available, they both seem to be slower. I could accept a run where the language gets changed ingame to get a faster run, but I couldn't accept a different game version played in Japanese/other i.e. purley becuase of faster scrolling text. I would willingly accept it being used if it offers something different or useful gameplay wise.
