Although, come to think of it, even on the N64, MM's start menu came up much faster than OoT's
MM uses the expansion pack which explains everything.

Just wondering wouldn't it be better to ask users "Do you wish this rating to be made public Y/N?" Instead of having a generic question, then again after seeing certain ratings I'm tempted to march up to certain people and "why did you rate the movie in the way that you did?", but that attidude simply discourages people rating at all so its not to be encouraged on the forum.

I only wish I could read the text good run BTW, on a completely unrelated, when encoders are putting information in the middle of a run eg minus levels and Megaman. Could they allow the text to remain there for a while longer becuase it appears and dissapears way too suddenly for my liking.

So, for example, if there was a way to fix the camera so that it won't show almost anything except Mario's back, and the resulting run would be about 10 minutes faster than the published, according to this statement it'd be preferrable?
That would actually be more impressive if anything, since its kind of hard to TAS when you can't see what you're properly doing. If the giant zoom lens, got used at the start of a star all the way till Mario collects a star, would you complain if Mario was only a pixel in the distance? Momentary confusing or hard angles never hurt espeacially if they grab the viewers attention, before resorting to a more favourable angle.

Is anyone gonna do a DD3 two player run, that would cap off the DD NES series quite nicely.

Like I said in IRC, I'm gonna give this one a try, I could never understand how to play the game so I quickly got bored, I'll see what god makes off this game. EDIT: I eventually figured out how the game worked once you'd done the first 4-5 levels. I actually had a mess around once the playback had finished and it was suprisingly difficult, but I voting "meh" because every element about the game is overly repetive with no varitation in whats happening. I felt like I was watching documentry play rather than Tool-Assisted play.

A highly rated only proves that its a popular well known game, the Mario movies are among the highest rated on the site yet there often obseleted by surprising amounts. Although I will say that you only really notice mistakes when you get down to frame advance level. Personally I think it should be volutary to make ratings public, but perhaps mandatory to make votes public, or at least make people post before there vote is counted.

Don't you have to wait until the plant is 60% of the way down before you can enter a pipe. note: No bringing up the plant in the last level in SMB as an example

You didn't finish the game, since technically you don't enter your name on the high score screen, but after a brief chat on IRC its not a mandatory part of completion. About the game; my personal opinion is that its not boring, mainly because its short enough to keep my attention, but its simply not interesting and it doesn't look like you could pull off a Widget run either. I also have grave doubts about your claim of perfection, some of the boss battles were a bit meh and forward damage boosting looks like it would save time, but you very rarely choose to do it when it looks like it'll save time. I'm gonna vote 'no' on this because I don't think it could make publishable even if it is fully frame perfect.
In regards to getting hit more to save frames, i contemplated doing a test level to indeed check if it would save frames, but didnt want to make the run look too sloppy. Although during boss fights, if i needed to get hit id take the damage to save frames. From all the re-records that i went through, even though it appears he may gain a frame from getting hit, they were enough to make my insinct think differently
If damage boosting saves time then its not sloppy.

This is where the argument comes when the entertainment people seperate themselves from the speed people. To take a firm stance I'd prefer games to go for the fastest time while being entertaining without the sacrifice of speed.

I just know people are gonna complain about the run not having a giant zoom lens personally it doesn't matter, since most people should know the game well enough so that they don't get confused by unusual camera angles, the only thing I would consider remotely bad is overly changing/spastic camera angles which currently isn't the case.

I just played this game the other night. Can the last boss only be hit in the head? On the Master System version, Gary can sometimes be hit in the stomach. Anyways, nice run.
Gary can be hit in the head and the feet, on a console its acceptable to stand at the bottom-left corner of the screen and endlessly mash B, using his stomach to hit his feet, but the problem is that if you hit him four times in quick succession while hes on the left side of the screen then he'll slowly back off becoming invunerable. Hitting him in the stomach is both slow and hard becuase he pauses and then uses a punch which has a very big hit range. The tactic I used in the boss fight was to consectivley knock him back into the right side of the screen so that he imeadiatley always comes back for another try, although its simply ridiculous that he takes 20 hits to go down.

Anyone think its possible to break 9 mins? I'm not gonna make any stark predictions but I'd more than be happy if someone gets a sub 9 as part of an improvement, as well as that going for a perfect score/time might be the best option, although I didn't go for a high score all the time, since I decided to avoid certain things becuase it was harder to do. This is the replacement screenshot which meets all the standards that Bisqwit set in IRC. http://i11.tinypic.com/2hx3o6r.png

Why did the movie end so abrubtly? I'm pretty sure with some real heavy handed attempts a MK master could match it, or at least make it look identical, then again they might choose to jump over a wall and cut the lap in half, until that is found then this is a perfect lap.

I actually had a go at this about a month ago to see if I could improve it, but I gave up after the first level since I ended up spending nearly 3000 rerecords on the first level. The two main main reasons I thought I could improve it was because I knew the first level could be done a frame faster, and then I'd try get a mushroom/flower on the second but I came to the conclusion this was probally not going to work out. The other big potential improvement is the overworld castle in World 8, I thought if would be possible to use the invisible coin block to glitch through the wall and into the door on the other side, but after hours of trying I couldn't seem to get it to work.

If anyones interested I uploaded my fastest pre Deku Tree run to YouTube unassisted of course, I don't know any in existence which are faster. This was done about a year ago but it shows human litmitations of what can and can''t be achieved. EDIT: Unfortunatley I messed up somewhere when encoding so there is no sound.

Ironically the wisest answer to that question is IDK.

AlttP has fater scrolling text so you'd be able to get a faster run via that, also there is the Palace of the Four Swords that might be possible to glitch into with U+D.
